Chapter Sixty
Primadonna
SYDNEY LET OUT a loud sigh and leaned her head back against the head rest of her car. A few days passed since the fight between Johnny and Daniel and the tension between Miyagi-Do and Eagle Fang was intense. Sydney had been keeping her distance from karate for those few days and only practiced with Miguel. The rest of the time she spent focused on dance. She needed to clear her head from all the drama. She loved Daniel more than anything. He was like a second father to her but the unnecessary conflicts that he was creating along with Johnny was too much.
Hearing her sigh, Miguel looked over at her with the tiniest frown on his face. "You alright?"
Sydney shrugged. "Yeah, I'm okay. Just don't feel like being here today."
He reached over and grabbed he hand that was on the steering wheel. "I know what you mean,"
"Isn't that sad?" She asked and looked at him. "Something we both love and enjoy and we don't even want to do it?"
Miguel nodded sadly. "I've been feeling that way for a while,"
"I'm sorry." She said softly.
He cracked a smile. "At least we have each other, right?"
She nodded quickly. "Always."
The two of them got out of the car and made their way hand and hand to the warehouse. "Have you talked to Hawk?" Miguel asked.
After what happened with Cobra Kai, Eli cut off all contact with his friends. Sydney had been texting him for the last few days and asking if he was okay and if he needed anything, but he never responded. He didn't even show up at school. "No, I feel really bad. I can't imagine how he's feeling."
Miguel nodded in agreement. "Yeah. I mean, who does that? They should arrested for that shit."
Sydney nodded as well. "They deserve worse than that. They deserve to get their ass beat."
Miguel hinted a smile. "They'll get what they deserve at The All Valley."
She wrapped her arm around his waist. "I'll make sure of it, honey."
When they walked into the warehouse, everyone was already there. Johnny was pacing back and forth, fuming. "Everybody line up!" He hollered.
"And here we go," she muttered to herself. She sat her bag down and stood in a line with the others.
Johnny held up a piece of paper. "The board of The All Valley just announced there will be a separate boys and girls division."
"WHAT?" Sydney exclaimed and her eyes went wide.
The rest of the boys objected as well.
"Says they believe all females shall not participate in the boys division in fear of them getting hurt or seriously injured," Johnny read further.
Sydney scoffed. "I'm so sick of the misogynistic bullshit in this world,"
"I agree!" He pointed at her. "Whatever that means,"
They all looked at him oddly.
"This is the worst thing that could happened to us! Skills competition, bullshit. Kata isn't karate. It's dancing,"
The British girl gave him an offended look.
"Snsei, it sounds like we could use some more female students," Miguel suggested. He looked down at his girlfriend. "Syd can't fight all the girls by herself."
"Fine," Johnny nodded. "Do any of you know any girls? Frenchy?"
"None that would ever consider coming here," she shook her head and looked around the building in disgust.
The boys didn't say anything, none of them having ever talked to a girl besides Sydney.
"Of course you don't know any girls," Johnny muttered.
"There's this girl from the debate team," Mitch mentioned.
"Debate team?" Johnny repeated in disbelief. "We need killers, not more nerds. . . All right, go run some laps. Maybe it'll jog your memories. Frenchy, scroll through your Snapbook and Insta-something and look for some girls."
Sydney narrowed her eyes at him, feeling one of them twitch.
"Look, sensei, I-I know things for heated at Miyagi-Do, but with these new changes, maybe having Sam on our team would really help. Her and Sydney together make a great team. So maybe if you could to talk Mr. Laru—"
"I have nothing to say to him, alright," Johnny interrupted the boy. "We're better off without him. It's time for us to take care of our own business. We'll find another girl, don't worry. We have Syd. With her, there's not way we won't win the girls division. Now start running."
Miguel nodded curtly and jogged away, meeting up with sydney who was walking around scrolling on her on her phones. "Hey, you find new recruits yet?"
She looked up from her phone. "What? Oh! Sorry, I was looking at these cute chanel purses that I want."
Miguel stared at her for a second and then chuckled under his breath.
Tory walked into the Cobra Kai dojo angrily, her nostrils flaring. Robby noticed her red face from across the room and walked across the mat. "You good?"
"I'm fine," Tory dismissed and avoided eye contact with him.
Robby looked at her in concern. "Are you sure?"
"I need to change." She ignored him and pushed past him, hurrying into the bathroom. She quickly locked the door behind her and dropped her bag onto the floor. Sucking in huge breaths, Tory leaned against the sink and dug her nails into the stone.
She didn't want to be here. She didn't want to see anyone. She wanted to lock herself in her house and never leave. Life changing events were coming soon and Tory didn't know how to prepare herself for them. Her mom was dying, her little brother was too young to understand, she had to work three jobs to pay the bills and she could barely pay them on time. Through it all, she was a high school drop out with a criminal record. This isn't what she wanted for her life. All she had to blame was herself.
Her eyes began to water in frustration and regret. She sucked in a breath through her nose and felt her throat start to burn. She had all this built up anger inside her and she didn't know how to deal with it properly. The worst thing about it was she couldn't tell anyone what was going on in her life because they would understand.
Then, Tory started to think about Sydney and it made her cry more. Out of all the people she knew, including Charlie, Sydney was the only person that understood her. Truly understood her. Tory confided in her more than anybody else.
Their friendship was different. It was special. They were like sisters until Tory ruined it. She ruined everything and nothing would ever be same.
More tears fell.
Sydney followed Miguel and Johnny to the track outside of the school. All the girl's were outside with their teams, practicing. "This is it. This is where most the girls' teams practice," Miguel informed.
"What exactly is your plan?" Sydney asked, arching one of her brows.
"I already told you. I'm just gonna walk around and advertise," Johnny explained.
"You sure you'll be able to convince them?" Miguel asked.
"Please, when I went to this school, the only thing I was better at than karate, and I was pretty good at karate, was talking to chicks,"
"Yeah. . . that was what, thirty years ago? Johnny, they're teenage girls. You can't exactly work your 'charm' on them," Sydney informed, adding air quotes.
Miguel pointed at her. "Yeah, she's gotta point."
Johnny dismissed them. "Watch and learn, kids. Watch and learn."
He jogged off to his first victim and left the couple standing in place. Sydney crossed her arms. "Think this will end badly?"
"Oh yeah."
Sydney watched in embarrassment as Johnny ran with the girls on the track, trying to give them fliers to the dojo. She could see the fear on their faces and they ran quicker to get away from him. She hid her face in her hands, shaking her head.
"What the hell did you say?" she asked when he approached her again.
"Uh. . ." he started. "I might've said something about being under 18."
Sydney's eye twitched and she walked away, feeling annoyed.
Johnny went from talking to a group of soccer players sitting on the benches to the girls who were practicing lacrosse on the field. They handed him back the flyers and quickly left.
Sydney rolled her eyes so heavily she thought they would get stuck in the back of her head. "I can feel my will to live slowly slipping away,"
"C'mon, it's not that bad," Miguel said in denial.
Sydney looked at him like he was crazy. "He's going to end up on the 10 most wanted list for child predatory."
After getting rejected by another girl, Johnny made his way back to them.
"Well?" Sydney questioned.
"I have another idea," he started. He looked between the couple. "You're probably not going to like it."
Sydney and Miguel shared a confused look.
"Absolutely not."
"Oh, come on, Frenchy," Johnny replied and proceeded to pour oil into Miguel's hands.
"I'm not letting you use my boyfriend to get girls to join your stupid dojo," she exclaimed and crossed her arms.
"Hey, for one, you're apart of that stupid dojo. Two, we don't have another option," the man argued and poured more oil in Miguel's hands.
"Hey, hey, too much!" Miguel complained.
"You gotta get into every groove. It's about molding highlights to emphasize curvature," Johnny educated.
"I'm going to kill you both," Sydney glared.
"Ah, come on, babe. It's for the dojo," Miguel tried to convince her.
She stared at him with narrow eyes.
He stared back and gave her puppy eyes, knowing she couldn't resist them.
Johnny looked between them awkwardly and decided not to get in the middle.
Finally, Sydney rolled her eyes. "Fine. I'll be over there."
She stormed off and sat on the nearby bench. She watched in difficulty and mortification as Johnny went up to more of the girls and showed off Miguel, who flexed his muscles that glistened from the oil. She rolled her eyes in annoyance.
"And the best part is we have a whole stable of hot young dudes like my man Miguel over here," Johnny adverted to another girl.
Miguel flexed his muscles and kissed them, trying to act seductive.
Sydney dug her nails into the palms over her hands.
"Like what you see? He's not even in the top five," Johnny continued.
"He's the only one in the category," Sydney mumbled.
"We got babes and everything. Whatever floats your boat. We even have Sydney. She's a total babe," Johnny continued and pointed to Sydney. "She's French and British. Nothing gets better than that."
"I'm asexual," the girl said awkwardly.
"All right, he's a sexual too. So is she! Check him out. Total stud."
Sydney slowly put her face in her hand, groaning. Miguel came and stood in front of her, smirking. Sydney looked up at him and saw that he had his muscles flexed. "Hey girl, can I get your number?"
"tu peux me faire fourrer le pied dans le cul," she said in French while leaning her chin on the palm of her hand. you can get my foot shoved up your ass.
"What does that mean?"
She smirked. "It means you look hot."
Miguel went red and smiled sheepishly. "Why, thank you."
Sydney stood up from the bench. "I you ever do that again, I'll stab you in the eye with my shoes."
His smile dropped quickly and he nodded with wide eyes.
She smirked again and kissed his cheek.
I'm so sorry for the long awaited update!!! I've been getting bored with writing and switched to reading actual books for a while. It's actually very good for gaining inspiration!
