Chapter 2

I didn't even have time to really process what had just happened.

The next thing I knew, I was at the front of the store, watching as my new master handed the pet mistress the proper amount of money.

I was honestly still a bit stunned from everything that was happening.

Such a crucial moment of my life and it was already happening.

My stomach turned a bit as I forced myself to accept these changes.

Something told me I wasn't really going to have a choice anyway.

I've had many daydreams about how this day would go throughout my life, yet I never imagined myself being this scared.

Maybe it was the fear from the rest of the girls in here rubbing off on me or the fact that I couldn't quite get a grip on the vampire who just purchased me.

I rubbed nervously at my freed wrists.

"Thank you for shopping with us and I hope you enjoy your purchase." My pet Mistress said, handing my new master the file that contained my records.

I swallowed hard, trying not to succumb to my fear this soon.

I was his now.

Master had said something back to her but I missed it, instead being snapped out of my thought as soon as he started walking out.

My head instinctively turned back to my pet Mistress, in some last-ditch effort for some kind of comfort or reassurance but got nothing.

Not even a glance goodbye.

And for some reason that caused a tinge of pain in my chest.

My life up to this point was gone just like that and I didn't even have time to stop and catch my breath.

I squinted as the sun came into view, the two brothers chatting in front of me as I stayed a few steps back.

And then I became insanely aware of my lack of covering clothing, and the stares of the vampires that we passed.

I took in a deep breath, trying to calm my racing nerves.

There was nothing I could do at this point, that much I understood.

Instead, I decided to shift my focus on the warmth of the sun on my skin and on my bare feet.

It wasn't long before we reached a limo, Nico getting in first, and me getting in last.

The inside was very spacious, one continuous, red leather seat surrounding the entire back area.

My eyes set on a girl that looked only a bit older than me sitting there, her hands clasped in her lap as she watched Nico sat beside her.

She must be his pet.

Xander sat across from his brother, telling me to sit across from the girl.

I didn't want to risk anything and followed his orders as fast as I could.

The boys continued talking as the limo set into motion.

I glanced over at the girl in front of me.

If she belongs to Nico and they're brothers, then they probably treat their pets the same right?

I checked for injuries, not finding any on the amount of her skin that was visible save for the numerous bite marks on the side of her neck, one of them looking fairly recent

I guess that was a good sign... Being bitten wasn't really avoidable as a pet, so that was fine.

I could deal with that.

Although I wasn't really looking forward to the first time it was going to happen to me.

I wondered when that was going to be...

Not wanting to focus on the negative, I focused back on the girl.

She was dressed nicely in a long-sleeved shirt and jeans. She even had on a pair of shoes that looked recently acquired.

Her long chestnut brown hair looked brushed and taken care of.

I looked down at the ends my own hair, noticing how we basically had the same hair color.

Her body looked clean, and she looked well fed.

She looked like she was treated well and taken care of, so in the back of my mind, I hoped I had the same fate.

Yet despite how well-treated she looked, her body was tense. Her eyes stayed wide and pointed to the floor.

She looks scared of her master, which rose many questions and concerns for myself.

My fingers rose up to gently trace the fabric of the collar on my neck before I tuned into the brother's conversations.

"Was going to that specific petshop really necessary?" Nico questioned, making it more obvious that he didn't want to be here.

My master clicked his tongue.

"Man, why do you have to be such a downer literally all the time?"

Nico just glared at him, crossing one of his legs over the other.

"Because instead of finishing organizing the shit for the blood collection that's in five days, you decided to wait in a line for more time than was necessary for this pet shop when there was another, faster one five minutes from the castle."

It was silent for a moment while Master thought of a response.

"Ok, but they say the pets there are better." He retorted.

I had heard that too, but Nico didn't look like he believed it.

"Your pet looks just as fine as Dahlia," he said, jerking a thumb to the girl to his left, " Humans are humans, Xander. They're all basically the same."

He glanced between me and the apparent Dahlia, I guess seeing if his brother was right.

"Huh. I mean I guess. But hey, at least we had some fun brotherly bonding right?" He said with an enormous amount of enthusiasm and sarcasm.

Nico just continued to glare at his brother, not saying a single word.

The two just continued to look at each other, Nico with his almost unblinking glare, and Master with his giddy look, apparently seeing who was going to break first.

Dahlia became noticeably more uncomfortable as the seconds continued, meanwhile I was just interested in this whole concept.

Was this what it's like to have siblings?

Not to mention that these vampires interacted very differently from the ones I had interacted with prior.

All of them were all serious and business but these, well, my master, was all laughs and sarcastic comments.

For now at least. I've heard vampires change when they're behind closed doors.

Apparently, Nico broke first, leaning back against the seat while he crossed his arms.

"Anyways," He began, "Are you going to give her a name or what?"

My eyes widened.

"Oh, yeah!"

I felt his hand on my head once again, forcing a gasp from my mouth as he turned my head to face him.

A small pain radiated from my bare thighs as I realized my nails were digging into them in some sort of anticipation.

Despite the fact that he just looked like he was thinking.

The knowledge that that could so quickly change was the mindset I guess I was sticking with.

"I dunno what do you think she looks like?" He asked, turning my head so I was facing Nico.

Nico rolled his eyes.

"I don't know. I usually just let them choose." He said.

I don't even know what I'd pick if I were given that choice.

Master turned to face me.

"You got any ideas?" He asked.

My eyes just widened, both from the shock from the question and the sudden realization that I didn't have an answer.

I'd purposely never thought about it because my pet mistress specifically told us not to.

Something about lost hopes and disappointment.

I felt a bit of relief that he didn't seem upset by my lack of an answer, but he seemed to soon find one for himself.

He turned back to Nico.

"Doe."

"Doe?" His brother repeated.

Doe?

"Yeah Doe," He confirmed, forcing me yet again to look at Nico, "Look at her eyes. She looks like a dear watching in horror as a mountain lion runs to take its next victim."

He finally released his hold on me, letting me finally take in a breath.

"Like a little prey." He finished.

My stomach turned.

"It fits," Nico admitted, turning his head to the window as the limo slowed to a stop.

I looked out the same window, seeing the castle that I had seen from a distance my entire life up close.

It was a lot bigger than I thought.

"Were back already?" Xander asked.

Nico hummed a short response, taking a black leash from his pocket and clipping it to Dahlia's collar.

"Good," Master said, licking his upper lip, "I gotta see what this one's made of"
