Chapter Two: Nameless
Kerri’s POV:
I woke up next to Mr. Hale. He was wide awake, looking at the ceiling. Once he saw me looking at him, his gaze darted over to me.
“Morning.”
He said, whipping his hair back into place. I wasn’t completely sure what was going on and I jumped out of bed.
Nik’s POV:
She jumped and started to panic. I got up slowly and walked closer to her. She began to walk backward until her back was against the wall.
“Hey, it’s okay. You’re safe.”
She looked down at my hands that were placed in hers and she started to calm down. Then, out of nowhere, she grabbed a hold of my chest, wrapping her arms around me and burying her head in my chest.
I didn’t know what to do. I don’t usually do this type of stuff; my brother deals with the comforting people part. So, I just put my arms around her gently before rubbing her back.
“Shhhh. Shhhh. It’s alright.”
I rested my chin on her head as she began to cry into me once again. “Wh.. What’s your name, sweetheart?”
Kerri’s POV:
I didn’t know what came over me. When he put his hands in mine, I felt safe, but then I remembered what happened. How the guys from the Blue Lion gang were all over me and how Mr. Hale came to my rescue.
Then I lose control of my body. I dived into his chest and wrapped my arms around him, before burying my head.
I didn’t know why.
I was going to pull away when he wrapped his arms around me. Then, he rubbed my back, which reminded me one time, when I felt sad, my brother would pull me into a hug and rub my back.
So, I ended up bursting into tears. I couldn’t help it. He seemed tense and all flustered as he asked me what my name was. I answered him through my sobbing.
“Kerri. Kerri Hopper.”
Nik’s POV:
Her name was beautiful. Although her name had an odd meaning, it suited her well.
“I’m Niklaus. Well, Nik for short.”
Her grip on me loosened. When I looked down, she was asleep again. I gently carried her back to the bed and put her under the covers, before leaving her to sleep. I walked down to the kitchen, where my brother was serving breakfast.
Elijah’s POV:
“Morning, Nik.”
I said as he walked in. He looked like a mess; like he slept in his clothes. But I knew something was up because he came home carrying a girl in his arms.
“So, who’s your friend?”
I say, teasing.
This caused Nikayla to giggle softly. She got home late because she was out with her friends, which I didn’t mind. But it made me feel like I hadn’t seen her in a while.
So, I loved moments like this, when I make her laugh and she gives me a smile. Her beautiful smile was enough to lighten up the day.
Nik’s POV:
I scowled at Elijah, rolling my eyes as I got the milk out of the fridge.
“Her name is Kerri,”
I snapped, causing Elijah’s eyes to widen and Nikayla’s jaw to drop.
“Kerri. Kerri Hopper?”
Nikayla said, standing up in surprise. I nodded and she ran off, leaving just me and Elijah alone.
“So, you finally found someone.”
I folded my arms. He was annoying me on purpose. I was the only one who didn’t have a relationship in this house. Seriously.
“You said if I didn’t propose or get married by the end of the year, I had to marry her.”
I hissed, I would have to marry Sofia Rossetti if I didn’t meet someone. Elijah wasn’t being cruel; he gave me a choice. I am a reckless person and he wants me to settle down.
Unfortunately, Sofia found out and got her dad to force Elijah to make the deal. But, if I meet someone else, I’m free from her.
But I didn’t want to see Kerri as my way out. There’s something about her. It’s like I’ve seen her before.
Elijah’s POV:
Nik was lost in thought. I was pleased he had found someone. Kerri seemed to have a hold on him. I haven’t even met her, yet the way he snapped and said her name reminded me of the time I met Nikayla.
I just hope he doesn’t mess it up.
Nik’s POV:
“We have a problem, though.”
I whispered, he wasn’t going to like this, but I was just going to grit my teeth and bear with it. He looked at me with a confused yet slightly angry face, as if to say, What have you done this time?
“The Blue Lions, they...they threatened her because...because of me. They saw her...they saw her with me.”
I said, clenching my fist onto the kitchen counter. Just the thought of them taking her made my blood boil.
“We’ll deal with them, but for now, you need to get to know her. For God’s sake, Nik, keep her safe. And treat her right.”
He said as I left to check on her.
Elijah’s POV:
I turned to look out the window. My whole body was tense. Then I felt Nikayla’s arms wrap around my waist.
“What’s wrong?”
I remained facing the window so she sat on the counter in front of me, drawing my eyes away from the window.
“Kerri. She’s in danger because the Blue Lions saw her with Nik. They want her.”
I didn’t mean to blurt it all out, but I always told Nikayla everything. Always have and always will. She placed her hand on the side of my face.
“I know her; Kerri. Shirina, Hunter and I, we know her. We went out yesterday. We were at the club. You know, Nik’s club. We thought she went home because she doesn’t like to drink and she’s not into dancing.”
She sounded and looked guilty. I knew she felt bad like it was her fault. I just picked her up off the counter and pulled her into my chest. Her legs wrapped themselves around my waist, her hands around my neck.
“It’s not your fault, baby. I think Nik likes her and if he truly does feel the same way about her as I do about you, then the Lions have no chance. Okay?”
I kissed her and placed her back on the ground. I just hope Nik treats her right.
Nik’s POV:
After my talk with Elijah, I went back to Kerri. She was still asleep. She looked so peaceful. It was going to take a lot of work.
I knew there were things I didn’t want to tell her straight away and I’m sure she’s the same.
But, in time, I will trust her more. Although I already feel like I would take a bullet for her, she is priceless to me. But, to the Lions, I dare not think.
She moved and I jumped up, but she remained asleep. So, I placed a kiss on her forehead before lying back on the bed. I might have tackled Elijah, which just left everyone else.
But the biggest thing was protecting and showing Kerri how I feel. I’d rather face a brawl of a gun then tell her how I feel.
Which, is not good at all, but I’ll have to work at it one day at a time. I still have a year to prove it to her and to myself.
