Chapter 6
Roman was lurking in the shadows of the Dark Side Common Room. It was something he'd gotten better at. Lurking and watching. He'd found it was the best way to learn things about the Dark Sides and what they were planning. So, he lurked in the shadows, quiet as a mouse. And he did learn things about the Dark Sides.
Roman learnt that the Dark Sides were very equal with everything they did. They had all agreed on a system and stuck to their assigned jobs. Janus was the one who cared for most of the Dark Sides, he was the 'dad' of the group. Jealousy was Insecurities adoptive older brother since Virgil had left. Anger and Obsession usually were the ones who kept Remus...relatively calm. Or at least, they stopped him from bouncing off the walls and destroying the place. Guilt and Insecurities kept Thomas thinking realistically and were basically different forms of Virgil, from what Roman had seen. And Remus... was just Remus. The Dark Sides knew better than to give him anything to do.
Roman also learnt that the Dark Sides were very protective of each other, especially Insecurities. Something had happened to the little boy, Roman could only assume that it was something to do with attachment issues due to Virgil leaving.
"Pride!" A voice yelled, pulling Roman from his thoughts. It was Guilt. "Pride!"
"I'm not Pride." Roman snapped, suddenly angry. "I'm Creativity."
Guilt rolled his eyes and grabbed Roman by the arm. "Whatever you represent, Janus wants to talk to you."
Roman pulled his arm out of the other Side's grip. "Well, you can tell that, that... snake that I won't be talking to him."
Guilt laughed softly. "Janus thought you'd say that. He said that you didn't have a choice so come on." This time, Guilt grabbed Roman's arm and didn't let go even when Roman tried to pull out of Guilt's grip. "And if you struggle, we are allowed to use force." Guilt muttered. Roman took a deep breath and followed Guilt.
"Ah Pride, how good of you to come."
"Not like I had a choice." Roman muttered roughly, resting his hand on his sword hilt. Janus laughed.
"There is no need for that sword here." He said, laughing. "So, you can just put it down." Suddenly, the sword disappeared into thin air. Roman looked around wildly.
"What did you do with my sword, Snake?" He hissed. Janus simply laughed and rested his hands on the desk separating him and Roman.
"It has come to my attention, Pride-"
"Creativity." Roman snarled.
"Pride, that you are not happy here. Why?"
Roman let out a disbelieving laugh. "Why?" He repeated incredulously. "You forced me to come back here when I didn't want to! I never wanted to leave the Light Sides yet you made me!"
"Did you forget our deal?" Janus bellowed, drowning Roman's yells out. He took a breath, trying to calm himself down. "Our deal, Pride, was that you would sneak information from the Light Sides back to us and we would find a way to bring them down to our level and be equal in Thomas' mind. You had four years to complete this task and then you would come back. Four years is up."
"I don't remember signing any contract dictating this." Roman snarled. Janus sighed and grabbed a piece of paper out of thin air. He unrolled the scroll and jabbed right at the bottom where Roman could see swirly writing spelling out the word 'Pride'.
"There is your signature, you signed this." Janus snarled. "Give it up, Roman. You are a Dark Side and you know that you belong here."
Roman looked at the signature, his eyes wide. He did remember signing it. But he wasn't a Dark Side. He didn't belong here, he had to remember that. Roman swallowed and looked up at Janus' triumphant face.
"I may have signed that." Roman growled, trying to contain his anger. "I may have been a Dark Side in the past but I am not like you, Janus. I am not evil."
The triumphant look slid off of Janus' face to be replaced with a snarl. The contract disappeared and was replaced with a phone which Janus shoved into Roman's hands.
"Why don't you watch yourself in Thomas' videos. You're just as bad as me, Roman, mark my words." Janus hissed. "Now get out of my sight."
Roman didn't dare disobey, he was so threatened.
