"Aw man, you just missed the action!"
"Julian, I really don't have time for your shit. What the fuck are you doing at my house?"
"You're not being nice to the person who just got your parents arrested." Julian pointed to a police car that was at the end of the street.
"You... What?"
Julian shrugged and stood up. "I owe you one. I came to the realization that I kinda ruined your life while I was on my run by the beach and I heard everything that those dumbass girls were saying. By the way, there's no pictures to post. I deleted them as soon as I heard that you know who planned on getting one of them from me so that she could post it and try and sabotage your reputation. Once I heard that, I found some pretty interesting pictures that involve her." Julian had a smirk on his face. "Let's just say that your reputation won't be the one that's going down on Monday morning. Trust me on that."
Before you could ask any questions, Julian stood up and hurried off to wherever he intended to go after leaving the spot he had sitting on when you arrived at your house.
*****
"Julian called the cops on my parents?" You said it out loud while you were packing up your stuff because you've said it in your head so many times to the point where it became much more unbelievable than it was when he first told you that he had done it. Julian had actually done something nice for you. Not only that, but he had apparently posted pictures to destroy his ex-girlfriend's reputation when she threatened to destroy yours.
The ex-girlfriend that he had cheated on you with.
Why exactly had Julian done all of this?
Was he changing back to the Julian he was back when you two were together?
It sorta seemed like it, but you didn't want to get your hopes up because things seemed way too good to be true.
"Wait, you drive?" You could hardly believe your eyes when you saw Mark sitting in the driver's seat of what you assumed to be his red Jetta Volkswagen.
Yeah. I kinda assumed you figured that out when I told you that I would pick you up when you had all your stuff packed up.
"No, I thought you meant that your mom would come and pick me up and you would be sitting in the passenger or back seat."
Well, I'm sitting in the driver's seat. Mark smiled a bit.
"Yes, I see that. But how come you walk everywhere if you can drive?"
Well, it saves money on gas and besides, I like walking way more than I like driving.
"It'd probably be a good idea for me to get my license but I'm really lazy." You laughed a little.
I was really lazy too. But my parents kept bugging me to get my license so I ended up getting tired of hearing it and getting off my lazy ass and getting my license.
"Nice." You laughed a little once more.
What are you waiting for? Get in the car. Mark smiled.
"You didn't even say "please" you jerk." You smiled back as you went over to one of the back doors and opened it so that you could put your stuff in the back seat. After doing so, you closed the back door and went over to the passenger door and opened it. Mark moved his dry erase board from the passenger seat to the middle back seat once you opened the door.
"Where exactly are we going?" You asked Mark once you had sat down and had strapped in your seat belt.
I can't tell you. It's a surprise. Mark added a smiley face at the end, which is something that he hadn't done for quite a while. You even remembered the last time that he did it. It was when you had gone to the park and had seen him by pure coincidence.
"Aw man, I don't like surprises though!"
You'll like this one. Well, I hope you will at least.
"I'll be very disappointed if I don't." You smiled so that he knew that you were joking when you said this.
Do you trust me? Mark's question caught you off guard because he asked you this so suddenly.
"Yeah, of course I do. Why?"
Mark pulled what appeared to be a bandana out of his pocket and showed it to you. Don't let yourself think this is some kinky shit because it's not. I just don't want you looking while I drive us to the place.
"What made you think that I was thinking of kinky shit when I saw that bandana?"
The look in your eyes told me everything that I needed to know.
"Why must you be so good at reading people?"
Mark simply shrugged in response.
"Blindfold me."
Turn your head towards me then.
You did what you were instructed to do and you saw the black material of the bandana as you felt Mark tying it around your head. A few moments later, you heard him starting the car and you decided to pull the bandana up ever so slightly to see how Mark would react.
I see you trying to peek (Y/N). Don't ruin the surprise. You struggled at first to make out what Mark had written on his dry erase board but you managed to do it after a few moments.
"Fine. I won't ruin the surprise, I promise."
*****
"Jesus. Mark, how much longer until I can take this off? It's really boring just sitting here."
Almost as soon as you said that, you felt the car stopping and heard Mark turning it off a moment later. You then heard the keys jingling as you assumed Mark put them into his pocket. You then felt him tugging at the knot he had made when he had tied the bandana around the back of your head. Once the bandana was off, he put it in the glove box that was across from where you were sitting.
We're here.
He started getting out of the car without another word and you did the same thing. When you closed your door behind you, you heard the car locking and saw Mark putting his keys back into his pocket out of the corner of your eye.
Looking around, it didn't take that long at all to figure out just where the two of you were.
You were at a fair.
But it wasn't a fair in Cincinnati, that's for sure. Mark had drove for way too long for this to be in Cincinnati. Besides, Cincinnati didn't have a fair at this time of year anyways.
"Mark, where are we?"
We're in Columbus. This is the Halloween fair.
"So you're telling me that you drove for almost two hours just for us to go to a fair?"
Yeah... Mark previously had a look of excitement on his face but that look faded to one of sadness. You don't like the surprise, do you? Here, we can just go home then.
"Wait!" You stopped him before he could even pull his key out to unlock the car. "When I said that, I didn't mean that I didn't like the surprise."
You didn't?
"Of course not. I love the surprise. I was just, well, for lack of a better word, surprised that you drove all the way to Columbus."
So that means that you want to go to the fair?
"Of course it does you goofball." You laughed as you went over to where he was and lightly shoved him. "But where exactly do you propose we get costumes? This is a Halloween fair after all."
There's a costume shop that's about a five minute walk from here. We can get our costumes from there.
"Sounds good. Can you unlock the car so that I can get my wallet out of my purse?"
No way. I'm going to pay for your costume.
"No, you don't have to do that. I have the money to get it. Now, can you pretty please unlock the car?"
Mark shook his head. (Y/N), I insist on buying you a costume and you're not going to convince me otherwise.
"Fine, if that is what you wish." You smiled. After a moment, you pulled him in close to you and gave him a quick and tight hug. "Thank you."
It's no problem really. We better get going because the fair starts in about two hours.
*****
So, what do you say that we make our costume purchasing adventure fun?
"What do you mean?" You asked Mark when the two of you had arrived at the costume shop.
What I mean is that we should make our costume purchasing adventure fun by picking out costumes for each other.
"That sounds like a wonderful idea." You smiled as you looked around at the hundreds of selections that were all over the costume shop. "We'll meet back here when we've made our selections."
Sounds like a plan. Mark then started heading on the right side of the costume shop and you decided that you would start looking for what you wanted his costume to be on the opposite side of the costume shop.
While you were looking, your mind suddenly flashed back to the day that you had met Mark. At first, you were confused as to why you were remembering this as it seemed so out of place but you realized something that you had briefly glanced over at the time.
Mark had worn a Legend Of Zelda shirt that day.
Looking back, you remembered that the shirt was a shade of green and it had had the Triforce on it. You didn't really remember anything else about it since you were only somewhat familiar with the series, but you did remember that the shirt was barely allowed by the school dress code since it had been a tank top, but it had covered Mark's shoulders. For some odd reason, it had always been a part of the school dress code that shoulders must be covered and you didn't really understand why because it wasn't like shoulders were distracting.
Nonetheless, you looked around the aisle you were in and noticed that there was a Link costume at the very end. You quickly went over to it and noticed that it came included with everything that Link normally wore, even the boots.
"I can totally imagine Mark wearing this." You whispered to yourself as you grabbed the costume from the hook it was hanging on, making sure to check the size before deciding that you thought that Mark would fit into it. You started heading back to the spot that you and Mark agreed to meet back at.
*****
"Okay, can I show you what I picked out first?" You asked Mark excitedly once he had returned to the meeting spot. You had the costume hidden behind your back so that he couldn't see it.
Mark smiled and nodded.
You smiled back as you pulled the costume out from behind your back.
Mark suddenly got really excited and showed you the costume he had picked out for you.
It was a Zelda costume.
"I love it. Do you love yours?"
Mark nodded again as the smile on his face got bigger.
"I'm glad. We'll have to go to the mall and change in the bathrooms there."
Sounds good. Mark took the Link costume from you and struggled to add on what he had already written. You go wait outside while I pay for the costumes.
*****
I'm finished changing. Are you done yet? You texted Mark after you were completely done getting your costume on and putting on your makeup. The fair started in about ten minutes so the two of you would have to hurry in order to get there.
I've been ready for a little bit now. Mark added a smiley face to the end of his text.
Hey, it's not my fault that I had to struggle with making the wig look exactly like Zelda's hair and then put on my makeup!
Oh, I'm really excited to see it now.
You weren't excited before?
Of course I was excited before. But now I'm even more excited.
You felt a big smile form on your face when you stepped out of the bathroom and saw Mark in his Link costume. He wasn't wearing the wig that came with the costume but you thought that he looked better without it anyways.
"You look great you nerd." You smiled as you lightly punched him on the shoulder.
Mark poked you with his sword in response. It was pretty much impossible for him to write because he was holding a sword in one hand and a shield in another. The bag that contained his regular clothes was slung around his shoulder like yours was.
You spun around lightly, being careful to not knock the wig off of your head. "Do you think I look great?"
Mark nodded.
"Thanks." You checked the time using your phone. "We better get going. Let's hurry up and drop our bags off at your car and get going to the fair."
*****
"It's weird seeing you not wearing your flower crown." You said to Mark after you had bought your tickets to get into the fair. "I almost feel like it's a part of you."
Mark began writing his response. His sword was hanging on his side due to the fact that his belt that was a part of the costume and his shield was hanging on his lower right arm by the two straps that were inside of the shield.
A part of me? What do you mean?
"I mean that I really like it when you wear your flower crown. It fits you so well and I'm kinda missing you not wearing it."
Well, I'm not technically myself right now. I'm Link. Last time I checked, Link didn't wear a flower crown. Mark smiled.
"Yeah, I suppose that's true." You stopped in your tracks when you saw a giant Ferris Wheel not too far from where you were standing. "We totally need to ride the Ferris Wheel!"
I'm so glad I bought those wristbands that allow us to ride as many rides as we want then. Mark pulled two light purple wristbands out of his pocket a moment later.
"You did? When do you do that?"
I bought them when you had to go and adjust your wig and dress.
"Why are you so amazing?"
Mark didn't say anything as he put the wristband around your right wrist and handed the other wristband to you. He held out his arm and you put the other wristband around his wrist, making sure it was secure.
"Let's go before the line gets too long."
"I like your guys' costumes. They look just like the characters. I also like how you went with brown-haired Zelda instead of blonde Zelda."
"Thanks." You smiled at the ride operator as he opened the door to the passenger car and you carefully stepped inside of it, lifting your dress up slightly so that you wouldn't step on it and possibly trip.
"No problem. You guys are doing the costume contest?"
"There's a costume contest?"
"Yeah, there's one every single year. The top three best costumes win a medal and some cash."
"That sounds like a ton of fun." You looked over at Mark, who nodded in agreement.
"I'm assuming that you guys are going out for the Best Couple's Costume category?"
"What? No, we're not-"
"Have fun on the ride!" The ride operator closed the door to the passenger car before you could finish your sentence. "I'll be sure to cast my vote for you two."
"We're not-" You sighed and gave up correcting him since he had already moved out of earshot. You instead finished your sentence by muttering, "We're not a couple. We're just friends. Our relationship is purely platonic."
"Your ears are so cute." You poked the elf-like ears that Mark was wearing as he sat down next to you.
Yours are too. Mark poked the same elf-like ears you were wearing.
As the Ferris Wheel began slowly going up, a sad look seem to fall on Mark's face.
"Mark? Is everything okay?"
He seemed to be caught off guard by the question. Huh? Did you say something?
"Yeah. I asked you if everything was okay."
Yes, of course everything's okay. I'm here at the Halloween fair. How could things not be okay?
"I don't know. You just looked sad and I wanted to make sure that you were doing okay."
I'm doing just fine.
You suddenly got the feeling that he was lying and that feeling only increased when the Ferris Wheel stopped at the highest point it could reach and tears started streaming down Mark's face.
