Chapter Forty Six
primadonna
"OW!"
Sydney snorted loudly when Miguel fell face first on the floor. "I told you to tighten your legs!"
"I'm not doing that." Miguel groaned.
The couple was currently in the dance studio with courtesy of Rosemary.
"Come on, try again," Sydney urged.
Miguel groaned again and got up from the floor. "This is so stupid,"
"You promised me that if I joined karate, you would let me teach you how to dance," she reminded and sat her hands on her hips.
Miguel pouted. "But this is hard. You make it look so easy."
"Years and years of practice, love," she smiled proudly. "Now come on, watch me again."
Miguel huffed.
Sydney stood in the middle and took it a breath. She did a sequence of turns, each time her leg grew higher and higher. She moved so swiftly and smoothly.
Miguel smiled as he watched her. He loved watching her dance. She was always so concentrated. She wanted to be perfect. She made everything look so easy. Miguel was jealous, though he wouldn't admit it.
She finished the spins and lifted her hands slowly in the air.
Miguel clapped. "Beautiful as always,"
"Thank you," she smiled. "Now you try."
"Babe, I don't even think I can get my leg up that high," he complained.
Sydney breathed out a chuckle. "You're such a baby,"
"I am not!" he pouted again.
"Okay, I have an idea," she said. Sshe walked over to her phone and typed in Can I Have This Dance? from High School Musical 3. They had watched the movie a hundred times together and the scene was Sydney's favorite.
Miguel laughed cutely when he heard the music. "Really?"
"Really," she smirked. "Take my hand, take a breath,"
Miguel grabbed her hand and playfully sucked in a deep breath making her giggle.
"Pull me close and take one step," she sang along with Vanessa Hudgens. She stepped backwards and Miguel stepped forward. "Keep your eyes locked on mine and let the music be your guide,"
They locked hands and his other hand wrapped around her waist. She laid hers on his shoulder and started leading him around.
"Now won't you promise me," he sang horribly.
She chuckled. "Now won't you promise me that you'll never forget to keep dancing wherever we go next,"
"It's like caching lightning, the chances of finding someone like you," they sang together and Miguel attempted to lift her like Troy lifted Gabriella. He struggled but they laughed anyway. "It's one in a million, the chances of feeling the way we do,"
He spun her around and pulled her close to him. "And with every step together, we just keep on getting better."
She smiled brightly at him and they waltzed around the room.
"So can I have this dance? Can I have this dance?"
Sydney didn't even care that Miguel was a terrible dancer. She didn't care that he often stepped on her toes. She didn't care that he had no rhythm. She was having fun. Miguel was her breath of fresh air. He knew exactly how to make her feel better and to relieve her stress. He was goofy and charismatic. He made her laugh so easily. He brought of a side of her that not a lot of people have seen. She smiled more when she was around him.
Miguel lifted her up into a bridal style positioned and spun then around, making them laugh loudly together. She leaned her head back and laughed with a large smile.
"Let it rain, let it pour, what we have is worth fighting for," they sang together and she took his hands, attempting to spin him but their arms got tangled together. "You know I believe that we were meant to be."
"It's like catching lightning, the chances of finding someone like you," they waltzed around the room again. Miguel nearly tripped over his own foot but Sydney quickly caught him. "It's one in a million, the chances of feeling the way we do."
Miguel spun her around again so that her back was against his chest. He wrapped his arms around her waist. "And with every step together we just keep on getting better."
Sydney spun back around and he kept his arms locked around her waist. He spun them around and she titled her head back, spreading her arms out.
"So can I have this dance? Can I have this dance?"
The song ended and Miguel let out a giant huff. "Holy shit, my sides are killing me,"
Sydney snorted and wrapped her arms around his shoulders.
He smiled down at her. "Was that bad?"
She smiled with her eyes. "Bo. Definitely not."
He cupped her face in his hands and kissed her. "Not gonna lie, I've had dreams about that,"
She laughed again. "Wanna do it again?"
"Maybe another time when I can feel my legs." he said and kissed her again.

I was watching High School Musical: Senior Year and I couldn't not take the opportunity to write this. It would be criminal
The vision I had in my head is Miguel dancing to Can I Have This Dance? horribly and Sydney doing it perfectly but not correcting him 🥺
