One —————— ALIEN

When surrounded by war,
one must eventually choose a side.

korasnow ❪   ▇▇ ▇▇  ❫
———— korasnow is 26 light years away from earth, with its neighboring planet being tamaran. it is a secluded planet inhabited by the korasnowi.

IT WAS SILENT.

She stares towards the frosted chains wrapped around her hands with her eyes glassy and a sense of fear washing over her. The sounds of inaudible voices surrounded the young girl but she didn't pay attention since they were all whispering about her. How could she do this? She betrayed our planet. The last thing that Froststorm wanted to do was to disappoint her people. One day, the throne would be hers even though she would have to wait a few thousand years to take control. She's watched many criminals weave their way through the ice filled courtroom, walls made of frozen water with ancient cravings sliced in the icy substance. Her mother had looked at her, a blank face with tears slowly running down from her eyes. Kal'ia was catatonic with a sense of fear of what type of punishment Sonār would bring her. Her own daughter was being put on trial for things she could've committed, but no way could she have done all the things said. Froststorm's hands were chained in her lap, fingers running numb, not from the cold, but from how motionless she sat. Kuruk placed his hand on her shoulder making her flinch.

"Your highness, don't you think this is...brutal? This is your own sister —"

Shut up, Kuruk. Froststorm wanted to leap from her seat and shout. Her uncle Kuruk had been representing her in this trial even though he sucked at it. She wanted to take the punishment, which was death. It could end her suffering quickly but there were punishments worse than death.

Winterstorm was perched high. White hair tied into a top bun resting on her head with the smug look of annoyance covering her face. She had a pretty face but not so much a pretty heart. Unfortunately, she was the lead of the council, the ones that would decide Froststorm's punishment for treason. Winterstorm sighs, blowing a puff of hair away from her face. "Uncle, my dearest uncle." She stands from her seated position with the long fabrics draped on her shoulders, flowing behind her. She was dressed in silver armor which was decorated with colors of purple and blue with hints of green. Holding her spiked mace, Winterstorm glares at her younger sister. "Don't let bias stand in your way. She's your niece, your blood. But this amount of crimes committed must be addressed."

"Crimes?" Froststorm blurted. Kuruk turns to her, trying to usher her to be quiet. Froststorm stands with her chains dangling beside her legs. "The only one who has committed crimes here is you!"

Winterstorm's face turns evil, with her jumping down from her platform made of ice to stand in front of her sister. The crowd in the courtroom murmurs. Froststorm's eyes meet Winterstorm's. Green and glittery, filled with hatred and jealousy. "You dare talk back against your queen?!" She spits. "Sit down, now."

Winterstorm's eyes flash white, taking control of Froststorm's body and making her sit back in her chair. There was no doubt Winterstorm had more power than her, more control which made her one of most of powerful on the planet. She calls herself queen. The day of Winterstorm's coronation was a day that Froststorm dreaded — it was a time where many inhabitants of Korasnow would gather to praise the young princess take reign into queen. But Winterstorm had abused her power by fighting her way to the top to get what she wanted. She had completed the tests and all the challenges, now the one thing she was missing was the crown. "The council and I have decided. On the basis of treason and conspiracy I banish Ivōres Frost Jelmāzma to Earth."

The crowd jumps up from their seats, screaming, crying, mixed emotions flooding from the people of Korasnow. Froststorm's reaction had been sour. She stares at her feet, remembering the time her uncle told her Earth which was dangerous, deadly, something that the people of Korasnow never talked about. Ever since the disappearance of Anya, the people have been more on edge. But why? Why not just get her death over with? Maybe impaled by a sword, bludgeoned with a mace or strip Froststorm's powers until she withers away in a jail cell. There was no real, hard evidence to support Winterstorm's claims with no real punishment. But perhaps Earth would send the princess to her death.

Froststorm slumps in her seat, her eyes getting watery with her fate. Sure it's better than dying, but who knows what Earth would bring? "Silence!" Winterstorm yells and her eyes flash white once more which made everyone quiet their screams and sit down in the audience.

Winterstorm inches closer to her young sister, the coolness of her breath tingling the peach fuzz on Froststorm's nose. She smirks, knowing that this punishment would be the end of her sister. "Never come back, princess."

happy harbor, new york ❪   july 17, 10:30 edt  ❫

THE WAVES clashed roughly at the harbor of New York as a car was parked at the boardwalk, a slim blonde woman leaning up against it with a cigarette tucked between her red lips. The moonlight reflected off the waves, with hints of glitter and shine bouncing off the soft ripples. The night at Happy Harbor's boardwalk was somewhat quiet like every other night in the small town. She was waiting, waiting patiently for the young girl that came from the stars.

This hadn't been the weirdest day Dinah Lance experienced. When Bruce told her that he was planning on extending the junior Justice League, she didn't think that meant picking children up from the side of the road in the middle of nowhere. Will Osborn was first. Carrying two duffel bags, dressed in a bomber jacket and boots in ninety degree weather and stood on the side of a dirt road as Dinah swiftly picked her up. Will didn't want any heroes lurking around her house, especially since her whole family consisted of gang bangers. Will didn't feel right switching sides. But here she was, smoking and waiting for Dinah to pick up the next asset.

The next young member of the team had came from the stars. Froststorm didn't think Earth would be her new home for the next few years. She had to get adjusted to her life on Earth since she was banished here. She felt bitter about the trial. No evidence, no real crime yet she was on the next journey to the foreign planet. The young girl's fingers braided with the strands of her white hair as the two of them drift into the abyss of space. She had never been this far away from home before. Only to fight battles on other planets but now, this was deadly territory. Earth came into view, flashing its blues and greens with opaque clouds at the surface. Froststorm's stomach churned. This is goodbye.

"Teh. īlon're bē konīr." Kuruk came behind Froststorm and placed his hand on her shoulder. She jumped, staring up at him. He flashed her a light smile, one that signaled that everything was going to be alright. Except it wasn't. "Princess?"

Kuruk had been there since the beginning. Protecting her, taking care of her, more than her own father. He bent down to her seated height with his blue eyes shimmering into her own. His face was soft, warm as he smiled with his white hair tossed in different directions and a singular beaded braid was dangling as he tilted his head. Kuruk dressed in the typical Korasnowi attire, blues mixed with silver metals and a top that was cut at the sleeves to flash his tattoos. He looked almost identical to Froststorm's father.

"I can't do this." The young girl leaps from her seat to rest her weight on the dashboard of the spaceship. Her eyes dart toward the planet that was ahead of her. Kuruk is confused. Partially because it was Froststorm's idea to leave. She didn't feel welcome on her own home planet. "I'm leaving home, I'm leaving my people, and you. What if they hate me?" She felt the sting of tears pricking the corner of her eyes.

"Tala." Which meant daughter in their language. "Everything will be alright. Maybe Sōnar will change her mine but think of this experience, as a training mission." Frost glared at him. His words wasn't the comforting ones she needed to hear.

The young girl brings her knees to her chest in her chair. "You know this isn't right — None of this is right."

Kuruk sighs, shaking his head at the situation. He knew none of this made sense with his own niece punishing his other one by banishing her to Earth. Earth of all places. "I know it, I just...I'm sorry, princess."

Frost's eyes get glossy as she stares out into the velvet abyss of space. "Yeah well, I heard enough sorries my whole life."

He couldn't tell Froststorm anything to make her feel better than what she was already feeling. Her bitter rage bubbled inside her but twisted into pure nervousness. Kuruk left her be by walking off to the control panel in front of them. She just stares as the ship inched closer to the planet. Once they cleared through the atmosphere, they hovered over a beachside town, a quiet one with sand and sailboats parked at the dock. The ship made its landing with particles of sand spraying everywhere as Canary shielded her eyes from the ship's engine.

"Let me go first, your majesty." Kuruk unfastens his seatbelt and the railway to exit of the ship opens. Froststorm feels sick, her stomach churns and her airway is tight. She grabs her bags which is not carrying much since leaving to Earth was last minute. She grabbed what she could.

Following Kuruk, Froststorm is met with clean air, the temperature difference between home and Korasnow settling on the surface of Froststorm's skin. Her shoes sink into the dunes of the sand and saltwater flourish through her senses. It was too dark to tell what Earth looked like. Kuruk approaches the blonde woman, sharp eyes scanning her figure up and down. Her brows raise and her arms folded across her chest. "Are you Dinah Lance?"

His sudden English shocks Dinah. What alien knows how to speak English? Dinah nods, accepting the strange break between them. "You must be Kuruk. It's great to meet you in person," Dinah extends her hand for him to shake which he gladly accepts. She looks passed the man's shoulders to peer into the open spaceship. "Where's the girl? Bruce doesn't like waiting." The man turned us head slightly. "Dārilaros," he spoke.

Froststorm was tall, brown skin and long white hair, dressed in a silver and white crop top and matching pants that were decorated in metal and she emerged from the ship and onto the sands. She carried her bags in her hands and she had a sword on her back, along with a thin piece of jewelry decorating her forehead. She looked at the Kuruk with her striking blue eyes narrowing with her thin white brows. "Iksos bisa se ābra?" The language was foreign to the blonde woman; she quirked a brow trying to decipher what she was saying.

"Yes it is," the man spoke in English. "Mrs. Lance." He turned to the other lady in front of him. "Please take care of her. The princess has been having a hard time lately. Unfortunately, she was our only hope for Korasnow."

"Mhm." Dinah looked down at the sands then looked back up go face him. She had a reassuring smile on her lips. "She'll be taken good care of. I promise." He nodded, facing the young girl. He grabbed her arms and pressed her forehead against his own, the two of them shutting their eyes. "Kostagon īlon rhaenagon arlī, dārilaros."

For the first time in her life, she felt scared, a sense of worry and fear washing over her. She didn't even speak the language or barely knew anything about what Earth culture had to bring. Of course aliens were on Earth in secret, but Froststorm couldn't leave what she knew behind for a life she didn't know. But she was the princess, she's fought in battles worse than this.

The young girls eyes got glassy. It was almost time. "Hey." He tilted Froststorm's chin upwards. She had looked down, blinking away salty tears. She had tried to refrain herself from crying but she listened to the waves to calm down. The receding of the saltwater, pushing forwards and backwards against the sand. "Tala." He called out to her.

Kuruk cupped Froststorm's cheeks, looking into her beautiful blue eyes. "You'll be fine." He pressed a sweet kiss onto her forehead and pulled her in a tight hug. Froststorm hugged him back, taking his scent and enjoying their final moments.

He pulled away and smoothed out her hair. "Be good, alright?" And she nodded. He nodded towards Dinah to let her know of his departure before stepping onto the ship and taking off into the night sky.

It was awkward for a moment. Almost sour. Froststorm quickly wiped her tears — emotion was weakness. She wasn't home anymore, which meant she had to put on a good face for the people she would be meeting. "C'mon, princess." She motioned towards her car that was parked a few feet away.

The two walked back to the sports car and Dinah took Frost's bags, stuffing it into the trunk of the Chevy Camaro. Dinah slipped into the drivers seat and Frost hopped in the back. The blonde turned her head towards the seventeen year old girl sitting in the passenger, a cigarette between her fingers that had black polish on her nails. "Damn what took so long? This is my second cigarette."

"Relax." Dinah buckled her seatbelt and put the car in drive, driving off the beach and down the road. "It was hard for her to say goodbye." Dinah stopped at a red light, opening up a small booklet and reading off the page. The woman struggled to form a sentence, the words that were written were probably written incorrectly. She butchered the words in the language of Korasnowi and Froststorm quirked her brows, looking out the window. The light turned green and she accelerated. "You know what, forget it. This language is too difficult."

The girl in the passenger let out a dry laugh that was followed by a cough. She turned in her seat to face the platinum blonde beauty. "I'm Will." She reached over and let her free hand out for Froststorm to shake. The girl didn't know what she was saying or what her gesture meant. Will returned her hand and looked out her own window. "Not the most talkative."

"She doesn't know what you're saying, genius." Dinah made a right turn onto another empty harbor and parked the car. "She can't speak English."

The car pulled up into the small lot by a mountain covered in shrubs of green and cracking rocks. "A mountain?" Will was confused. The trio approached a side of the rock, only for it to open into a entrance to walk in. The mountain was hollowed out, almost empty with a group of heroes standing in the center around a large computer screen. Froststorm could finally get a clear look of Will in the light. Her skin was tanned and she was short in stature with long dark brown hair reaching her waist. She wore a long sleeve black turtleneck with a heavier coat like jacket dangled over her arm. She wore leather gloves as well with dark jeans and boots. "Sorry I'm late," Dinah rubbed her neck sheepishly, approaching the rest of the group who was talking indistinctly. There were also a few teenagers beside the adults who looked at the three of them approaching. "I have the new assets with us."

Batman was first to speak, dressed in black a stoic expression on his face under his bat shaped mask.
"Everyone, this is Princess Froststorm. She'll be joining us."

The group stares at her, Froststorm stares at them back. There were four boys standing there, one who was short with dark glasses and dark hair, another who was taller with spiky red hair who winked at her and the last two who were the tallest stood beside them. One had a darker complexion and bleached white hair and the other, buff build, crystal blue eyes with a stoic expression on his face. The only other girl was there too, a green skinned, slim girl with bright red hair. She's a Martian. Froststorm thought.

"Now that you're all here —" Batman starts to speak but is quickly cut off. Froststorm drops her bags and makes eyes on the red haired individual, grabbing his shirt with her fist and pressing a rough kiss to his lips. This was the part she hated about her powers. Skin to skin contact was a way to absorb new languages and kissing happened to be the fastest method. The group was stunned, some snickering, others with their mouths wide open. Froststorm broke the impromptu kissed and pushed the boy back on his feet. She wiped her mouth with the back of her hand.

The boy's freckled face flushed red under his cluster of freckles. "Uh — um," his words were jumbled as he was confused and stunned at the same time.

"I'm sorry," Froststorm speaks. She flattens her hair with her fingers while making eye contact with every individual in the room that had wide eyes at her. "Like this bat-man stated, I'm Froststorm. I don't speak English so I did what I must to gain the language."

"So...by kissing you can learn languages?" The boy with the white buzz cut murmured.

Froststorm clears her throat. "Yes, but not just by kissing. Any physical contact for that matter but kissing is the fastest way to learn and I retain more information that way. I'm once again very sorry. Um what's your name —?"

Wally, still stammered and bewildered by the sudden contact, is interrupted by the shorter boy with dark hair. "This is Wally. Wally West, aka, Kid Flash. And I'm sure he greatly appreciated your kiss." Wally nodded rapidly, his face still beat red.

"Anyway," Dinah speaks loudly across the room.
"You will have a chance to ask all the questions you want, later. But this is Will. She'll also be with you for the time being." Will waved with a few fingers and smiled. "Nice to meet you all."

As the group started to disperse, the other girl approached them the two newcomers. "Hi, I'm M'Gann." She smiled. Her skin was a deep forest green with a warm smile glancing over her peach colored lips and freckles dusting across her nose. Her outfit consisted of a simple top with a matching skirt "I'm from Mars by the way. Nice to know that we have another interglacial being with us."

Froststorm examined M'Gann — seemed friendly with a calm, sweet expression on her face. She didn't know many Martians besides M'Gann. Any otherworldly beings were rare to stop by Korasnow. "I'm from Korasnow. It's in the Vega system." Froststorm's voice was soft with a slight rasp.

M'Gann placed her hand over her chest. "Ah yes! I've heard about Korasnow before." M'Gann's face lit up immediately. "I've always wanted to visit. What's it like there?"

Froststorm already started to feel homesick. The mountains of Korasnow were grand with fresh blankets of snow and crystallized snowflakes falling from the dreary skies and icecaps filled the oceans. The Korasnowi's were an advanced race with advanced technology . The culture, the atmosphere and even the cold weather was something that Froststorm was going to crave, even if her final memories of it were pure sadness. The young princess flickers back up to M'Gann. "It's beautiful."

~

In the night atmosphere, a figure laid against an adjacent hill from Mount Justice. The individuals identity was sealed and dressed in a slick black one piece to help them blend into the dark surroundings. It was simply a hidden figure from watchful eyes as they gripped onto the rocks edge with a grappling hook. Their line of vision was right towards the entrance of Mount Justice. They held a weapon in their hands while pressing their fingers to the communication device in their ear. "Boss? Yeah, I spotted her. She's on Earth."

AUTHOR'S NOTE,
