20- Leisure
"Thank you again for the other day, [F/n]," Chamber said with a smile. He had his arms around her shoulders, holding her close to him in bed.
[A/n] hummed, running her hands on his naked chest. "It was quite stressful. You better make up for that," she joked, laughing a bit.
Vincent kissed the top of her head. "I already planned on doing that."
[F/n] looked up at him, kissing his cheek. "You don't have to. I'm helping you because I want to."
"I know, but it's a good excuse for me to take you out on a date," the French agent admitted, placing a hand on her cheek. "I've been wanting to dress you up for a while you know."
The woman whined, hiding her face in the crook of his neck. "Vincent..."
"You can't escape me now, [F/n]." He chuckled, caging her in his arms. He ignored her grumble noises and tried to think of what he was going to buy for her, what colors would fit her, and so on. He was very excited to bring her along with him for this.
"Don't buy anything too expensive then, or too flashy."
"I promise, mon amour," he said, kissing the top of her head.
The next day, the two of them went out to a shopping mall. They had the whole day off so they could relax without being stressed over the time. Chamber dragged [A/n] out of bed quite early so they would have time to do everything he had planned. The female agent grumbled, hating him for that, but she followed him - his excitement was adorable making it bearable. Chamber drove her there, putting on music on their way that they both enjoyed. It was sunny and warm on this day, the sky blessing their date. Everything was set perfectly. Nothing could go wrong.
"Let me get you to a café first, mon amour. You need to eat something to have enough energy for the whole day," Chamber said as he opened the door of his car for her.
[A/n] nodded her head, stepping out of the vehicle. "Sure, thanks, Vincent."
The tall man extended a hand to her with a grin. "If my lady would like to follow me then," he cooed, looking down lovingly at her.
She chuckled, taking his hand. "Lead the way, my gentleman," she joked, grinning back at him.
Chamber led her to a small and cozy café. They were the only people in at the moment along with a woman sitting far in the room. [F/n]'s eyes lingered on the decorations then, on this woman. Without realizing it, she stared at her, strangely entranced by them. She frowned, trying to see who it was. She felt... familiar.
"[F/n]!" Chamber's voice suddenly brought her back to reality. She looked back at him, eyes wide open. "Are you alright?"
"Yes, sorry, I was just staring..." She looked back to where the woman was but there was no one. Did she imagine everything? "Sorry, I was spacing out."
Her boyfriend looked at her worryingly, rubbing her cheek with his thumb. "Maybe I should have let you sleep a bit more."
She nudged him, dragging him to a table. "It's too late for regrets, Fancy pants. Get me food to make it up."
Vincent was a bit surprised by her attitude but let out a chuckle when he was dragged out to the table. They both sat down and looked down at the menu together. While waiting for the waiter, they debated the best food on the menu and shared their favorite meals. Their conversation was quite lively as they spent maybe five to ten minutes on how mushrooms were disgusting for [A/n] while Chamber insisted that he would make her like it eventually. The waiter came back with their order, holding back a laugh to not be rude but they found their bickering funny and adorable at the same time.
The camouflage agent sighed happily, her stomach full. "That was great," she hummed happily, walking out of the café while holding her boyfriend's hand. "So, where are you taking me first?"
Chamber had a permanent grin on his face. He enjoyed her liveliness and melted each time she would look at him with that sweet smile of hers. "We're going to this shop, mon amour," he answered as he pointed to a clothing shop around the corner. He saw her smile turning into an adorable pout which made him chuckle.
The woman kept complaining while they walked around the shop but Vincent did not care. He looked through each aisle, picking up a few articles of clothing that could fit her. The man was in his environment, navigating around the shop like he owned the place and analyzing each item like he was an expert. He caught everyone's eyes even though he was only moving around and his girlfriend was louder than he was. He was not wearing anything too fancy today. He had smoky beige pants with a black turtleneck top and a brown long coat that was reaching his knees. He was outstanding like always but in a more casual way. On the other side, [A/n] wore something as simple as ever; a plain shirt along with jeans and a jacket to cover her shoulders as the wind was still a bit chilly. Chamber did not dress her up this morning as he had planned to do it all day long already.
By the time he finished exploring around, his arms were filled with different types of clothes. [A/n] stared at the pile in horror and looked back at him. "I'm not trying all this."
"Oh, you are, ma chérie," he hummed, pushing her towards the changing rooms. He put all the items on the chair in the room and closed the curtains with a smile.
[F/n] groaned in annoyance, taking one of the articles of clothing and looking at it intensely, then her eyes shifted back to the pile and she let out a sigh. "It's going to take all day," she mumbled to herself.
After looking at herself in the mirror for a good minute, she opened shyly the curtain, hiding her body behind it. Chamber raised his head excitingly when he saw her head pop out. The man extended his arms towards her, gesturing for her to come out. Slowly, the female agent pushed the curtain out of the way and walked toward him. Vincent's smile widened as his eyes traveled up and down her body. [A/n]'s cheeks turned red as she stood before him, waiting for his feedback.
Putting his hands on her hips while staying seated on the small couch, Chamber stared up at her. "You look stunning." His voice was soft and sincere like she never heard before. He rubbed her hips with his thumbs, tracing small circles.
[F/n] looked away, staring at the ground. "It feels weird... I'm not used to it," she said quietly, placing her hands on his shoulders.
This made the man chuckle. "You'll have to get used to it at some point, mon ange," he continued in a soft and sweet voice. The woman was even more flustered now. Did he plan to dress her up throughout their whole relationship? "Now," he started again, taking one of her hands and bringing it to his mouth to lay a kiss on top. "You have many other outfits to try."
"I sure do." The female agent giggled and kissed his forehead before disappearing behind the curtain of the changing room.
It took them probably an hour to go through most of it. Chamber analyzed everything which took even more time, but they had fun, trying stupid combinations that did not match each other. The people in the shop must have thought they were crazy, laughing this much over clothes, but it was the most fun they were able to get together since they were dating. Working at the protocol and Chamber doing shady things on the sides took most of their time. So these short moments of leisure were a blessing for them. Vincent had insisted on paying for the clothes they both liked and [F/n] had no other choice but to accept. His smile was always so hard to resist.
[A/n] was looking at herself through the mirror of the changing rooms, inspecting this last outfit she tried on. Chamber seemed especially excited about this one for some reason. She chuckled, remembering his adorable reaction when she came out with it. She started to undress, finally able to put her comfortable clothes back on. She was in her underwear and spent a moment looking at her body.
"I've been slacking a bit," she commented, looking at her muscles. She had not had that much time to work out properly lately and she needed to get back to it.
All of a sudden, an eerie feeling came crawling on her skin. She turned around, looking everywhere to where this danger she felt came from. The same eyes that had been watching her lately were there, she knew it. But something alarmed her more than usual.
A knife.
She quickly turned around and punched the air. Her fist landed on the mirror, breaking it into pieces. Her hand had multiple cuts around it, blood on the wall and dropping on the floor from her fingertips. But she did not flinch or scream in pain. She remained static, trying to comprehend what was happening. There was someone.
The loud noise of glass shattering alarmed the whole shop, clients and salespeople came in a hurry to see what was happening. Vincent quickly stood up at the sound and opened the curtain of the changing room in a panic.
"[F/n]?! What happened?!" he cried out. He noticed the blood on the ground alongside the glass shards. Then he looked up and he saw her terrified expression through the broken mirror. "[F/n]-" He took a step but quickly stopped when he saw her flinch.
Her injured hand was shaking but she remained in this state of shock, the voices of the people around her did not seem to reach her ears. What was that? What was happening to her? She was so sure someone was about to stab her. As soon as she felt it, it disappeared like nothing ever happened and it was all in her brain. But she knew it. There was someone. Her brain would never play tricks on her like that. Was that a Radiant playing with her? Who was watching her? What did they want? There were so many questions but she had no answer.
Who would want to kill her? Many people probably wanted to hurt her but to kill... Who held such hatred towards herself beside...
Her eyes widened as she realized something. She turned around to face Chamber, taking a deep breath. The man waited patiently for her to collect herself so she would speak to him. "I think... my double is chasing me down."
It was the only plausible answer. A Radiant that had been tailing her for a moment but she had never been able to see no matter how many times she searched.
"Your double...?" Vincent seemed taken aback. He thought Mirror [A/n] had disappeared. That was what his own double told him at least. Did he lie?
After this, [A/n] was brought to the hospital so they could remove any glass shards that made their way inside her skin. The operation took a long time and Chamber had informed the headquarters of what happened. This was only speculation but, if it was true and [A/n]'s double was roaming around the base, anyone could be in danger. Special precautions would need to be made and the female agent would probably need to be watched by someone all the time so there was no intruder taking her place or trying to kill her. The two lovers came back together in silence. [A/n] had not pronounced a word after that and went straight to their room at the penthouse. Chamber thought it was best to let her some space and he let her be, for now, hoping that she would talk tomorrow.
