⚜️5⚜️ - Sinner with Golden Heart

Je ne pouvais pas comprendre qui il était

I couldn't understand who he was

The girl before me scanned me from head to toe as if she realized that I didn't look like any other normal person. She, on the other hand, looked quite normal. Dark black hair styled up in a ponytail, rose colored blouse and black jeans hugging her slim, petite body, she looked like a typical university student, absorbed in the phone in her hands.

"Was I not supposed to see you?" She spoke up, blinking at me in suspicion. "I'm really sorry if I'm disturbing you...?"

Mouth agape, I struggled to find something... anything to say back to her. The situation was too absurd. A human was most definitely seeing me when I didn't make myself visible. No matter how much I examined her, she was a human, no doubt.

"Well," she murmured, snapping me out of it, and stepped backwards with a scared expression. Her eyes were noticeably big.

"Ah, I'm sorry, too," I managed to reply, bowing slightly.

While I was lost in thoughts, she walked away to wherever she was going, leaving me in a state of confusion. I didn't know who she was. Perhaps she was an anomaly and perhaps my invisibility was lacking since I was a fairly new Virtue.

"I shouldn't be slacking off," I whispered to myself and recalled the list I made of places that I should frequent. If I wasn't mistaken, casinos were around the top of the list, but I couldn't bring myself to go to one. There was only so much I could do with my powers and casinos were overflowing with greed.

"A tribute concert to the famous dancer and singer, Park Jimin was held yesterday evening." I snapped my head to the small television on the wall a few feet away at the mention of Jimin. "Reportedly, thirty thousand people attended the concert where professionals from the industry as well as artists from the same entertainment company performed Park Jimin's works in memory of him."

A woman watching the television sighed before clicking her tongue. "He was such a good person. Young, talented and kindhearted... I admired his real personality... Can't believe he was suffering in secret."

I furrowed my eyebrows, listening to her. I wondered if she was talking about his time in the hospital.

"I know," the man next to him sighed. "It's scary how young people like them are leaving the world so soon... It's heartbreaking. He inspired so many and made them happy."

"I heard his parents didn't even attend their own son's funeral," another woman older than the two joined, whispering. It elicited a gasp from me and my hand flew up to cover my mouth in shock.

"That must be a rumor. Maybe they held one in... uh, where did people say they were in?"

"Dubai?"

"Ah, yes! Dubai. Maybe they held a funeral in Dubai?" The first woman said, shrugging. "Park Jimin always talked about how he loves his family and vice versa. I don't believe his parents wouldn't mourn his death, that's too unbelievable."

My lips parted in understanding. Jimin's parents were alive and well. I was certain that they were devastated at the fact that his beloved son left them so early. I hoped they would recover without any damages.

Everyone was recovering with different levels of difficulty. Jimin was loved by millions after all.

But I still didn't understand.

I approached the three. "Um, excuse me?"

They whipped their heads towards me and widened their eyes at my unusual appearance. "Y-Yes?"

"By 'suffering in secret', what did you mean? I didn't know how he died, you see..."

A visible frown contorted the older woman's face, adding to the wrinkles. "You haven't watched the news?"

Biting my lips, I shook my head. I could ask the other Virtues or anyone else instead of asking them but I was too hasty.

"He..." She frowned further as if it pained her to say it. "He... It was suicide..."

My eyes popped out. Suicide?

"So that's why he's there?" I whispered to myself. But then, I didn't understand why he became a Deadly Sin. If he didn't have anything to do with greed, he wouldn't become its Sin in the first place.

Greed...

Did he chase after money as a celebrity and do something horrible?

I shook my head, realizing that I was too obsessed with his personal life again. But knowing it might help me get closer to him, so I deemed it fine.

"I see. Excuse me."

I bowed and shuffled away, leaving them in their own conversation as another news came up on the television. Walking outside the hospital, I ambled aimlessly, letting my thoughts run wild. Jimin looked alright like he wasn't suffering at all so I couldn't tell.

It hurt me to go up against him now that I knew.

I flinched in surprise when a stray dog circled me and stood in front of me, looking up at me with dark button eyes. It looked malnourished and its beige fur covered in patches of dirt that my heart stung.

Squatting, I reached out a hand. "Hey there, cutie. Are you lost?"

The dog skipped towards me and sniffed my hand. There was no collar around its thin neck but I couldn't leave it like that.

Searching the area, I spotted a supermarket and smiled before turning to the dog looking up at me with big eyes and wagging tail. "Can you please stay here? I'll be back with some food and a comb if I'm lucky."

The dog tilted its head, prompting an exclaim of adoration from me. "I'll be quick, okay?"

Quickly running to the supermarket, I grabbed a box of dog food, small bowls and a bottle of clean water before paying and running out to the dog as it rushed towards me. Calling it to myself, I settled the bowls on the ground and poured the food and water before the dog started eating.

Once done, I teleported to the river and washed it to the best of my abilities. Unfortunately, I couldn't get a comb at the supermarket so I had to tame its locks with my fingers.

"Charity?"

Startled, I whirled around and found the blonde haired, plush dressed man looking down at me in surprise. "Oh. Hi again...?"

"Is that... a stray dog in your hands?"

I looked back to the dog as it shook his body to dry off, spraying me in the process and drawing a squeak from me. "Ah, cutie!"

When I opened my eyes after rubbing them, Jimin was kneeling beside me and petting the dog as it leaned into his touch with shut eyes. I froze there in awe as Jimin smiled at the dog, making satisfied hums.

"I see you have opened dog food there. Did you feed him?"

I snapped out of my staring and cleared my throat, focusing on the dog. "So it's a 'he'? I couldn't tell..."

"So where are you taking him?" He tilted his head, his eyes inquiring me. "It's rare seeing a person- Ah, you're not a person but a Heavenly Virtue..."

"Well, I should take him to an animal shelter," I said after recovering from the nervousness I felt from the proximity of his body. "Even if I wanted to help cutie, I'm just a soul roaming earth."

Jimin hummed in understanding. "Still, you fed him and cleaned him." He stood up after picking the dog up and smiled at me. "Shall we go?"

Blinking two or three times, I was about to ask when he answered, "To the animal shelter. As you said."

"Ah!" I quickly grabbed the box of food and bowls and sprung up. "Y-Yes, let's go."

Chuckling softly, eyes narrowing into sparkling crescents in the warm sun glow, he brushed my arm with his free hand and teleported us to the outside of a building with a sign that said, 'Hope shelter for animals'.

Jimin teleported us so confidently that I wondered if he knew this place already.

"This is a place I would come to sometimes whenever I found stray animals," he said as if he read my mind and I gawked at him in amazement. It wasn't known widely that he did such things.

I jerked backwards when he leaned closer to my face with a smile. "Knock knock? Are you there, angel?"

Inhaling deeply, I nodded vigorously and pushed him to the door. "Let's just go in!"
