14- A weaved box

The next morning I woke up with a smile. I felt Elijah on top of me, showering my body with butterfly kisses. I opened my eyes to see him smiling down at me.

"Morning, beautiful." He kissed my lips passionately. I kissed him back, still halfway asleep.
"You still tired? It's already ten a.m. You normally wake up at eight." He chuckled.

"If I remember correctly, we both didn't fall asleep until early in the morning." I scoffed.
"You're right." He smirked and kissed me again. I felt him down there and moaned when he started nibbling on my neck softly. But before we could get any further, a voice outside interrupted us.

"Elijah, Lilah. Are you doing naughty things again? I thought after last night you wouldn't be able to move today. Guess I was wrong." Toby yelled and I blushed. He heard us? Oh God. Elijah groaned and lifted his head from the crook of my neck to look towards his room door.

"Toby, shut the fuck up!" He yelled and I heard Toby scoff behind the door.
"No need to be mean." Elijah rolled his eyes at that and got back to kissing my neck.

"Anyways. The boss needs me at work. I'll be back in a few hours!" Toby's words made me gasp. Work! Elijah lifted his head to frown at me.
"Are you okay? Did I hurt you?" He asked.

"Work! I have to go to work." I panicked and he let out a breath of relief.
"Why don't you just skip?" He asked and I shook my head.

"No way. That's my very first work, I can't just skip." I said.
"Why not? You're already two hours late, they'll survive a day without you. Besides, you can spend a day with me." He added, smiling confidently. I sighed and ran a hand through my hair. What should I do?

"Look, I'll go take a shower. You can call your work and say that you had a family emergency or something. And when you're done, you join me." He got off me, not really leaving much space for a discussion. I guess I'll take a day off then.

After he walked outside, I looked around for my clothes. I spotted my jeans and fished my phone out of the pocket. I was slightly shaking when I called the secretariat. I never skipped school, not even as a student. And lying wasn't my best quality.

"Johnson's elementary school, how may I help you?" I heard the secretary's voice ask and almost sighed in relief when I recognized her voice. She was the nicer one out of the two secretaries that the school had.

"Hey, Gertrude. It's me, Lilah." I said and heard her gasp slightly.
"Hey, Lilah. Where are you? Is everything okay?" She asked and I really didn't want to lie to her, but spending a whole day with Elijah sounded too good.

"I'm okay. There was just a family emergency and I had to be there. I'm sorry, I couldn't call earlier." I lied.
"Oh gosh, I hope everybody's fine. No need to apologize, dear. Come back whenever you want. I'll let the principal know." She said and I panicked. I didn't want this to be a big deal.

"I'll come back tomorrow as usual. There's no need to let her know. Everything's fine now. I'd rather not have to talk about it tomorrow." I said.
"Oh, I get it. I won't tell. So you're coming back tomorrow?" She asked.

"Yes." I confirmed and we talked a little more before I hung up. I heard the shower still running and smirked.

"I love that movie." Elijah said after the movie ended. I yawned before stretching. My boyfriend stood up to take out the DVD.
"You tired yet?" He chuckled.

"No. The movie just made me feel sleepy. It was so lame." I smirked up at him and he fake gasped.
"Take that back." He said and neared me after placing the DVD back in its case. I shook my head, smiling innocently.

"You're in no position to judge that movie. Your favourite movie is for children." He smirked and I scoffed.
"So? It's very educational." I told him and he nodded.
"Sure. Whatever you say."

"Oh, you little-" I stopped talking as soon as I heard Elijah's front door shut close. We turned to see Toby walk inside, a scowl on his face. Elijah and I exchanged a look.

"What happened?" I asked, playing innocent.
"Some stupid teenagers kept calling me at work, asking where they should deliver the pizza to." He said and I almost laughed, but refrained from it.

"Teenagers?" Elijah asked. Toby groaned, sitting down next to me on the couch, a healthy distance between us.
"Yes, I don't know. But they changed their voices, so maybe-" He looked between Elijah and me.

"You." He narrowed his eyes and we burst out laughing.
"Why the heck did you do that? And how did you manage to sound so childish?" Toby asks us. Elijah chuckled while sitting down next to me, his hand placed on my thigh.

"We didn't call you, but some kids from the store. I gave them your phone number and each ten bucks if they called you a couple of times and pretended to be the pizza delivery." Elijah said.

"What the fuck? Why would you do that?" His best friend asked.
"Revenge for the 'knock-her-up'- advice." Elijah said seriously and Toby's eyes widened before they landed on me. I narrowed my eyes at him.

After our shower this morning, where we realized we almost didn't use a condom again, Elijah decided to drop the bomb. He seriously tried to knock me up the first time we had sex. I hit him, punched him and scowled at him for that. He almost knocked me up, just because his stupid best friend told him that!

So when we went grocery shopping, me still being mad at Elijah, he had this idea. I still didn't forgive him, but it was a start. We met those children and told them to prank the hell out of Toby. After that we went to his apartment again, he cooked for me and kept apologizing. After an apology massage, I gave in.

"Uh, I didn't mean that. You need to know that I was drunk and most likely joking. It's not my fault this guy listens to everything I say." Toby exclaimed and Elijah punched him. I snickered when Toby exaggerated by falling on the floor and holding his shoulder.

"Such a poser." Elijah shook his head and then stood up, holding out his hand for me.
"By the way, your manager is downstairs. He told me you didn't pick up your phone, so you should go downstairs." Toby said, recovering quickly.

That might've been my fault, since Stacey kept calling me, interrupting mine and Elijah's day together. I avoided her and when it run during the movie marathon a few hours ago, Elijah turned it off and from that on, this afternoon was called a mobile phone free evening. Meaning he had to turn his phone off too.

"Alright." Elijah said and pulled me up. We walked into his room.
"I'll be back in a minute? Are you okay with being alone for a few? If not, you can come with me, but I doubt-"
"I'm fine, Elijah. I'll just wait here for you and-" I looked around, before finding a stress ball on his nightstand.

"-and play with your ball. If that's okay with you." I said, squeezing the little green ball. Elijah smirked, before leaning down to kiss me slowly.
"You can play with all of my balls." He joked and I giggled before shaking my head in amusement.

"I'll be back soon." He pecked my lips again, before leaving me alone in his room. I smiled and sat down on his bed, squeezing the ball and occasionally throwing it up in the air. I closed my eyes when it landed on my face, because I wasn't fast enough to catch it with my hands.

"Shit." I cursed when I saw it roll under the bed. I sighed before sitting up and kneeling down on the floor. My hand went under Elijah's bed in search for the ball. I got a hold of something else and frowned when it felt like a basket. Did he keep his laundry basket down there? I pulled it out from under the bed, curiosity getting the best of me.

It wasn't a basket, but a weaved box. I frowned and realized I probably shouldn't have pulled it out. What if it was personal? I know how much Elijah values his privacy. But at the same time, something in the back of my mind told me to open the box. Maybe because of what Stacey said about Elijah being shady. Which I didn't think, but then again, he still hasn't told me about his past and maybe I'll never find out.

"Ugh." I groaned, before opening it swiftly. My breath hitched and my eyes widened. I saw a soccer jersey with the name Clark on it. The thing was, it had the colours of my old high school, Easton hill. I took the jersey out of the box and saw that it was in the size of a boy, not big enough for a teenager, but too big for a child. So probably a preteen. I placed the jersey aside when I saw more things in the box.

I took out the yearbook and turned a few pages, looking for his name. I saw that his name was listed in my class and I frowned even deeper. How did we share the same class and yet I don't remember him at all? After finding the page of my senior class, I gasped.

He had drawn over his own picture with black marker. The photo of the teenager not even visible. Why did he do that? I tried to find at least a few outlines and leaned in closer.

"What are you doing?" I jumped at his calm voice and turned around to see Elijah leaning against his door frame, his jaw clenched. I didn't even hear the door open. He raised an eyebrow when his question met silence.

"What are you doing, Lilah?" He asked again, his voice angry. I stood up, the yearbook in my hand.
"This." I started, narrowing my eyes at him.

"What is this?" I asked.
"Looks like a yearbook." He answered and I glared now.
"It's the yearbook of my school. Where apparently you went to as well. Why the heck didn't you tell me?" I asked and he glared back.

"You weren't supposed to find it. Why the fuck did you look under my bed? You don't trust me, so you decide to invade my fucking privacy?" He growled.
"I don't trust you? I did, until this showed me that I shouldn't have. You lied to me!" I snapped and he neared me.

"How did I lie to you?" He bit out, eyes glaring.
"Yesterday when Stacy asked if we ever met before. You lied and said no." I threw the yearbook at his stomach in anger. He didn't even flinch, but it sounded like it hurt.

"No, I avoided her question when she first asked and answered with another question. That's not lying." He kicked the yearbook that fell to the ground.
"And when you let her define the word meet-"

"Which is when two people introduce each other. We never did that. For fuck's sake, you didn't even know my name! We never met. I just so happened to be there. We never even exchanged a word!" He clenched his fists and I gulped. I've never seen him this angry.

"And what about all the other times I asked you? What's the big deal, Elijah? Why couldn't you just say that you were in my class? Why does this have to escalate that much?" I didn't understand it.

"I told you about my past. I thought you trusted me. But I guess that bitch that you call your best friend finally got to your head." He chuckled sarcastically. I took a step forward, but he held out his hand.

"Don't. When I come back, you better not be here anymore." He growled and then turned around to walk away.
"Elijah!" I yelled, walking after him. He didn't stop, just pulled his jacket on.

"Don't fucking follow me. I don't need a girlfriend that doesn't trust me enough not to open a box that obviously wasn't meant to be seen by anybody else but me!" He yelled and I stopped walking after him.

He slammed his door shut and I barely heard Toby's footsteps that stopped next to me.

Did he just break up with me?
