11- Mission

The big day had finally come. Agents were changing, getting into their fighting gears, checking their techs one last time, coming to the weapon specialist for last minutes problems. It was very busy at the helipad with agents going back and forth, loading the airplanes with the necessary objects for the mission. It was very early in the morning but everyone was well awake and energetic. [A/n] was checking one last time everyone's weapons, making sure there was enough ammo for the mission. She had been very busy ever since she woke up, which helped her forget about how stressed she was. Brimstone called for everyone one last time, doing a last-minute recap before everyone hopped in the airplanes. [A/n]'s team was the first one to fly off, heading right to Marocco. The trip took thirty minutes and the agents kept themselves busy. Viper read a book peacefully while Phoenix and Yoru were bickering as always - all three other agents were happy Chamber was not here or their ears would have burst from hearing all of them fight loudly. [A/n] had her headset on, listening to her favorite music as her ritual before a mission. She was lost in her thoughts, remembering the night before leaving.

As she was reading a book in her bed, she heard a loud familiar noise inside her room. She jumped and sat up to see Chamber standing next to her. "How did you get there?!" she yelled at him, putting her book aside.

"I have my ways."

She rose an eyebrow, realizing what the sound was. "Did you really put one of your cards in my room?"

He shrugged his shoulder before sitting down on her bed. "Yes, but before you get mad," he said as he placed a finger on her lips, "it was only so I would not be spied on by anyone going in."

"Still is a violation of privacy," she said, his finger still pressed against her lips.

He chuckled, leaning closer, bringing his hand under her chin. "And what are you going to do about that, mademoiselle?"

"You better make your time worth it."

She noticed someone sitting next to her, breaking her from her thoughts. She opened one eye to see the commander looking at her. Pausing her music, she took off one earpiece.

"Am I disturbing you?" he kindly asked.

She shook her head with a smile. "Not at all, Brimstone. Do you need something?"

He nodded, his expression was always very serious. "I just wanted to make sure everything is alright with you."

She refrained a sigh. She knew his question was because he was worried - especially regarding the mission - but she was tired of hearing it. "All good here. No need to worry."

"That's good to hear. We'll be counting on you out there, agent." He placed a hand on her shoulder, firmly grabbing it.

"Well," she thought, "he knows how to put even more pressure on people before a mission."

"But don't forget we've got yours too." She looked up to him, surprised by his words. "Just call for backups and we'll be right behind you."

Phoenix probably told him how stressed she was but his words really warmed her heart, appeasing a bit of tension. She let out a smile and nodded her head. "Thank you, Sir. I will."

"Call me if you are in trouble." His voice was soft as he held her close from behind in her bed.

She chuckled, stroking his arms with her thumbs. "Are you going to teleport all the way to my location?"

He planted several kisses on her shoulder, whispering in her neck. "I would."

[A/n] rolled her eyes, smiling sadly. "Don't joke about that."

Chamber wanted to add something, tell her the truth but things were sometimes better unsaid. Not only for him but for her as well. They stayed like that in silence, enjoying each other's warmth until they fell asleep.

[A/n]'s feet made contact with the dusty ground of Marocco. It was very calm, not a sound around. In front of her was a wall made of metal. It extended to the right leading to a hallway next to the B site where Phoenix and Viper were supposed to defend in case of an attack. It also went further left towards A site, the point Brimstone and Yoru were protecting. If their theories were correct, they were supposed to come here, it was the most beneficial point of interest for radianite. After all, they already came here once, just to be stopped by Phoenix, Viper, and Killjoy. It was still impossible to understand what use all this radianite was for them, but it was probably for no good especially when the result was the destruction of a city. Everyone moved to their locations and [A/n] went further away to meet the enemy team at their potential landing site.

She stayed hidden in a cave near the landing site so she could not be spotted from the air and waited. Her eyes were glued to the blue sky, her sunglasses protecting her from the blinding sun.

"Still nothing?" Brimstone asked.

"No. Still very calm," she answered through her earpiece, still looking up for any airship.

"I'm getting bored now," Phoenix interjected with a sigh.

"For once, I have to agree," Yoru added.

The camouflage agent rolled her eyes, amused. She then heard Viper yelling at them when suddenly, a loud noise picked the woman's interest. "Stop everything now! They're here," she announced and everyone stopped talking to listen to her. "They're landing right where we thought." [A/n] activated her camouflage and tried to move to get a better angle.

"Alright, I'm twitchy here, let's go already!" Phoenix added, getting serious.

She had the best angle from here, seeing all the agents jump down from the ship one by one. "I see Viper, Phoenix, Jett, and Kay/O," she whispered through her coms.

"That's good, we've got more numbers. But that Kay/O is going to be a problem," Brimstone analyzed.

"Shouldn't be a problem. Leave him to me," Yoru chuckled, very confident about himself.

"He's especially a problem to you, radiant," Viper insisted and everyone could hear her exasperated tone through the coms.

Brimstone spoke up again. "Yes, we've got three radiants in our team so we have to be careful. Do you see where they are heading?"

[A/n] climbed up the wall, sticking to the wall thanks to her ability as a chameleon, and went closer without fear of being detected. "Still talking strategies. But be careful, I feel like they're supposed to be five people but I don't see the last one."

"Could be your mirror self?" Phoenix wondered.

"If that's the case, I would already be dead," she said, half-joking. If her mirror self was here, she would have already been detected and been shot by any of them. She went back to being serious when she saw them moving. "Going A."

"I knew it," Yoru said.

"Oh, man! Why won't they come here?" Phoenix sounded disappointed. The two men must have been betting back on the ship about where the enemies would head first.

"Enough, you two!" Brimstone yelled. "We've got company."

Gunshots could be heard from all directions on A site. Brimstone was holding the site from higher grounds while Yoru hid behind boxes waiting for the right moment to slip behind them. They called for backups and Viper and Phoenix hurried to them. Phoenix flanked them, taking the teleporter that lead to the showers while Viper made her way from where the team landed earlier.

"One is missing," announced Viper. "Be careful, [A/n]."

"I'm on it," she said.

She put down her camouflage then took her weapon in her hands. She was heading from Mirror Earth's landing area to B site, suspecting that the missing enemy was trying to go behind them or plant the spike where no one was. She moved carefully, not making any noise to go undetected. For now, it was very calm, except for distant gunfires and the angry yelling of her teammates emitting from her earpiece. She took a deep breath, suddenly feeling nervous. She felt like something was not right, something was missing. She did say that she was sure they were supposed to be five but no one saw that last enemy. She arrived at a corner and peaked. She saw a shadow of someone walking the long path to B site. She felt the corner of her lips rising, convinced she had them. She straightened, stepping away from the corner, and, as she was about to put on her camouflage, she noticed it did not work. She frowned, trying again but to no avail. As she reached out to call for her team, she heard a gunshot close to her.

It took her a while to realize what happened.

She looked down to her stomach and saw a river of red. Her vision was becoming blurry as she dropped to her knees, her body making contact with the dusty hot ground. She laid there on her stomach unable to move. She did not understand how someone could come behind her without her sense of danger alarming her. She then realized that she forgot about one capital information, they had Kay/O. She heard footsteps coming closer to her before they kicked her in her side so she would face them. She caught a few times from the pain and held her bleeding side. She managed to open her eyes and saw a figure towering over her. She recognized Phoenix with a Sheriff in his hands. He was playing with his gun while looking down at her with a twisted smile.

"Hi, girl. Nice to meet you," he greeted, chuckling.

[A/n] caught again, glaring back at him. "Finish me already before my team comes here."

"Oh, don't worry about that, they are still busy with my friends. We've got all the time we need."

The woman gulped down, scared of what he had planned for her. She heard buzzing sounds in her earpiece, the voices of teammates barely audible. Her eyes landed on her sheriff laying next to her. But she quickly turned back her attention to the man above her so she would not look suspicious.

"What do you want from me?" she asked, fighting to stay conscious.

"Relax, relax! I don't plan on killing you yet. I'm sure you can be useful to us. And a [A/n] less in their ranks would be more than pleasant."

It was true that she was a target to any of the sides. Her abilities were very crucial on a battlefield and if she could be removed from society, that would be in their best interest. "Then, what are you waiting for?" she pressed him, wondering why he still had not finished her.

"Do you have a death wish or what?" he wondered with a frown. She scoffed, looking away, the pain in her stomach becoming more and more unbearable. Phoenix let out a sigh and frowned. "I just... have not seen that face in a while."

She took the opportunity of this moment of distraction and grabbed her gun before shooting right through his head. His body disappeared in an ocean of flames and she was now left alone. She cursed his immortality but quickly focused back on her team.

"Hello," she said weakly, "can anyone hear me?"

She could only hear static noise. Then, she noticed that there were no gunshots anymore. Her heartbeat increased, wondering if it was a good or a bad sign.  She tried to calm down, stressing herself would not help stop her bleeding. She listened carefully to her environment but could not hear any spikes beeping from anywhere. A sigh escaped her lips, relieved that the worst was not happening. She tried to reach out to them once more but was greeted by the same answer. She tried to push herself back up and grunted from the pain. She took a deep breath, assembled all her courage, and stood up. Suddenly, she heard new gunshots echoing in the area, closer than before. With the help of the walls around her, she made her way to the B site to join the landing site. She was getting close to the path that lead to the site but fell down to her knees, the throbbing pain was stronger than she was. She shook her head, sweats running down her forehead, the tips of her fingers slowly turning cold, gathering her strength once more to stand up. However, what she saw when reaching B site brought her to despair. Her blood turned as cold as ice. Her eyes stared up as her body shook violently unable to keep her on her own two feet. She bit the inside of her mouth, trying to prevent her tears from falling as she saw them. She punched the ground and lowered her head against the ground, cursing.

The airplane flew away from Rabat, leaving behind a heavily injured agent.
