23 - Betrayal
The world around her was fuzzy. Each time her eyes would open, she would close them back again as the pain at the back of her neck and head was still aching. She let out a groan when she tried to stand back up. However, once she managed to get on her knees, the woman was pushed back down by a strong force on her back. She whimpered, trying to get away from whatever was holding her down. She turned around to see a feminine figure, her face hidden by a hood and face mask. The feminine figure put more strength in her foot, making [F/n] wince in pain.
"Get the fuck off of me, asshole!" The agent desperately cried out.
The laugh that came out of this woman was.. very familiar. Too familiar. "And why would I do that?" The voice too.
She let out a sigh as she knew she could not get away from this situation that easily. "What do you want from me?"
She took her foot off of her and kicked [F/n] in the stomach, sending her flying across the room. The agent crashed on a desk and cried out. She collapsed on the floor loudly again and struggled to get up again.
"I have been waiting for this moment... I can finally kill you and bury your body so no one can find you."
[A/n] lifted her head up towards the figure that was growing closer and closer. Her face was revealed as she got in front of the only source of light in the room.
Before [A/n] stood herself.
"Why do you hate me so much?" The agent asked.
The mirror scoffed before letting out a hysterical laugh. "Are you really asking this question? Are you living so much into this dreamlife that you forgot about much you hated yourself?!" [A/n]'s gaze turned into a heavy frown as she listened to whatever her double had to say. "You're so much better than me, [F/n]. You've got friends, a lover, and people that actually care about you... And you escaped your nightmares. Why can't I have the same?"
[A/n] got on her feet and looked at her double with an annoyed face. "I don't know and I don't care about your little problems. Go take care of your own shit and fuck off!"
The mirror did not seem happy about her answer. "I won't let a piece of shit like you live another day."
Her double launched herself forward, fist up in the air. [A/n] easily avoided it and retaliated by hitting her face with her elbow. Mirror [A/n] groaned in pain, holding her face. Her eyes were burning with an anger that she had never seen before. Did she have the same eyes before the protocol when she looked at her own self in hatred in the mirror? Loathing was the only visible trait that animated this person. However, [F/n] did not leave her time to move. She quickly ran towards her again to land another hit to hopefully knock her out.
BANG
A loud noise echoed in the room. The two women froze as a bullet passed right between them. That sound was familiar to both of them. [F/n] turned around to face the third person that joined this fight. To the other side of the room stood the most narcissistic agent of the protocol with his short brown hair on top of his head that was perfectly slicked back and his brown eyes that were framed behind thick black-framed glasses. The French man was holding his sniper, aiming down at both of them.
"Chamber!" They both said at the same time. Their gazes met again, gritting their teeth at each other.
"[F/n], stop that. You'll get caught if you stay there."
[A/n] stared at him with a frown. Why would he... No. It was not her Chamber... She could tell. It was Omega's. "Fuck off, Chamber! I'm not going back!"
"I am not leaving you behind! We need to leave before the other comes!" He shouted back at her. Chamber did not seem like a man who shouted often. He always made sure to appear calm and collected, his fake smile emphasizing a falsely friendly nature that no one actually trusted in the protocol. "They are close! You won't get out alive!"
"And why does it matter to you?!" She snapped and turned to go back to the fight. She jumped forward and raised her knee which made contact with [A/n]'s face. The latter's nose started bleeding and she took a few steps back to recompose herself. She was about to get back at her double for that but again Omega Chamber stopped her with a shot at her feet.
"Don't touch her." He warned her with a deep threatening voice.
[F/n] clicked her tongue. "You're both a fucking pain in my ass." She wiped the blood away from her nose and glanced back and forth between the two. She was surrounded. One had his scope on her, ready to fire anytime, the other was in front of her, ready to pounce to unleash her claws and dig them into her skin. What was the best thing she could do?
"Any last words?" Her double wanted to humour her, a sinister smirk on her face as she moved closer.
With a sigh, she raised her hands in surrender. It seemed to take the other by surprise, who stopped moving for a moment. "Alright. My last words?" She hummed, eyes looking around the room. "Au revoir."
Before the two Omega versions of themselves could react, [A/n] had disappeared. They were both on edge, looking around the room for any sign of movement or sound. Nothing came. And before they knew it, [A/n]'s double noticed the open door.
"You lost her," a third voice exclaimed. It was a female voice with a Turkish accent. "You had one job and you failed." She sounded annoyed, venom in her voice. From her arms, black smoke and filaments covered parts of her body. "You'll be the ones living the nightmare now."
A loud scream and swearing could be heard from outside. [F/n] was exhausted so her camouflage did not last long, but it was enough to create some distance between her and her assailants. She made a run for it, trying to find her way out of this old building. A ray of sunshine came through the opening of a door. Her way out.
The woman burst through the door and was relieved to see the overgrown vegetations on the floor again. A sigh of relief washed over you.
However it was too soon.
Something cold and metallic was pressed against the back of her head. Without needing to be asked, she had her arms raised up in surrender. A gun. How did she not detect them? She really was tired.
"Which one are you?" A familiar male voice spoke up.
"Depends on which Chamber is asking," she said back, not daring to move. She knew Chamber well enough to know you were dead the moment he had you at gunpoint.
"Which?" He repeated, surprise lacing his voice. "My double is here? That is.. complicated."
Relief washed over the woman. "That means you're my Chamber... Vincent, it'd me. Your girlfriend."
"And how can I trust you?" The man pressed on. "You may look like ma chérie but I know the other is around."
"Vincent. If you don't lower your fucking gun, I'll beat your ass right now."
The threats were all he needed. He lowered his gun and threw his arms around her instead. "Chérie..! I was so worried! What happened? We have looked everywhere for you." He went on and on about how worried he was and sometimes he spoke French for a moment before realizing she could not understand a word.
"Chamber," a robotic voice came through the man's comm. "Intel?"
Chamber regained his composure once more, clearing his voice before he spoke up. "Affirmative, robot friend. [A/n] I'd with me as we speak. Our [A/n]. We're coming to you for extraction."
"Copy. Don't run into anymore trouble." And he cut the communication to head back to the ship.
Now that they were alone, Chamber offered his hand to hold. He did not mind if others saw usually but he preferred to not show personal affection out on the field. However, he needed to feel her. Feel her warmth and gentle hold while they walked side by side.
It was then he realized how hard he fell for her. Nothing could compare the strong bonds the two shared. She was his ray of sunshine, his coffee addict, his ball of anger, and his everything. And he was her constant headache, her sweet talker, her wine addict, and her everything.
Despite their respective secrets, their dark past and future, they had each other.
He would do everything to protect her.
She would do everything to protect him.
They are a part of one another now.
Let's hope it continues that way.

Heeeeeey...!
Um... What excuse should I come up with this time? *Sweating*
Well, in all seriousness, sorry life was busy. Very busy. And I went through a massive block and couldn't get myself to write.
I'm slowly getting back to it. Very slowly but I'm still not exactly satisfied with myself.
Other than my sad little life lol (not really sad, I'm just being a drama queen), I will finish this story. We have about three chapters left before the conclusion. I kept you waiting for long and I'm sorry but I will do my best to finish this. I promise!
Thank you to anyone who is still willing to read this. This chapter is shorter but I will do better next time!
