Are you my fan?

Weeks passed in a blink and I found myself in a classroom when it stopped. The elderly professor was going on about some theory in math that I could not bother to focus on. Instead, I scanned the students around me and recognized some of them as memories washed over me in waves after waves. Girls whom I used to spend time outside school and weekends with, and boys whom I used to chat and laugh with.

Only those times were not as long as I wanted it to be.

"Are those vitamins?" The girl beside me, one of my old university friends asked, pointing at the small container on the table in front of me.

"Uh, no. I'm on meds," I whispered back.

"Oh." She widened her eyes. "Are you sick?"

I chuckled, shaking my head. "Not really. It's to prevent that from happening, you see."

I explained my condition, making her widen her eyes a fraction.

"Oh... that's sad. Are you okay?"

"Yeah." I gave her a soft smile, reminiscing the times we spent together when my heart was still beating. They were lamentably short, but looking at her face and hearing her voice, my heart was warm again. I was able to meet her again.

The class ended after a minute and my old classmates rose from their seats, laughing and talking loudly. They cheered about some talent show but I didn't hear what they were saying, staring at them like I was watching a nostalgic film.

"Can you dance, Saejin?"

I blinked before widening my eyes at the one who called my name. "Huh?"

"Since you said you like skating, thought you might be good at dancing," he chuckled and a few others agreed. "There's only you."

"Well, I-I can. I dance but sometimes, so..."

"Okay, you're up for the dance category then!" He swiftly turned around and scribbled my name on the whiteboard next to 'dance solo'.

"University talent show?" I read the title and I took a sharp inhale, remembering what happened.

"Thank you, Saejin!"

"Yeah, counting on you!" The others cheered for me and it made refusing impossible.

If I refused, would things turn out different?

"Actually... can I take out my name from there? I'm not in that much of a good condition to dance..."

My words didn't reach any of their ears. I tried again, thinking that maybe I should say it louder even if I could have been heard clearly, but no. They were acting like I didn't open my mouth and I realized, giving up. Just what did I have control over?

They all agreed on the students who would participate in the talent show, representing the class, and scrambled to get out of the room. I let out a sigh and slung my bag over my shoulder before walking out. I was sent back to change what happened but how could I do that if I couldn't do anything out of line? My hands were tied and my mouth was covered. I was like a snowflake drifting through the wind, letting the wind change my direction and decide where I would land.

"Saejin."

Furrowing my eyebrows, I looked around the school grounds and found Greed strutting towards me with his hands tucked in his jeans pocket. His black hair was pushed back and he had makeup as if he had done a photoshoot before coming here.

"What the heck are you doing here?" I snarled at him.

He stood in front of me with a smile. "To pick you up, of course."

"Why?" I grimaced, walking past him. Obviously, he followed me.

"If you're so weak, why are you going to university?"

I rolled my eyes before seeing some other students gawking at him. They whispered to each other and some were trying to snap a picture, making me hide my face in my scarf.

"Shouldn't you be cautious outside? I don't want unnecessary attention from your fans or the media."

"It's fine. I'll just deny any rumor and let my company deal with it." He smiled at two girls who passed by with their eyes glued to him, basically ogling. "Seeing people recognizing me and dropping their jaws is so satisfying. I couldn't do this. Not longer after I passed."

Wow... kind of shallow. So he likes the attention.

"But I don't know want to be seen with you," I sighed, quickening my pace to walk further away from him, but Greed was keeping up with no problem.

"It won't affect you in any way if people see us together. This is not real anyway."

I looked at him in disbelief as he simply smiled back at me. "Don't you have practice or whatever you dancers do?"

With a little splutter of laughter, he shook his head. "I'm not wasting time on that. Why would I anyway?"

"But you're wasting time with me...?"

He hummed, looking away. "Are you hungry? I know this place with such great seafood."

He suddenly walked away to a different direction. "This way."

For a moment, I watched his back as he walked further and further away from me, debating on where I should go. I didn't know why but I decided to follow him. He stopped and turned around, and when he saw me walking to him, he smiled and continued walking when I reached his side.

"You're paying," I said.

"Of course."

We entered a cozy restaurant with light garland decorations hanging everywhere inside. I was following Greed to a table until someone called my name. I looked around and saw one of my university friends waving at me with a grin. She was alone so I approached her to say hi.

"Are you here alone?"

"No, my friend will be here soon," she explained and I nodded. Her eyes drifted sideways and widened.

When I followed her gaze, there was Greed standing near beside me, watching the two of us. Did she know him?

"Oh, h-he's a... neighbor," I said, but Greed jumped in.

"I'm her friend." He smiled at her and I noticed how much he was smiling, almost everywhere.

"Ah, I see." She still gawked at him and I excused ourselves, pushing the popular man away from there.

"Can you not?" I grumbled to Greed who chuckled as we sat down at an empty table.

"Shouldn't you be happy that you're with a celebrity?" He tilted his head, his plump lips forming a grin. "Why are you so embarrassed?"

I heaved a sigh, grabbing the menu. "Whatever."

My heart jumped to my throat when he suddenly leaned forward over the table and his soft lips brushed my ear as he whispered. "I heard you're my fan, Charity."

I choked on air and jerked backwards, nearly falling with my chair if he didn't hold me. "W-What are you-! Who's a fan?! Not me!"

His dark eyes intensely stared into mine, making me hold my breath. The distance between our faces, if it could even be called a distance, was merely an inch, and my mind was blank. No thoughts. Just his eyes captivating me as I couldn't move a muscle.

My heart... Why was my heart thumping out of control?

"You're not?" His warm breath brushed my skin, giving rise to goosebumps over my body.

"How may I help you?" A female voice made me jump and shove Greed back to his seat before turning to find a waitress looking back and forth between us.

"Yes! I'll have king crab," I exclaimed.

It was a weekend but Greed was here at my home having a conversation with my father. Could he not let me have some family time with him? I stabbed my salad with my fork while listening to their talk, ready to intervene in case something happened.

"Don't strain yourself for your talent show performance," my father warned me when Greed talked about how practicing was sometimes exhausting.

"Of course," I assured but I wasn't sure how it would turn out in the end.

His phone suddenly buzzed and he walked out of the room to take the call.

"Is this how you're like during the weekends?" Greed mocked, pointing at my outfit with his chin.

I scoffed. "What? And you wear designer clothes at home in the weekends?"

He put up his hands with a playful smile. "No, ma'am. I was just joking."

Father came back wearing a suit and told me that he needed to go to work. He said that he would be back soon but I doubted it.

"Why aren't you working while my dad is," I asked, or rather grumbled at Greed.

He dramatically slapped a hand over his chest where his heart was. "You don't want me around?"

"As a wallet, sure."

I slumped back in my chair and wondered why time was not skipping. Perhaps something would happen?

Determined, I dashed to my bedroom to change my clothes and hurried to the hallway, grabbing my keys and coat. "Can you leave, Greed? I'm locking the door on my way out."

He appeared before me with a confused expression. "Wait, where are you going?"

"None of your business," I said, ignoring him. I locked the door after we left the apartment and ran outside.

As if he was glued to me, Greed was following me as usual.
