Chapter 4: First Classes

The next day, Demitri and the others got up and reluctantly got ready for their first day of classes at Auradon. Most of the guys just kept what they wore yesterday, but Demitri decided to change it up a bit. He now had a similar pair of dark jeans that were more distressed, his boots, jacket, and a black and blue striped shirt. Rage and Misery had their usual teal and magenta getups as well, and once everyone was ready, they met up with Mal and Evie before heading out.

Their first class of the day was Goodness 101 with Fairy Godmother, and of course they were the only students in it as they took their seats at each 2 person desk. Mal and Evie shared one, Jay and Carlos across from them, Rage and Misery in front of the boys, and Demitri in front of Mal and Evie.

"If someone hands you a crying baby, do you A: curse it? B: Lock it in a tower? C: Give it a bottle? Or D:Carve out its heart?" Fairy Godmother asks the group, who were each barely paying attention at best.

Evie raised her hand to answer, and was called on.

"What was the second one?" She asked.

"Oh, okay, anyone else?" Fairy Godmother asked the rest of the group. "Demitri?"

"You give them a bottle." He responds in a pretty deadpan tone. He genuinely didn't care one way or the other about these scenarios she was giving them, and had a feeling that she didn't want them to respond how they actually thought. So he just said what she wanted to hear.

"Correct. Again." Fairy Godmother says, seemingly proud of how well he is doing.

"You're really good at this, Boss." Misery says to him.

"Yeah, you're killing it." Carlos adds.

"He's just picking the ones that don't sound like any fun." Mal tells the group, who make mixed sounds in response.

Before the lesson could continue, a girl with short brown hair and a pale blue dress enters, who Fairy Godmother introduces as her daughter, Jane. The shy girl hands her mother an early dismissal form for Ben's upcoming coronation before quickly leaving. The lesson eventually resumed, this time with Jay and Carlos fighting on trying to answer, and Fairy Godmother sending them to try out for the sports teams after the lesson ended.

Later that day, Demitri was wandering around while waiting between classes when he accidentally ran into someone.

"Hey, watch it!/Ohmigosh I'm so sorry." Both he and the stranger said at the same time.

Taking notice of the person now standing in front of him, Demitri got a better idea of who it was he ran into. The female had short black hair and was wearing a teal miniskirt and a pink floral top with a magenta ribbon belt. She wasn't that bad looking, in fact, he thought she was kinda pretty.

"It's... fine I guess. No severe damage done." He later adds.

"Hey, you're one of the kids from the Isle right?" The girl asked.

"Yeah. I'm Demitri, and these are my imps. Rage and Misery."

The imps didn't say anything, but waved at the girl.

"Oh, well, hello. I'm Lonnie. Are you on your way to your next class?"

"Yeah. History." He responds

"That's where I'm headed too. Since we're both going that way, maybe we could walk there together? I'd love to hear about how you're enjoying Auradon so far."

"Sure, why not."

As they headed to the class, Lonnie asked Demitri all sorts of questions. How's he liking Auradon? How did he meet Rage and Misery? A lot of small things like that. He actually didn't mind talking to her. He was surprised at how much he actually enjoyed being around her. When they arrived at the classroom, they sat next to each other and worked on the lesson together. After that, they parted ways, and Demitri headed back to his room for a bit to relax and get a jump start on his homework. After some time, Jay knocked on the door wearing an athletic jersey.

"They let you join the team?" Demitri asked when he looked up.

"Yeah! How's it look?"

"Not bad, I guess. What's up?"

"Mal wants us to meet up."

"Alright."

Demitri stopped what he was doing and followed Jay to the girls's dorms. When they entered, Jay was showing off the new jersey while Demitri sat next to Mal on her bed, while Rage and Misery transformed into cats and curled up on Evie's bed.

"Did your plan work with Jane?" Jay asked, "Are you going over to see the wand?"

"Do you think that I would be going through every single spell in this book if I hadn't completely struck out?" Mal responds.

"That bad?" Demitri asked, "What even happened?"

"I used my magic to make Jane's hair prettier to use her to try and get us closer to the wand. Which, unfortunately, didn't work out." Mal explains.

"Ouch." He responds.

"Come on, my mom's counting on me! I can't let her down!"

"We can do this... if we stick together." Jay adds.

"And we won't go back until we do." Mal adds on, "Because we're rotten."

"To the core." The others add on together.

"Oh, yeah. I found out that Fairy Godmother blesses Ben with the wand at coronation and we all get to go." Evie says after, "I have nothing to wear, of course."

Before anyone could even try to say anything in response, there was a knock at the door. It was Ben, checking in on them. While he was there, Mal asked if what they heard about everyone being at coronation was true, and what the chances were that they could be near the front. Ben did confirm that they were all invited, but the only main people that were allowed near the front besides himself was his family and his girlfriend. After that, Mal closed the door in his face and turned to the rest of the group.

"I think it's time that Bennyboo got himself a new girlfriend." She tells them, "And I need a love spell."

Later that night, the group minus the imps snuck out of their rooms and into the kitchen to help Mal prepare her love spell. They decided to disguise it as a batch of cookies, and had put nearly everything in that they needed.

"Alright, it says that we still need one tear, and I never cry." She says.

"Let's just chop up some onions." Carlos offers.

"No, it says that we need one tear of human sadness. And this love potion gets the best reviews, so we have to follow it exactly."

"We could send Demitri to bully Rage or Misery for it." Carlos offers again.

"Yeah, but one problem. They're not human." Demitri corrects.

"Look, a tear's a tear." Jay adds.

"That's not exactly true, Jay." Evie informs, "They both have antibodies and enzymes, but an emotional tear has more protein-based hormones than a reflex tear."

There was a brief stunned silence before there was a knock on the door, and Mal quickly covered the spellbook before the person entered, which turned out to be Lonnie. Demitri almost didn't recognize her at first with her hair longer and more brown, but he liked it.

"There you are, Mal!" She says, "I was looking for you. You know, all the girls want you to do their hair! Oh, Hi Demitri!" He waves at her before she continues, "Midnight snack, huh? Whatcha guys making?"

"Nothing special, just cookies." Mal responds casually as Lonnie sips her finger in to taste it, sending the group into a panic.

"What? I'm not gonna double dip." Lonnie responds.

"Feel anything?" Evie asks carefully.

"Yeah, like maybe it might be missing something?" Mal adds.

Jay then decided to push Demitri closer to the girls and see if anything would happen, but all he got was a glare from the boy.

"It could use some chips." Lonie eventually responds, going to find said item.

"And those are?" Mal asked.

"Chocolate chips." Lonnie answers, "Just the most important food group." She set down a small bowl and put some in the cookie dough. "Wait, didn't your moms ever make you guys chocolate chip cookies? Like, when you're feeling sad, and they're fresh from the oven, with a big old glass of milk and she just makes you laugh and puts everything into perspective and..." She paused when she saw the expressions on each of the VK's faces. "Why are you all looking at me like that?"

"It's different where we're from." Demitri answers.

"Yeah, I know." Lonnie says, " I just, you know, I thought... even villains love their kids."

There was another silence from the group as Demitri looked down, thinking about what she said. Hades has been alright to him, but he never met his birth mother. Any time he asked, Hades just dismissed the question, and he never really saw Maleficent as much of a stepmom either during that time they were together.

"Oh." Lonnie eventually says, after realizing why they were all silent. "How awful." She tried to comfort the closest one to her, which happened to be Demitri, and she placed her hands on top of his. This caused him to look back up at her and give her the closest thing he knew to a sympathetic smile until Mal suddenly wiped off the single tear that was running down her cheek and flinging it into the cookie batter.

"Yeah, well, big bummer, but we have to get these into the oven, so thank you so much for coming by." She says, escorting Lonnnie out. The rest of the group then finished baking the cookies, and when they were ready, brought them back to the girls's room before calling it a night.
