The Soul Binding Contract

I stared at the door. Music Room #3. The place where I can put my plan into action. The place where fresh hell is served on a silver platter.

I took a deep breath, clamped my mouth shut to avoid choking on a rose petal, and put my hand on the doorknob. My hand froze before I did anything else. Go on Yuki, I told myself. Just turn the knob. It's just a doorknob. I could hear voices on the other side of the door, and felt a wave of terror sweep over me at the prospect of all those people.

All right, this is no time to second guess myself. I steeled my courage, squeezed my eyes shut, and opened the door.

Things quieted down almost instantly, and I opened my eyes. Everyone was staring at me, clearly confused.

"Hello," I said. My voice, though hollow, had an unmistakable edge of fear in it.

I just stood there, completely rigid, and prayed that everyone would go back to whatever it was that they had been doing before I walked in. Eventually, they did, and I breathed a sigh of relief, although I didn't move.

After a while, I began to actually watch what was going on, so I could figure who I would try to lower my guard to first.

There was Honey, who was apparently a third year, despite looking like he was nine. He seemed to be a cutesy kid who didn't act his age. There was Mori, who didn't seem do much. There were the twins, who were in my class, but after seeing their "Brotherly Love" thing, I decided that was a no go. There was Tamaki, who was way too over the top for my liking. There was Kyoya, who just spent the time typing on his laptop and occasionally writing stuff in his notebook. While he seemed pretty calm, he freaked me out a little bit. And finally, there was Haruhi, a scholarship student who seemed pretty nice. I wasn't sure why she was dressed in a boy's uniform, but it wasn't really my business, so I didn't really care.

I sighed a little bit. It looked like no matter who I got stuck with first, I would have to talk to the money manager, aka Kyoya.

I walked over, smiling the fake smile that I often wore when speaking to anyone of any stature. "Hello," I said, trying to sound chipper, but really just sounding like I had a sore throat.

Kyoya looked up. "May I help you?" he asked. He sounded annoyed.

"Yes actually. I was wondering how this works. Because I'm completely unsure of what to do," I said.

Kyoya sighed. "You pick a host, and then go sit with them. It's not that complicated, Miss Yume," he said.

"How do you know my last name?" I narrowed my eyes. "Are you a stalker?" I accused.

"No, but you are a transfer student, so I'm not sure why you're surprised."

I nodded. That made sense. "Okay. Thanks," I said, walking over to the most sane seeming person here, Haruhi.

"Uh, hello. I'm Yuki, and I was wondering if I could have a seat?" I asked politely. "I'm trying to figure out what this place is all about, and figured that this would be a safe place to find that out. You seem more... sane than the rest of them."

"Sure thing," Haruhi said. I sat down, and listened to the customers talking. It was a completely foreign environment, so I decided it would be better to observe than to talk.

However, before I could truly adjust, the club hours ended, and it was time to leave. "Bye!" I said, starting to walk out. Upon reaching the door, however, I found Hannah blocking my path.

"Hannah?" I asked. "What are you doing here?"

She smiled evilly at me, and I felt a shiver run down my spine. "Hannah?"

She grabbed my wrist in her surprisingly strong hands, and dragged me back into the club room.

The club members looked from Hannah, to me, and then back to Hannah.

"Sorry, club activities have ended for the day," said Kyoya.

Hannah shook her head. "Actually, we're here to talk to you guys. See, Yuki here wants to join the host club. She's just too awkward to say anything."

"What?! Hannah, I-" Hannah covered my mouth with her hands, stopping me from arguing any further.

For a few moments, it was silent. And awkward. Very, very awkward. Tamaki was the first one to break the silence, much to my relief. "Men, huddle up to discuss this matter!" he shouted, pulling everyone into a huddle.

Meanwhile, I was talking to Hannah. "Okay, what are you thinking?" I whisper shouted. "I don't want to join this merry band of idiots!"

Hannah sighed. "I'm advancing the plot, obviously. If it were up to you, it would be another fifty chapters before anything happened," she said, shrugging.

Suddenly, everything went dark except for the text on the screen.

I shook my head for a moment, wondering why Hannah was passed on the ground with a massive welt on her forehead. Then I looked at the table that I had no recollection of moving to. On it was a piece of paper.

"'Soul Binding Contract?'" I read aloud. "What is this?"

Kyoya smirked, and pushed up his glasses. "It's a contract. Your contract, might I add."

"Mine?" I asked. "But it's not mine unless I've signed it, right?"

"But, Yu-chan," said Honey. "You did sign it. See?" he said, pointing to the bottom.

"You're crazy," I declared. "I didn't sign a con...tract?" I stared at the contract, which bore my signature, plain as day. "But how?"

We all stared at each other. None of us could remember me signing the contract, but then again, I could recognize my own signature any day.

"Welcome to the host club, Yu-chan!" said Honey.

Hannah, what did you get me into?
