Chapter Eighty Five
Primadonna
SUDDEN FLASHES OF the school fight came and went from Sydney's mind. As she stumbled into people while trying to fight the Cobra Kai's off, the large group was closing in, and she remembered how she felt when she got caught in the crossfire. All the pain that Cobra Kai brought in. The suffering they were all out through because of it. It made her angry and when Sydney was angry, nobody was safe. Releasing a loud grunt, she bent a boy's arm behind his back and kicked his legs out from under him. He fell to the ground with a painful yell. Then, she blocked the hit of another boy coming at her and she grunted again. She spun around with his fist in her hand and she kicked her foot back into his knee cap. When he doubled over, she turned around and kicked him across the face.
Breathing in and out deeply, she looked around at the chaos that surrounded. She saw her friends scattered around, some of them struggling but she knew she couldn't help all of them at once. Her brain rattled in her head, making her feel dizzy. She suddenly saw Devon stuck out in the crowd and they looked at one another. The newly claimed Cobra Kai glared and ran her way.
Devon came in swinging. Sydney raised her fist and dodged all of her hits while stepping back. "How's you foot?" The young girl questioned with no remorse. It was just bitter.
"It's fine. I got thick skin." Sydney responded with a grunt and she kicked her in the stomach.
Devon quickly recovered and lunged forward again with her fists. The Brit ducked down and switched to the other side. "Y'know, you talk a lot about traitors when you're the one who left us. You're a great fighter, Devon. You can be the future All Valley champion with us."
Devon scoffed. "I don't need you. I have Cobra Kai. They make me a better fighter."
She blocked another punch. "No. Not because of Cobra Kai. Because of Johnny. Why did you leave?" She spun around and kicked at her.
Devon hit her leg with her hand and she swung her arm around, hitting her in the face. "I don't have to explain myself to you."
Sydney stood there, feeling shocked, and she popped her jaw, rubbing it with her hand. She felt angry again. As Devon glared at her, breathing heavy, Sydney sucked in a large breath and raised her fists again. With a loud yell, Devon charged forward and the older girl did a spin kick, kicking her across the face and she fell to the ground. Sydney stood over her. "I think you forgot I was supposed to be the All Valley champion."
She raised her head and spotted one of the boys from Cobra Kai fighting Miguel. She felt another level of anger rise in her when he held his arm behind his back. She ran up and kicked him in the ribs with a loud yell, causing him to let go of Miguel and she hit him in the face.
With wide eyes, Miguel looked her way. "Are you okay?" She asked whild breathing heavily.
"Yeah. Yeah. Totally." He replied swiftly. "Thank you."
She managed to smile at him. "Always."
From across the dojo, Miguel saw Kenny and Robby fighting each other. Then, she saw the kid pull the same move on him that he did on Hawk. "Robby!"
Sydney quickly looked and saw a couple of Cobra Kias ganging up on Robby. "Go, go, go!" She urged him and hit him on the arm.
While they were fighting them off, Sydney ran through everybody and made her way upstairs to check on Eli and Demetri. When she ran into the room, she saw a handle full of boys from Cobra Kai scattered on the ground. "Whoa, hello." She spoke out loud.
Demetri swung around and faced her. "Man, that felt good!" He pointed at Kyler. "Bitch!"
"I'm so proud of you right now!" She squealed and held up her hands.
He quickly high fived her while Eli managed to get the video to start downloading. "We got it. All right. It's uploading to Cobra Kai's channel." He announced to them. "Let's get the hell out of here."
Sydney felt someone tug on her shoulder from behind her and she turned to see one of the Kyler's followers. "Hey, this is Chanel!" She shouted and grabbed his wrist. She elbowed him in the rib and swung him around by his arm. She kicked him in the face and he went flying into the wall.
After fighting off the rest, Eli looked her way. "Come on!" He yelled and they quickly ran out of the room with the tablet.
Caroline didn't know how her night went from having a great night at a club to now being in the middle of karate drama. She sat cramped in the backseat with Alex, Carmen, and Amanda while Daniel sat up front with Raymond. "Mr. L, I'm so sorry I lied to you. I just wanted to be back in Cobra Kai. I don't think anyone else would get hurt." Stingray apologized while speeding down the road. "Well, besides me."
"Look, you're doing the right thing now. That's all that matters." Daniel told him.
"I mean, when I got that text from Cobra Kai saying they were going to ambush your kids, I knew I had to tell you." He continued.
"I'm gonna kill these Cobra Kai shitheads." Alexander cursed. His eye was black and he had a split lip from his brief fight with Barnes. And Johnny's fist by accident.
"Alex!" Caroline warned. When Raymond made another sharp turn, she flinch. "Okay, hey. Pregnant lady back here. Watch where you're going."
None of them were able to get ahold of their kids. Caroline called Sydney over and over again but there was no answer. Alexander tried as well and he got more and more worried each time it went to voicemail because his daughter always answered his calls. "This is bad. Syd always answers when we call her."
"Don't worry, Mr. Sydney's bad." Said Raymond and he put on a pair of sunglasses. He started to drive faster.
They looked at him weirdly. "What are you doing? It's pitch black?" Asked Daniel.
"Stingrays see better at night."
Caroline blinked rapidly. When he pressed harder on the gas, she put her hand over Carmen's belly. "Okay, again. Pregnant woman back here!"
Sydney found herself fighting one of the girls from Cobra Kai. She found it to be pretty easy until suddenly, she felt around wrap around her neck and drag her back. She was unable to catch her breath as she struggled against the hold of the same boy she fought upstairs. The girl in front of her kicked her in the stomach. Groaning from the pain, Sydney flinched again when she got hit in the face. She felt her nose crack and blood came falling down.
"Sydney!" Miguel called out when he saw.
"I got her!" Charlie hollered and ran forward. Coming up behind the guy, Charlie kicked him in the middle of his back and he went forward. His arms loosened form the girl. While Sydney was fighting the girl from Cobra Kai, the other guy turned around ready to fight but Charlie swung his large arms at him. He leaned back on his leg and kicked him in the face, his nose breaking from the force.
When she was able to get rid of the girl, Sydney spotted Tory and Sam against Sensei Kim. She didn't much about the female Sensei, but what she did know was that she was a strong fighter. And a dirty one. While she flipped Tory over on the mat and kicked Sam in the stomach with her foot, taking both of the girl's down, Sydney went to help them out. But she stopped when Devon came running and she stood in front of her Sensei.
"Lee, do not let Nichols cloud your judgement." Kim warned her. "You are the future of this dojo. Not her. You can be a champion. Do not throw that away."
The young girl glanced at Tory; who was watching the interaction intently. Then, she looked over her shoulder and saw Sydney standing there, ready to jump in at any moment. A shot of realization came to her mind. She faced Kim again. "Oh, I will be a champion. But I'll get there my way, not yours." She looked over at Sam. "Go. Save your brother. We got this."
Sam hesitated but she quickly went to go help Anthony. Sydney sent the young girl a proud smile and left her and Tory to take care of Kim. She kicked one of the Cobra Kai boys that had a hold of Robby in the ribs.
"Ninety percent!" Anthony called out.
"We're not gonna be able to hold 'em much longer!" Said Robby.
"There's too many of them!" Miguel grunted.
"Ninety five!"
"Just hold on a little longer!" Sydney hollered and she did a spin kick, kicking a boy in the face.
Finally, the video uploaded to a hundred percent and Anthony smiled. He linked the video to the large tv in the dojo. "Ais!"
"Ais!"
"They're trapped. Don't let 'em out!" Kenny ordered the people around him.
"Come on, you little gremlin!" Charlie huffed.
Everybody stopped fighting when video started playing. "I need to talk to you," Tory said in the video.
"Nichols. What's on your mind?" Silver had asked her. "Excited to take things to the next level?"
The kids in Cobra Kai looked confused. They glanced at one another.
"What's the point? You'll just pay to make me champion again."
"So you know about the ref. Have you told anyone else?"
"Not yet. So you don't deny it?"
"Not at all. I paid him off to make sure Cobra Kai won." Silver admitted.
Betrayal was written on Kenny's face. He looked back at Robby, who met his gaze as looked apologetic.
"It was an insurance policy. You still won the fight."
"That win was supposed to go to Sydney. She deserved it."
"She deserved nothing. She showed weakness. Weakness doesn't win fights."
"She's going to hate me forever. All because of you."
Sydney's stomach turned painfully as she watched. She didn't even realize that her dad had showed up. She wiped the blood that had dripped from her nose. She looked over at Tory then at Devon. The young girl looked confused and also guilty.
"That's it?" Everyone turned their heads and saw a bloody faced Silver. "That was your big plan, Larusso?" He said to Daniel. "Breaking into my dojo. To steal some footage that changes nothing?"
Everyone back away. Sydney grabbed Miguel's hand and stood close to him.
"It wasn't his plan. It was ours." Tory stepped in with Robby by her side.
"And it changes everything." He stated.
Silver stared at them with a hard expression. Then, he turned to his team. "Our enemies think they can keep attacking us with no repercussions. And what does the enemy deserve?" He waited for an answer but didn't receive one. When he realized they weren't going to listen to him, he continued. "You think I'm the only one willing to go to these lengths?" He pointed to the other team. "Their Senseis broke into my home tonight."
Sydney looked over at dad and saw his bruised eye and lip.
"My home!" He raised his voice. "Attacked me, unprovoked. But here I am. The only one left standing. They think they're entitled to victory because their way is 'right' and our way is 'wrong'. But that's not how it works. There are no morals to the story, no happy endings. Life isn't a fairy tale. It's a competitive sport. Right and wrong, there's no such thing. There are only winners. . . and losers.
Cobra Kai builds winners because we're willing to do whatever it takes to come out on top."
"That includes teaching kids that's it's okay to start a fight whenever they want? That they can almost kill someone to win? That it's okay to cheat?" Alex spoke bitterly.
"Alex, don't get involved. Please." Caroline pleaded from where she was standing with Carmen and Amanda.
Silver only responded with a bitter laugh. "Whatever it takes, Alexander." He looked at Daniel again. "Everything you did to try and stop me amounted to nothing but pain. "You got your ass kicked, Danny-boy. Now, you can either accept that. . . or I can kick it again right now."
Mr. Larusso stayed quiet as he listened to the man ramble on. At the threat, Amanda stepped forward and stood by his side. "We're all with you, Daniel." She encouraged. "Do what you have to do."
"Kick his ass, Dan." Alexander added in.
Caroline, who tried to stay out of it, spoke up. "Yeah!"
Daniel walked toward Silver and everyone else backed up even more off the mat. Sydney let go of Miguel's hand and went to stand with her parents. "Dad, why is your eye bruised?"
"Uhh. . . long sorry. Tell you later." He stated.
She leaned into him and he wrapped his arm around her. They watched as Daniel and Silver circled each other. "First, I took care of Chozen. Now you. This is where Miyagi Do ends."
Daniel remained unfazed. "Miyagi Do existed before any of us. It'll be around long after we're gone. The roots are strong so the tree will survive." He declared.
"Hell yeah." Charlie slipped out with an excited grin.
Silver swung first and Daniel blocked his sloppy hits. Kicking his long leg, Mr. Larusso ducked and hit him across the face. Silver fell to the mat.
"Get him, Mr. L." Sydney said to herself and tightened her grip around her father.
Silver lunged at him again but Daniel's move were quicker and sharper. Taking a hold of Silver's arm, he twisted it and spun around, striking him in the side. Silver groaned and fell to the mat with Daniel still hiding his wrist. With his other hand free, Silver took the chance to try and hit him but Daniel stopped it with his leg. Yelling, he punched Silver in the face.
"Yes!" Charlie said loudly, causing Sam to jump.
Silver stood back up and stared at Daniel like a crazy man. Everyone watched the fight intensely until Daniel got Silver to back up into the wall where all the trophy's were. As he grabbed one of the trophy's and was going to use it against Daniel, Mr. Larusso did his crane kick and Silver fell backwards again, causing the glass to shatter.
"Yeah!" Alex hollered and Benoist family exhaled with relief that he had won.
Sydney felt sad as she watched Kenny take off his Cobra Kai shirt and throw it at Silver. As much as he had changed for the worse, he was still a kid who got manipulated by an adult. He finally understood what Robby was trying to tell him.
In a line, the students of Cobra Kai threw their shirts at Silver. Sydney stepped away from her parents and went up to Devon, who looked extremely disappointed. "Hey." She spoke.
"Hey."
"I'm really sorry. I know he made you all these promises and probably made you feel better than you ever have. I know it's sucks to be lied to. You don't deserve that." She said softly.
Devon nodded slightly and gave her a small, tight lipped smile. "You really think I can be champion?" She repeated what she told her earlier.
She scoffed. "Are you kidding? You could take over the karate world with the moves you got, kid."
The young girl's smile grew. "Thanks, Sydney. And I'm sorry, too. You were right."
"I usually am."
They laughed and Sydney pulled her into a hug.
Sydney rubbed her sore nose and pressed the cloth the paramedic gave her to it. The bleeding had stopped but now she was starting to feel how sore she was. She watched as the former kids of Cobra Kai have conversations with the kids from her dojo. She felt like a weight was lifted off of her. This is what sports were about. Bringing people together. Not to hurt people. It made her remember why she joined in the first place.
Sydney watched Robby try to talk to Kenny, who was by himself, but the boy was still upset. He had a right to be. She walked up and placed a hand on his back. "He'll come around. Don't worry. He's just upset."
Robby was frowning. "I know. It sucks. I saw it worked out for you and Devon, though."
"Yeah, well, that girl knows who she is. She's kinda like me, I think." She responded with a light smile. She briefly placed a hand on the side of his face. "Now, go take care of your woman. She's been through hell."
Robby's frown lifted into a shy grin and he nodded. He went to talk to Tory and she watched with a happy smile. She watched her mom take care of her dad while lecturing him and then she watched Charlie comfort Sam. She realized there was something missing.
Her missing puzzle piece came and stood by her side. "Hey there," he announced himself with his hands on his pockets.
Sydney smiled at him. "Hey, you."
He examined her bruised nose and the blood on her clothes. "How are you feeling?" He asked and pointed to her nose.
She dropped the bloody cloth. "Oh, I'm grand. Not sure if blood comes out of Chanel, though. My nose hurts more than anything."
Miguel chuckled. "You did really good in there, though. You don't need an All Valley trophy to prove you're a champion. You're my champion."
She smiled warmly, stars in her eyes. "I guess we should unpause that conversation, huh?"
"That would be nice."
She chuckled. "Okay." She stepped forward and cupped his face. "Miguel Diaz, I never, ever want to see you kiss anybody else. Because I'm so in love with you, too. You're everything to me and more. I thought that after we broke up that it was the end. It scared the piss out of me. But I think it only made me realize how much I don't want to lose you again. I love you so much, Diaz."
Miguel brought his hands up and pressed them to her face as well, squishing her cheeks slightly, making her giggle. "We've come a long way from you calling me Michael." He brought up.
She laughed again. "And teaching you how to say my last name correctly in your room."
"Yeah, my French is pretty good now." He stated with a confident smirk.
She raised her brows. "Oh, yeah? Alors dis-moi, Diaz. Tu veux que je revienne?" So tell me, Diaz. You want me back?
Miguel kept the smirk on his face and leaned down, kissing her softly. She melted into him, wrapping her arms around his neck and she pulled him close like their bodies were made to fit one another's. It was perfect. Their love was theirs. It was written in the stars. The kind that people write songs about. Pulling back slightly, Miguel looked at her and smiled. "Duh, I want you back. Who wouldn't?"
With loud and heartfelt giggle, Sydney quickly kissed him again and hugged him tightly, hiding her face in his neck. Miguel picked up her and spun her around, laughing along with her. He'd been waiting for this moment for so long and now he finally got it, and he didn't plan on ever letting her go again. He sat her down. "I guess now would be a great time to give you this." He said and reached into the pocket of his flannel.
Sydney watched him pull out a piece of paper. She felt confused until she saw what it really was. It was a paper ring. It was simple white paper with another piece wrapped around it to mimic a diamond. She felt as if she would melt into a puddle on the ground. "Wow." She uttered and took it from him. She examined it. "You made this?"
He shrugged slightly. "I know you're an expensive lady, but, you also like the small things. I knew whatever I gave you, real or not real, you'd love it the same."
She looked at him again with starry eyes. She nodded quickly. "You're right. I love everything you give to me." She slipped the paper ring on her finger and she laughed when it fit perfectly. "Wow. You really know me, huh?"
"I sure do." He replied with confidence. "I love you."
"I love you more, Miguel Diaz." She said back and pulled him in for another kiss.
Did I publish the last chapter on the same day as the 1989 (Taylor's Version) release date on purpose? Yes, yes I did because Sydney's my favorite Swiftie
When I first started writing Primadonna, I had no idea that it would blow up like it has. I just knew that I loved Miguel and that he deserved more attention. And now almost two years later, I've received so much love and support. I can truthfully say that I love all of my readers and supporters and I can't wait to see you guys again in season 6!!
Sydney represents everyone who has deep rooted anxiety and it causes them to think they don't deserve to be loved. When I first created her, I was stumped on how I was going to make you guys love her in the long run and I'm complete shock on how many of you guys love her and can relate to her. I hold her close to my heart. Thank you to everyone who's supported Primadonna for so long xoxoxo. See you next season!
