Chapter Thirty Eight

DEMETRI CALLED SYDNEY the next day and told her that the school was having a car wash fun raiser to raise money for Miguel's surgery.  Though she was reluctant to leave his side,  she thought it was a great idea. It was already a huge success by the time she arrived. Miguel was a friend to everyone and they all wanted to help out.

"Demetri, you're getting my hair wet!" The Brit shouted at Demetri from across the car.

he threw his hands up dramatically while holding the water hose.  "You're standing right where I'm spraying!"

"Then point it in another direction!" She argued at threw one of the soapy rags in his face.

"Guys, this is awesome!" Charlie said in excitement.

"I hope Miguel knows how much I love him. I hate washing cars." Sydney grumbled and sprayed the soap off the vehicle they were currently washing.

"You hate any physical labor." Sam laughed when she walked by.

"At least I look good while doing it." Sydney said and flipped her ponytail.

She laughed when she saw Bert struggling to reach the top of one of the cars to rinse it off. She dropped her rag and walked over to stand behind him. She hooked her arms under his armpits and hoisted him up, letting him spray the soap off with the hose. "Thanks Sydney."  He grinned.

"No problem, little dude." She replied and ruffled his hair before going over to help a Moon and the cheerleaders wash one of the cars. "Moon, can you believe the turn out?"

"Isn't it great!" Moon said in excitement.

A group of guys piled in car pulled up next to them. "Hey, can we be next?" The driver flirted.

Sydney looked at them in disgust.

Chris sped over to them while holding a bucket full of water. "Sure thing!" He said cheerfully and climbed up the car. "You want the full wash and wax or just the wash?"

The girls giggled. "Thank you, Chris!" Sydney called out with a large smile.

"That'll be twenty bucks. Thank you." Nathan said and took their money.

Sydney walked around helping people wasn't the cars. "Here ya go, Sydney. Tell Miguel I said I hope he gets better." A boy from school said and handed her a twenty dollar bill out of the window.

"Thank you so much." She said politely and put the monely in the money box.

"Manual labor makes me tired." Sydney sighed and collapsed on Sam's couch.

Sam laughed. "I don't know why. You were drenching Demetri with water for half of it."

She rolled her eyes.  "Only cause he kept getting soap in my eye."

"Are you feeling better? You were smiling a lot more today." Sam asked and sat beside her on the couch.

Sydney sat up and nodded. "I did, actually. It kinda took my mind off of everything. I'm just happy Carmen doesn't have to worry about the money now."

"Are you scared?" Sam questioned. "About the surgery?"

Sydney didn't want to admit she was terrified about the surgery for Miguel's sake.  Really,  she was terrified for him.  Both her parents were in the medical field so she knew a surgery as big as this one could make someone or break someone.  She only prayed that God was on Miguel's side with this one.

"I'm just hoping and praying he can pull through.  He's a tough one."  she replied,  smiling at the thought of her boyfriend.

Sam gave her a half smile and looked down at the couch briefly. "Have you seen Robby since what happened?"

Sydney sucked in a breath. After what happened at the school, Robby ran away. The cops found him and he was currently in jail. "I haven't. I'm not sure I can. Have you?"

Sam shook her head. "No. I'm not sure I can either."

The doorbell went off and Sam stood up from the couch to answer the door. Demetri and Chris stood on the other side with the other Miyagi-Dos. "Hey, what's up?"

"Is your dad here?" Chris asked.

"No,  he's at work. It's just Syd and I here. Why?" Sam responded and crossed her arms.

"Cobra Kai took the mone," Demetri started.

"They did what?" Sydney snapped and stood up like the flash.

Nate pushed past them and made himself visible. Sydney gasped at the sight of him. His shirt wad torn and dirty and his face was bloody. "They kicked the fucking shit out of me."

Sydney ran her hands though her hair in anger and shared a look with Sam.

The next morning, Miguel's surgeon had arrived at the hospital. Carmen called her and asked if she would come.  When she arrived,  she walked inside to see Johnny standing with Rosa.  "Hey Johnny."

He nodded at her.  "Hey Syd."

"Sydney,  querida."  Rosa said and opened her arms toward her.

Sydney hugged her tightly.  "Vine tan pronto como Carmen llamó,"  she pulled away and looked at Johnny.  "Tou look better than you did the other day."

"Thanks."  He said sarcastically.  "You gonna say hi to him before he goes in?"

"I wish I could be in there with him,"  she said and sighed.  "I'm so scared."

"Don't be,"  he assured and put a hand on her shoulder.  "He's tough as nails.  You know that."

"Even the strongest people can break."  She said sadly.

"Hey,  don't worry okay?  All you can do is be here for him.  Yeah

She nodded.  "Are you staying?"

He went quiet and spaced out for a minute.  "Yeah,  I'm gonna stay."

After a few minutes,  they were allowed to go back to Miguel's room to see him before the surgery.  Sydney let Carmen and Rosa go in first to give them some space.  She sat quietly in the waiting room with Johnny while they waited.

Carmen walked back into the waiting room.  "Sydney,  sweetheart,  he's asking for you."

Sydney glanced at Johnny and looked at her before smiling and walking out of the waiting room his room.  When she walked in,  he looked completely exhausted.  "Hi love."

Miguel rolled his head to side and smiled tiredly.  "Hey babe."

"How are you feeling?"  She said softly and sat on the edge of the bed.

"Nervous.  Anxious.  Worried.  Tired."  he trailed,  his eyes slowly blinking.

She nodded and reached her hand up to stroke his cheek.  "I'll be praying,  okay?"

He smiled and grabbed her hand that was on his face and kissed it.  "Thank you for being here."

"Of course.  I'll be here first thing tomorrow to see you,  okay?"  She whispered to him.

"Okay."  He whispered back.

She leaned forward and pressed her lips onto his.  "I love you."

He put his hand on the back of her neck and deepened the kiss.  "Say it again."

She giggled.  "I love you."

He smiled softly.  "I will never get tired of hearing that."

She flicked her eyebrows up.  "Good."

"I love you too."
