26 - Shattered Glass Bubbles..
"Do you like your steak?"
Jungkook raised his head up to look at the girl in front of him. Sana had a soft smile on her face, and a certain shine in her eyes. She had been nothing but polite and Jungkook felt terrible for the situation they were in right now.
As soon as he let Taehyung walk out of the restaurant, Jungkook regretted it. He regretted not listening to the text warning, regretted not trusting the other cause he knew in his heart that Taehyung would never betray him like that. But what he regretted most is for unknowingly giving a wrong idea to Sana.
Jungkook managed to put two and two together, with what Sana said about Taehyung having an urgency and Taehyung's message about a date, that the one she is interested in was not Taehyung. Many things that happened at the drama set and out of it, started to shine in a different light now.
And the conclusion.. him and Taehyung both had been utter fools. Sana doesn't deserve to be played like that, however unknowingly. Jungkook just hopes that it will not impact the drama in any way.
"J-jungkook Oppa?" Sana looked a little confused at the lack of response to her question. "You seem a little lost."
"Sorry." Jungkook quickly apologized. "Yeah- Sorry, you asked something right?"
"Uhh.. yeah, about your steak. Do you like it?"
"Yes, it's delicious. Thanks, Sana." Jungkook managed to give a little smile to the girl, and his heart fell at the way her cheeks started to get dusted with a red hue.
"This place belongs to one of my friend's dad. I come here often."
"Hmm.. is that so?"
"Yeah. I thought this would be a good place for dinner because.. you know.. it's a safe place from paparazzi and all."
Although he knew very well that it's gonna be a futile attempt, Jungkook couldn't help but try to prolong the inevitable. And maybe give the girl a way out, before she convey her emotions.
Like a coward, Jungkook averted his gaze. "No big deal. It's just dinner, right?"
'Just say it is. Please…' Jungkook pryed in his head. 'Please, Sana, please just don't go there.'
There was a silence for a few seconds before Sana spoke up in a shy voice. "I was hoping for it to be something more."
'Shit!!' Jungkook cursed in his mind, before placing his utensils carefully on the plate.
"Sana.." he started to speak, but didn't know what to say.
Luckily for him, the girl was able to read his face. "Oh.."
"Look, you're a wonderful person." Jungkook rushed to assure her. "Anybody would be lucky to have a chance of your attention. But.."
"But not you, right?" The girl kept her composure and smiled, but Jungkook could see the slight trembling of her lower lip.
He sighed and lowered his head. "I'm really sorry."
"Please, you don't have to apologize. It's not your fault. I mean, nobody's at fault here, right? We can just forget about it. Right? Shit! I shouldn't have said anything-"
"-Sana."
The girl stopped her panicked rumble and looked at Jungkook.
Jungkook slowly placed his hand on Sana's hand. "I'm sorry."
The girl let their hands stay connected for a moment before pulling her hand out. She placed both her hands on her lap. "Yeah, me too."
They sat in silence for about a minute and when the silence started to feel uncomfortable, Jungkook picked up his utensils and resumed eating. "This steak is really delicious. How about your Piccata?"
After a few seconds of pause, Sana picked up her utensils too. "Wonderful."
Rest of the dinner was awkward. Both tried to make small talk and lighten up the mood but it was not successful. Sana, of course, was heartbroken. And Jungkook had so many questions running in his mind that he found it hard to concentrate on anything else. They skipped desserts and both were relieved when it was time to go.
"Well," Jungkook said as he walked Sana to her van, where her driver was waiting. "I know this is not what you expected but I still hope I was good company."
"Of course you were, Oppa."
All the way to his apartment, the same set of questions ran through Jungkook's mind. And he needed to get answers as soon as possible.

"We need to talk."
In the past half an hour, Taehyung must have looked at that message about a hundred times. He was still wearing the same clothes he came in, as he did nothing but sit on the sofa and stare at the TV. But not before taking out a bottle of whisky, of which about one third is already finished.
He was deep in thoughts, when the front door opened. His head snapped towards the door at the sound and saw Jungkook walking in. The latter made a straight beeline to the living room and sat on the armchair, with a determined look on his face.
"Whiskey?" Taehyung waited till Jungkook gave a nod, before getting up to get another glass.
Once he's back, he poured a glass for Jungkook and pushed it onto his hand. Jungkook took a few sips, before putting it back on the table.
"How's the dinner?"
"Excellent. Delicious steak, you should try it one day."
"And the company?"
Jungkook scoffed at that. "Can't believe you set me up on a date with someone else. Why the fuck did you leave?"
"I thought you wanted to have a date with her." Taehyung twirled the glass in his hand, making the liquid go round and round. "I told you not to come. Why didn't you listen?"
"I was angry, okay?!"
"Angry? Hmm.. I wonder why."
"Nowhere in your text you said she wanted to have a date with me. You simply said she wanted a date and for me not to come."
Taehyung thought back to his text. Yeah, guess he did fail to mention that tiny fact. "So you thought I wanted to have a date with her?"
Jungkook shrugged his shoulders. "Can you blame me? You two are always talking and laughing and whatnot! Everyone kept telling how good you look together. And then you send a text like that! What the hell was I supposed to think?!"
Taehyung slammed his glass on the table and sprang to his feet. "She was talking about you, damn it! She has a huge crush on you. I was just trying to keep her away from you!!"
Jungkook stood up too. "And how the fuck am I supposed to know that?! Huh?! Why didn't you tell me?"
Taehyung didn't answer. He poured another shot and drank it all in one go. Jungkook waited a few seconds for an answer and when it was clear that he was not getting one, he took two steps and stood in front of Taehyung.
"All the time, all the fucking time I talked to you about her. All the times I told you how uncomfortable it made me feel, how jealous it made me feel, how fucking insecure it made me feel.." Jungkook ran a hand through his hair in frustration. "You didn't think it was important enough to mention that she's not interested in you?! Not one goddamn time??!!"
"You don't understand." Taehyung mumbled a reply under his breath, half hoping Jungkook wouldn't hear it.
But he did. "Then make me understand! Taehyung, please, make it make sense!!"
"I thought something might happen, okay?!" Taehyung's head was starting to get a little clouded due to all the whisky he had. "I thought you might-"
"-You thought I might start something with her, if I knew about it? Is that it?"
Taehyung didn't answer. He didn't have to. The answer was clear to Jungkook, by having just one look at the other's face.
"You didn't trust me." Jungkook's voice sounded shocked. Broken.
Taehyung will blame the alcohol in his body for the way he failed to recognise the crack that was starting to spread through their perfect glass bubble. Really, he should have heard it even, the sound had to be deafening. He should have held on to it tightly. But instead, he delivered the final blow, shattering it into pieces.
"Well, if you thought I was about to have a date with her, you didn't trust me either." Taehyung looked straight at his boyfriend of 8 years. "So where does it leave us?"
