Chapter 9

G and Giotto looked towards the shouts. Giotto struggled to stand feet slipping in the water. The blond gasped out in pain when he hit the ground again. G glared walking towards the shouts.

"G! We need to get out of here!" Giotto hissed trying to get G to come back. The redhead didn't listen to his friend.

"They hurt you didn't they?" G asked a dark tone in his voice.

"Yes, but that doesn't matter G! We need to leave now!" Giotto said urgently. Once again most of what the blond said fell on deaf ears. However, the answer to what G asked didn't. Red flames ignited around G as he walked deeper into the waterway. Giotto's eyes widened at how wild the flames were. Giotto stood using the wall as support.

G rounded the corner going out of Giotto's sight, but the red flames illuminated the area. Light and shadow flickered with the fire. Giotto swallowed down his fear and moved to follow the redhead. He was halfway to the corner G had disappeared around when screams of fear and pain echoed, bouncing off the cobbled walls.

"G?" Giotto whispered fear lacing his quivering voice. One of the men that had been chasing Giotto ran out of the conjoining waterway, a look of pure fear on his face. A wild ball of red flames engulfed the man. The man screamed in agony as Giotto watched far too shocked and afraid to do anything to help. Giotto watched as the man turned to ash and fall into the flowing water only to be washed away. He felt sick. He managed to get to the corner as the rest of the screaming stopped.

Carefully he inched around the corner. What he saw frightened him even more. G was laying in the water those red flames still surrounding him. The walls were covered in ash and partly disintegrated.

"G!" Giotto yelled running over to his redheaded friend ignoring the pain from his own wounds.

"Getaway..." G growled forcing himself up onto his hands and knees. Giotto flinched shaking his head.

"No, you need help," Giotto stated carefully placing his hand on G's shoulder. As he did that orange flames burst to life around him and intertwined with the red flames. Giotto watched fascinated while G had his eyes closed, feeling immense pain.

In the middle of the two swirling flames glowed a bright white. Giotto reached out to touch the white ball of flames only to flinch back when it darted away. The white ball went to G. It surrounded G's neck like a collar. Giotto watched awed as the glowing subsided. A black leather cord was clasped around the redhead's neck as a shield-shaped pendant that had a purple gemstone set in the bronze metal fell to hang down.

"G? Are you alright now?" Giotto asked worriedly, the two colored flames went away as soon as the necklace materialized. G sat up, on his knees, his hair still shadowed his face. Giotto shifted to look at his friend when pain flared in his side and leg. He gasped drawing G's attention. On the right side of the redhead's face was a red flame-like tattoo which stretched from his forehead past his chin, into his brownish-gray shirt. G caught Giotto from falling into the water when he noticed the blond was about to topple, the same red flame tattoo was also splotched on his right arm.

"Giotto!" G exclaimed concerned. Giotto didn't respond, having lost too much blood to remain conscious. G picked up his friend and hightailed it to where they were living together.

Giotto sighed looking up facing G's glare completely. "I'm not sure if I'll be able to explain properly since, well, I haven't exactly thought much about it. However, I'll do my best to answer your questions and explain. I gave into Daemon because of his real reason for betraying us. I kept my cousin a secret because I didn't want him involved until I had no choice, plus I knew he would do what was needed to maintain Vongola whether good or bad. Daemon would help him. Why I sealed the rings was to prevent hunger for power in future generations as well as to teach that there wasn't a reason to have the full power on display. I didn't tell or ask anyone of you because I knew you all would try to stop me, and I didn't want that cause it needed to happen as you can see." he said motioning around him. "I knew you all felt in your own way betrayed and forgotten not to mention hurt. I regret that, but I can't change what I did. The reason I left Italy was because I- I couldn't watch as Vongola changed, and I knew that if I started a family in Italy they would be hunted down by my enemies. Japan was the safest place I could think of. Yet even then it wasn't for me."

G looked at Giotto trying to process what was said. He didn't want to believe some of it. The redhead closed his eyes sighing. "What was Daemon's real reason for doing what he did?"

Giotto looked at G, seeing out tired his burst of anger made him. Giotto stood and began pushing G to his room. "Rest G. Take time to process what I have already told you. There's more explanation, but I'll tell you when you are ready to hear it."

G looked back at Giotto ready to protest, but the look in Giotto's blue eyes silenced him. G sighed folding his arms looking ahead muttering under his breath. Giotto chuckled lightly and stopped in front of G's room. G wheeled himself further into the room.

"Don't worry G, I'll tell you more later," Giotto said before G closed the bedroom door.
