Chapter 23 - The Final Showdown (1/2)

Gabriel Agreste/Hawkmoth P.O.V.

I stepped through the halls of the palace, the intent to murder coursing through my veins and clouding my mind. My feet were quick and light as I searched and searched for the princess and her mother, and possibly her father if I have the chance. Butterflies surrounded me, without obstructing my vision, and every time a soldier or officer came to put an end to my plans, I moved my hands in a fashion so they'd loose sight of where I was.

Upon reaching another corner, a woman in a black and red suit stood next to a man in a black cat suit. The girl was spinning a yo-yo that she held ever so tightly in her fist, while the man twirled a silver baton in his.

Ah, yes. My sworn enemies, Ladybug and Chat Noir.

They stood there, positioned carefully, as if they'd been waiting for me to appear around the corner. The lower corners of my mouth turned down into a frown and my eyebrows furrowed in anger.

The two heroes stared at the monster before them, thoughtfully. Although, they both had different ideas of the situation and had a separate hesitation level than the other.

Our heroic black cat was filled with fear and confusion, though he couldn't name it himself. To be honest, who could blame him? The poor boy just found out his father was the man who had been hurting many innocent lives as Hawkmoth.

On the other hand, the brave and powerful Ladybug was full of discontentment, fear, and confusion as well. Of course, she had it a bit worse than Chat, due to the fact that this very man had full intent to kill her. But then again, the idea of her true love's father being a man who could very well be the one person she hates the most gave her a reason.

Anyway, before anyone could make the first move, Hawkmoth whispered something only Chat Noir could hear:

"Looks like the royal family won't be the only ones to die tonight."

Chat Noir felt tears form in his eyes, but they weren't from sadness, they came from only two emotions: anger and fear. Then, Ladybug began the fight that would truly go down in history.

She began to run, moving her feet at the speed of sound. The two heroes and their enemy were a good two hundred yards away, but Ladybug had reached him in a good five seconds. Maybe it was the anger she felt from head to toe, or maybe she was too afraid of what he would do.

Gabriel knit his eyebrows as tight as he could and let off a small smirk. His eyes sparked a fire that Ladybug immediately noticed, and he waved his hand in a downward motion. A swarm of white butterflies flew in front of him, creating a sort of shield.

On her own accord of course, Ladybug thought she could easily burst through the thin wall of insects, but was quickly mistaken. When she jumped, attempting to pass through the butterflies, she was blocked off by what felt like a wall of bricks.

How could this be? She thought angrily to herself, standing up, They're just butterflies. Not a cement wall.

"Nooroo, transform me!" A loud, deep voice echoed from behind the layer of bugs, and a bright purple flash of light temporarily blinded both the bug and the cat.

Before anything else, Chat Noir ran over to where Ladybug was backing up in fear. The boy followed her terrified gaze to the man they had known as Hawkmoth. Obviously, the butterflies had now dispersed, revealing the terrible villain. A curse escaped Ladybug's lips as she continued to stare intensely at her killer.

Chat Noir's head was full of emotions, one had been pure hate, and the other was a mix of fear and hesitation. If you want to ask yourself why, think of your parent or guardian. Imagine you knowing them to be the loving, caring people that would do anything to keep you safe and happy, until one day it turns out they're trying to kill your significant other. Pretty crazy, huh?

Ladybug quickly noticed that her partner was out of it, and placed her hand on his shoulder, "Listen, Chat. I know we've gone through our challenges and temporary losses, but today we can do it. Don't doubt yourself. I believe in you."

The cat looked at the bug with pure love and devotion, and her words had almost brought him back to where he needed to be. Well, close enough at least.

If his Lady believed in him, it was enough to keep him going.

"Alright, Marinette. Let's do it," Chat Noir said, a soft smile on his lips, then immediately slapped his hand over his mouth. His partner's eyes went wide and her jaw dropped slightly.

"What did you just call me?" She asked, frozen in place. Let's not forget the villain they're supposed to beat was still there, and planning his first move.

"N-Nothing, Mari-I mean Ladybug!" The poor boy yelled, sweat dripping down to his cheekbone. "Let's just focus on the fight please..."

His voice trailed off, and he quickly turned around to where his father stood, hands on his scepter. White butterflies continued to surround him, only this time there were more. Everything on his head except for his mouth was covered by a silver pleather/spandex fabric, which would have been a great disguise if the two heroes didn't already know who he was.

Ladybug slowly turned to face her enemy as well, but now her head was also somewhere else. If it weren't for Chat's silly actions, she would be more than ready to beat this murder to a pulp. Now it was her and her crazy thoughts, no longer the fight.

"Well, well, well. Looks like the real fight is about to begin huh?" Hawkmoth grinned, the evil and anger easily plastered across his face. The black eyeliner around his eyes made them seem more full of wicked contempt and hatred than before.

"It already has," Ladybug said through gritted teeth, and took off running toward her assassin, Chat Noir trailing closely behind her.
