Chapter 4
A couple of months later Giotto wasn't sick but still couldn't move other than his upper body. Therefore he had to use a wheelchair to get around, even then not without help sometimes. Seeing how some of the current guardians looked at him dragged Giotto's mentality down even further. He knew he was weak. He didn't want to be nor meant to be. He knew he had to build his strength back up to where it once was. Maybe then he could repay them for their kindness.
As he wheeled himself around the manor slowly getting used to the new layout Tsuna walked up to him with a couple of bags. Giotto looked a bit confused as he was turned around being pushed by Tsuna's pet lion.
"What's going on?" Giotto asked confused, he was hoping they weren't kicking him out. He knew he still needed a lot of help.
"You and I are taking a trip to Japan, Giotto. I said I would show you proof of how many years have gone by, and I know the pictures of the generations of Vongola didn't help much," Tsuna replied smiling lightly. Giotto nodded slightly relaxing as the lion pushed him to the wheelchair accessible car. Tsuna and the driver carefully loaded Giotto into the car before getting in themselves. Next, they were off to somewhere Giotto has never seen. Giotto was still fascinated by the idea of a car.
A roar of an engine startled Giotto as he looked out the partly open window. A large white cylinder with triangular-shaped appendages on either side followed by a tail with three smaller triangular shapes on it was getting closer to the ground. Giotto watched it in awe not sure what to make of it. He knew G, if he was here, would be absolutely fascinated with this technology.
Tsuna smiled lightly watching the blond look at the plan that was landing at the nearby airport. He knew Giotto was going to be awed by everything he saw. Even more so once they arrive in Japan. Things had certainly changed in the last 400 years in Japan, let alone Italy. At the private portion of the airport Tsuna and the driver unloaded Giotto and Tsuna bid the driver goodbye before pushing Giotto into the build. The blond looked around once again awed.
Tsuna showed his ID to some guards and they went by skipping security altogether. Giotto was a bit confused but decided not to question it. Once past the security portion, another security guard leads the two of them to a private plane. The orange plane had a massive decal of the Vongola emblem on the sides of the plane.
"Wow..." Giotto mumbled in shock as he was wheeled down the ramp towards it.
"Amazing isn't it?" Tsuna said. Giotto nodded his agreement at a loss for words. He was wheeled on the plane with a few rough bumps which caused his legs to hurt. Once in a space made for a wheelchair, the wheels were locked and he was buckled down to keep him safe. Tsuna sat in the chair next to Giotto settling in for the long flight. Giotto just looked around fascinated, too distracted to notice the aircraft was moving and speeding up to take off. What he did notice was the takeoff and the feeling of being pressed further into his wheelchair caused him to yelp a bit.
Tsuna looked at Giotto from the book he was reading. "It's alright Giotto, it's just gravity and the planes speed."
Giotto nodded unsurely as he stayed silent. As the extra gravity grew less intense Giotto began to relax once again.
The flight was long and Giotto slept most of the flight having tired himself out, plus his body was still recovering. He jolted awake when the tires of the plane hit the runway plus the loud noise of the plane slowing down. Tsuna stretched tiredly, he hadn't slept much.
After a few minutes, the plane pulled to a stop at the gate the ramp extending to get them inside that building. Once again Tsuna pushed him up the ramp and into the airport. Giotto was still tired from the flight but still looked around curiously. Even though he knew a very old version of the language that was being spoken around him, he still understood. The closer they got to the exit the more the surroundings changed growing more modern.
"Everything is so different..." Giotto mumbled.
Tsuna looked at him. "It is, it's no longer the Edo period. It's the Reiwa period."
"Reiwa period?" Giotto questioned looking back at Tsuna.
Tsuna nodded. "That's the name for the current era."
"Oh..." Giotto mumbled as they got to a car that was waiting for them.
Soon they were on their way to where they were staying during their trip. As they drove through town Giotto was having a hard time seeing it as it was currently, even though he spent such a short time in Japan before. Tsuna watched the blond's expression change as they passed shrines both old and newer. After some time they arrived at the oldest still existing cemetery in the town.
"Giotto, are you ready?" Tsuna asked gently after they had gotten out of the car.
"As ready as I can be I guess..." Giotto mumbled nodding. Tsuna sighed and slowly wheeled Giotto to the headstones he himself had only found a few years ago. Giotto looked at the dates on the headstones they passed seeing the years ever so slowly creep towards the year he remembered. Dread started to make itself known in the pit of his stomach. When Tsuna stopped in front of a large cluster of headstones which all sported the Sawada last name, the first name he saw was his own. Sawada Ieyasu 1598 - 1626 his wife and kids followed many years later, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and some great-great-grandchildren followed.
Giotto stared at the headstones shock and sadness raging through him. He didn't notice he was crying till Tsuna offered him a clean handkerchief. The blond took the offered cloth as the brunet knelt down to pay respects. No words were spoken between the first and tenth don as they mourned their family.
