Isabelle Gilmore could have been someone very different.

Her name, at first, brings up the thought of old money — of snotty people who live in big houses that never see the same maid for more than three days, of girls in private school uniforms with lots of plaid, of country clubs with memberships that cost more than some people's rents, and old men playing golf. This is always the first impression, and it's not a wrong one, because all of those things are — or have been — in her life.

She kind of wishes they never were.

From the day she was born, Isabelle had her future laid out in front of her. She is Richard and Emily's youngest daughter — the do-over daughter. She was supposed to be different from Lorelai. She was supposed to go to Yale, marry some guy who works in finances or insurance (whatever the difference between these two is), she was supposed to be serious about her life. Her passion for figure skating might have been cute when she was a kid, but her parents couldn't believe that Isabelle had let it guide the most important decision of her life: her education and future career. Like, for god's sake, even Lorelai has a real job.

But this is all Isabelle is outside of her family: a figure skater. When she is on the ice, she's not a Gilmore Girl, the youngest daughter, or a disappointment. She's good.

She just hopes she's good enough to make up for everything else that isn't.

Eric Sterling needs to leave.

It isn't like he doesn't love Stars Hollow. He does. It is impossible not to love such an unique place. It's just that the town (and everyone living in it) is just so close that he feels like it has no room for him in it. No room for him to grow. And he needs to.

His father's business is failing, his brother is mad and upset about it, his mother is nowhere to be found and the rest of the Sterlings have given up on trying to make things work for them, so Eric can't give up.

He never really expected to have a career as a hockey player, but he knows it's his only saving grace. It's his ticket out of Stars Hollow and into a university in a big city, where he can study something sensible that will make his family's life better. The fact that he's good at it and that he loves it is just a bonus.

Isabelle could have everything handed to her. Her life could have been easy if she hadn't decided to go for something that not even money can buy. Eric's life couldn't have been anything but hard, and he's not trying to make it harder. There was no reason for them to ever cross paths, and, had Lorelai never moved to Stars Hollow, maybe they never would, but wasn't Stars Hollow built on the fate of star-crossed lovers?

heyyyy!!! so. don't ask what this is about because honestly i don't know. i mean. it's an oc/oc gilmore girls fic that could very well be an original story but it isn't because i don't want to do all of the work that an original story requires lmao so im just putting my ocs on a pre-made world like i'm playing sims. 

⛸️ so, first of all, isabelle is Lorelai's younger sister. Lorelai was about 14-15 when Isabelle was born, and Isabelle was about 2 when rory was born. At first I was wondering if i should go that direction or not, but then i was like... well my mom's 18 years older than her youngest brother (and he's only like 8 years older than me) so it's not like its super uncommon, right?? - also maybe the "gilmore oc" thing is kind of overdone, but since this fic is oc/oc, there really wouldn't be a reason for it to be a gilmore girls fic if my oc wasn't a gilmore, so! + i really want to explore the gilmore family dynamics with the addition of another sibling + i kind of want to get into emily's family, since we barely hear of them in the show and i have lots of personal headcanons about them

⛸️ the fic starts in season 1 with rory going to chilton and isabelle starting college and im not sure how far im going with it because honestly im mostly just winging it lmao tho i do have sort of a plan of how i want things to go, i'll just see when the ending i planned fits in the show timeline

⛸️ this is very romcom vibes but also kind of in a coming of age story kind of way?? i was very inspired by lady bird while planning it so there's that + there's the fact that im a figure skater and im really passionate about it, so I've always wanted to write a figure skater oc //// AND i love brenton thwaites i think he's so pretty and charming but i never found a character i could use him for so i made my own oc
