Chapter 6: First Date

Some time had passed after the Tourney game, and Demitri had started to become more distracted from the initial goal he and his friends were there for. Sure, the whole 'get the wand' thing was something he still thought about whenever someone else didn't remind him about it, but when he wasn't thinking about that, he was thinking about getting through his classes, or even learning about and improving his powers. But most recently, he's been thinking about Lonnie.

He couldn't exactly understand why, but there was just something about her that he felt drawn to. Maybe it was how she wasn't completely one of those stereotypical princess girls he was expecting from just about everyone in Auradon. Or it was that he did think she was pretty and enjoyed being around her. If he was really lucky, maybe it was because she didn't immediately try to avoid him or judge him based on who his father was or where he was from. His thoughts were interrupted by Misery, who noticed that he was deep in thought and wanted to make sure he was okay.

"Hey, Boss? You alright?" They ask.

"Hm? Yeah, I'm fine, Mis." Demitri responds.

"You sure. You seemed like you were thinking about something. If you don't want to talk about it, it's okay, but you know that you can talk to Rage or I about anything, right?"

"I know. It's just... complicated."

"Try me."

There is a pause from Demitri before he decides to speak again.

"You know that girl Lonnie, right?" He asks.

"Yeah. She seems pretty cool. What about her?"

"Well... I can't seem to stop thinking about her. I always enjoy spending time with her, and the thought of being able to see her every time we go to those classes... I like it."

"So, are you saying you think you like her?"

"I don't know. I haven't felt like this about anyone. I mean, maybe? I don't fully get it, and don't really know what to do."

"Well, I'm no expert or anything myself, but maybe you could try just hanging out with her and seeing what happens. Like just you two."

"Are you suggesting I ask her out on a date or something? I don't know anything about that, you know this."

"And you won't know if you don't even put in any effort. We've all learned so many new things since we got here, who's to say this will be any different. At least try it, Boss?"

"Okay, I get it. I'll... see what happens. And by the way, this talk stays between us for now, got it?"

"Yes. And you got this, Boss."

Feeling better with the imp's attempt at reassurance, Demitri quickly made sure he looked at least somewhat decent before heading out. It took him a while, but he eventually found Lonnie with a couple of other girls.

"Hey, Lonnie." He says, walking up to her.

"Oh, hey Demitri." She responds.

"Could I talk to you for a moment? Like just us?" He seemed a bit nervous at the idea of trying to ask her out in front of her friends, especially if she would end up rejecting him.

"Sure." The two then walk a short distance away, but still in the general area. "What's up?"

"Well, I was wondering if you wanted to hang out again sometime. Like, just you and me." He asks, doing his best to seem casual and interested, but hiding how nervous he was.

"Sure, that sounds fun! What did you have in mind?"

"Now that, I wish I knew for sure. I don't know what all there is to do around here, or what you'd like to do. Guess I should have thought about that more before I asked, huh?"

"It's alright. There's a really nice hiking trail around here and a clearing by the end of it. We could do that."

"Sounds great. I'll stop by your room tomorrow then and we can head out?"

"I'll see you then!"

Satisfied with the plan, Lonnie went back to her friends and Demitri returned to his room, immediately looking for what he should wear on the date. He wanted something nice, but not too nice since they would be outside. He settled on some dark blue jeans, a black tank top with a blue fire print, and his blue beanie with some black boots. Once he got all that picked out, he set the outfit aside and started planning what else to do.

Well, having snacks or drinks probably couldn't hurt to have, but he'd sneak back into the kitchens later at night to get all that prepared. At the least, he could make a list of what to bring, so he tore out a page from one of his notebooks and started writing things down. He really wanted to make sure he was doing this right. After looking things over and making sure everything was going to be ready. He finally took the rest of the day to relax.

The next day, Demitri got up, got dressed, and made sure he had everything he heeded before going to meet up with Lonnie. When he got to her room, he knocked on her door, and thankfully she was the one who answered. She was dressed in some blue athletic pants with the Auradon crest on them, athletic shoes, and a pink t-shirt with her hair tied back.

"Hey Dimitri." She greets with a smile.

"Hey. You look great." He responds.

"So do you. I see you brought stuff with you."

"Yeah. Figured we might need it. You ready to head out?"

"Ready. Let's go."

The two head out and make their way to the hiking trail. Most of the walk itself was the two of them pointing out anything interesting they saw and making small talk, but eventually they reached the clearing, and sat down to talk some more while eating some of the snacks Demitri had prepared the night before.

"So... you enjoying this so far?" Demitri asks.

"Yeah, this has been a lot of fun so far." Lonnie replies.

"That's good to hear." He laughs a bit, "I was worried I might mess things up. Especially since I've never done anything like this before."

"Really? That surprises me. Surely there would have been a few people on the Isle that would have been interested."

"Not really. It's not something we really do over there. The closest to that I'd say is when I got my piercings with Mal and Evie."

"So, were you ever together with either of them?" Lonnie asks.

"Nah." Demitri shakes his head. "Mal's like a little sister to me, and Evie's not my type. We're just friends."

"Okay. How long have you had those piercings, by the way? I can't imagine those were easy to get on the Isle."

"They weren't, but they were worth it. I got these first when I was about thirteen." He moves part of his hair back to show a bunch of rings along his ear before pointing to the two rings he had on his lower lip. "And I got these last year."

"They must have taken some getting used to."

"They did, but it didn't take that long."

"Are you wanting to get any more at some point?"

"I have at least two more I wanna get. First one is a pair of blue crystal studs on my ears, and the other one is a belly button ring."

"Well, I'm sure those will look nice." Lonnie was doing her best to not imagine what Demitri looked like shirtless.

"Thanks. Well, we've talked quite a bit about me. I wanna hear more about you. Things you like, what you wanna do, things like that. Or whatever you want to talk about."

"Well, I'm a little bit of an athletic type, but I don't really make it the only main thing about me. I still do a lot of normal girl things, but I also want to work on getting more girls into sports that they normally don't do."

"Wow, that sounds like that will be quite the challenge."

"It will be, but I like the challenge. It wouldn't be as fun if it was too easy, and it would have already been done."

"Well, I wish you luck on that, and I'll be looking forward to seeing it happen."

After a few more hours, the two headed back to their rooms, and the whole time, Demitri felt happier than he had ever been, looking forward to being able to do this again at some point.
