First day...

Song's chapter: Happy by Pharrell :)

My excitement for being at the beach evaporated through the night. Just as my body's water reserves.

Not having air conditioning sucked. I woke up sweating and thirsty as hell.

Someone was knocking on my door and I clumsily dragged myself out of bed to open it. Blinking hard, I found myself in front of a fresh Sol. She was in her uniform and looking completely well-rested. Her hair was in a half up-half down mode. You know, she was just the opposite of me.

"Buenos días!" She grinned as I rubbed my face with the back of my palm.

"Hi..." sleeping deprived meant that I would probably act out like a zombie half morning.

"Should we wake Jason up?" She glanced embarrassed at his door.

I snorted. The guy was probably up and all dressed up already.

Sol's brown eyes widened as she murmured, "never mind..."

Frowning, I turned around to see what she meant.

Oh my God...

Jason was walking up to us. In a swimsuit. Pretty much naked. Showing a glorious six pack on his abdomen and quite muscular and strong arms. His hair was pretty damp as a few drops of water were rolling down his awesome body.

My mouth hit the floor as I gaped at him. Sol must have been mirroring me.

Jason's lips twitched as he reached us. "Buenos días, señoritas." He bobbed his head once. I followed the delicate trail a small droplet was drawing on his chest.

When I felt his burning stare on me, I blushed embarrassed after closing my mouth.

Bloody hell...

I blamed my lack of brain and speech functions to my sleep deprivation.

Jason's smirk was pretty evident and I was sure that his ego had just boosted a hundred per cent. I cleared my throat as he was still there watching us, completely pleased with himself. "Good morning." I said non-chalant as I thought about my state.

Cringing, I looked at Sol who was still pretty much eating him with her eyes.

Oh God. I must really look like a dead zombie after a bus ran over it repeatedly.

"Ok. So, I'll see you at breakfast," I avoided looking at Jason as I closed my door. I didn't even know if Sol had heard me or not. She did seem out of it.

Rushing myself, I grabbed a fresh pair of clothes and walked inside the small bathroom. Wincing at my outrageous state, I took a quick shower.

My aunt was probably going to give us a polo shirt or something. It seemed like the hotel's uniform. So I put on denim shorts, a white shirt and beige Toms before stepping out of the bathroom.

I pulled my long hair up. It was too hot to wear it down. I was starting to sweat already. I usually didn't wear a lot of makeup on the beach, so I settled on blush and pink gloss.

Everyone was already seated on the kitchen's wooden table as I walked in. A large plate of tropical fruits and freshly squeezed orange juice were waiting for me as I sat down. Greeting everyone, I dug in and ate all my food. Maria had also made quesadillas with blue tortillas. That was pretty awesome, since you never got blue corn in England. I avoided Jason at all costs but even so, I could totally feel his gaze on me and I could picture his big-ass smrik etched on his face.

After breakfast, aunt Patricia gave us both blue polo shirts. She led me to the side so the rest wouldn't hear her. "I made an arrangement with your parents," she voiced gravely, "so I'm keeping your salary checks. I'll deposit the amount on a bank account each week. But, I've decided to let you interact with the guests. If you are nice and helpful, they'll tip you," she smiled mischievously, "most of my employees make more out of tips than salary. And that's totally yours. Also, as long as you fulfill your chores, you can do whatever you like on your free time." She patted my arm, "I'm sure Jason will take care of you, so I'm not worried about that."

"Thank you..." I smiled somewhat relieved at her. It was great to hear that I could actually earn money to at least get an ice-cream on my own. Also, I thought I was to be confined at the hotel at all times. So, knowing that I could go out as pleased was encouraging as fresh.

I changed into the blue polo shirt and followed Sol around through out the morning. We changed the sheets of all the rooms as well as the towels. There was another woman who was in charge of cleaning. Her name was Lupita and she was really nice. I was glad I wasn't going to be cleaning bathrooms but I felt bad for Lupita and even asked her if she needed help. Which she denied a bit offended, by the way.

A bit muffled about it, I arranged the fruits as Sol had showed me. She had left to get new amenities as I walked out of the room and crashed into someone.

Strong hands held me by the arms. Looking up, I found myself looking into green eyes. A blond guy with chiseled features smiled at me. He was wearing a tight grey t-shirt and black shorts. On one of the belt loops, he had one of those weird things climbers use for the ropes. "You must be Ed..." I murmured taking a step back.

"The one and only. And you are?"

"Marianne. Im working here for the summer."

His lips tugged up widely, "just Marianne?"

I blinked at him. I didn't remember what last name my aunt had given me. "Yeah...just Marianne..." Trying to change the topic, I asked him, "you were leaving some brochures?"

He was cupping his chin, sort of intrigued by me. That kind of freaked me out. I didn't want to be getting attention from anyone. "I already left them on the front desk. So, just Marianne, I take if you're from England?"

I nodded. "Uhmm...Sol must be coming back now if you want to talk to her."

"That's all right. I'm fine talking to you."

Oh, well...damn...

"Everything alright?" Jason's deep voice sounded behind me. He placed his hand on the back of my waist and stepped really close behind me, full-on protection mode. Ed eyed him warily for a moment before reaching out his hand for him, "everything is cool, dude, we were talking, right, just Marianne?"

Ok. The whole mocking me for saying just Marianne was annoying the crap out of me.

Jason glanced at me with furrowed brows before shaking hands with Ed, "Jason."

Ed's green eyes looked at me, "let me guess, just Jason?" He raised an eyebrow.

Jason shrugged and added nonchalant, "it must be a Brit thing."

A small smile crept upon my face as I gazed at him for a moment. His hand pressed tighter against my back. It felt warm and kind of nice.

I did feel safe and protected around him. That is, if he wasn't scowling or reprimanding me. Which was most of the time...so I guessed that didn't count. It was just a momentary thing, then. Besides, Ed didn't seem like the dangerous kind. As I looked at him for another moment, I noticed that he was sort of cute, like Sol had told me.

Aunt Patricia walked out of her office looking giddy and excited. "The car service texted me. They'll be here in ten minutes at most." Sol was carrying a large basket with different amenities. I helped her out as my aunt added, "Jason, could you find Pablo to be ready at the front door?"

I smirked at him. He was so carrying luggage, now. I hope they have a heavier suitcase than me!

I must have been sporting a smugly expression on my face because he walked beside me and rolled his eyes playfully. "Good luck getting tips," he murmured winking at me. Ugh. I scowled at his retreating back and I could swear that I heard him chuckle from the distance.

Smart-ass.

"Oh, hi Ed! Could you at least look productive when the guests arrive?" Sol teased him as she organized some papers on the front desk.

He crossed his arms ignoring her. But his lips were twitching. I walked up to Sol and grabbed one of his brochures. "The stand up paddle seems really cool. Is it difficult?"

"Not reallly," his eyes raked me over, "I don't think you'll have a problem..."

The price on the paddle thingy was $25 usd. Damn. I had to earn those tips...

"I can give you a free class. That is, if your boyfriend doesn't mind," he leaned on the counter watching me curiosly.

I was still looking at the pictures on the brochure as I trailed nonchalantly, "he's not my boyfriend, just an overprotective friend..."

"Is that so?" Looking up, I found him closer than me. And his eyes were too intense. Awkwardly, I left the brochure on its place. "We should hang out sometime, there's a salsa place over town..."

A small smile played on my lips. "Thanks but I can't dance salsa. It seems too complicated."

"I can teach you."

Sol cleared her throat. "Ed, seriously, either you go or you help out."

Ed smiled at her while raising both palms mocking innocence. "I'm going, I'm going." His green eyes turned to me, "both offers stand if you're interested."

"Thanks..."

"I'll see you soon, girls!" He bobbed his head before walking away.

"Be careful with him. He's a total playboy." Sol murmured following him with her eyes.

I chuckled, "I could tell!"

She laughed with me. "Ready for the guests?"

"Totally. How hard could it be?" She raised an eyebrow at my confident smile.
