24 - My Loyalty Is To You..
The day Taehyung started to go back to shooting, was both good and bad. Good, because Taehyung was starting to really lose his mind staying at home. Jungkook had never seen him this agitated, irritated and downright unbearable to stand. Little arguments were happening more frequently, some words were thrown out without meaning and a full-blown fight seemed just around the corner. And to avoid that, they spent more than one night in separate apartments. It was a relief for both of them when Taehyung went back to work.
But on the other hand, it was bad because Jungkook frankly didn't want Taehyung anywhere near Sana. By now, Jungkook was almost convinced that Taehyung had some sort of feelings towards the girl. He still trusted Taehyung and knew that he would never cheat, hence the irritation in his behavior. It's even worse since Jungkook didn't have any shooting for a few days, since they were recording the scenes between two main leads.
So now, it was Jungkook's turn to imagine what would happen at the drama set and get frustrated over it. And each day when Taehyung came home, he seemed to be in a good mood, slowly confirming Jungkook's doubts.
Taehyung was indeed happy. Partially because he got to go work again. The familiarity of all the buzz in the drama set was the norm for Taehyung. He absolutely loved it. He is an actor, this is what he was born to do.
And if the fact that Jungkook and Sana are not interacting made him even happier, no one had to know that.
The only thing that gotten worse was the tension between Taehyung and Jungkook. And it reached a zenith when they had their scenes together. It was kind of inevitable as almost all of them were not happy ones.
"I thought you were my best friend, Min-Hyuk-ah!! I never thought you'd back stab me like this!"
"I-I'd never do that, Han Sang-ah. Y-you don't know anything!"
"What more do I need to know?! I saw you with Areum, holding her hand. You knew how I felt about her! You know I love her!!"
"Why won't you just listen to me first before-"
"-No, I don't want to listen to anything! You- you betrayed me.."
"Well, you betrayed me too!"
Taehyung immediately recognised that the last line was not in the script. But it's a common thing for actors to improvise according to the mood of the scene. Sometimes the best scenes of a drama are a result of improvisation. Plus, Yoongi didn't interrupt yet so Taehyung decided to play along too.
"What?"
"Your loyalty should be to me!"
The moment those words were out of his mouth, Jungkook knew that he messed up. He had wandered away from his character and the story they were supposed to tell. He had gotten so off road that the last line was said by Jungkook to Taehyung, not their drama counterparts. But to his surprise, Taehyung was still playing along. So he steered it back on course.
"What are you talking about, Min-Hyuk-ah?"
"Forget it, think whatever you want."
The next step was to throw the friendship bracelet on his hand towards Taehyung's feet and storm away. Jungkook only had to take a few feet when Yoongi's 'Cut!!' rang through the set.
"Excellent! Both of you." Yoongi said with a small smile. "Jungkook, I'm not sure about the additional dialogue there. It certainly matched the mood but I think I'll have to recheck the scenes a bit."
"Oh.." Jungkook shifted from one leg to the other in nervousness. "I'm sorry, it just felt right with the situation. Do we have to take that again?"
Yoongi thought for a few seconds before answering. "No. I'll get it edited out if needed. Let's get ready for the next shot."
Both were sitting on their artist chairs, getting their makeup fixed when Taehyung decided to ask Jungkook about the improvisation.
"Your loyalty should be to me?"
Jungkook glanced sideways at Taehyung, before focusing back on the mirror. "Thay are friends." Jungkook shrugged his shoulders. "He should have valued it more."
Taehyung raised his eyebrows at that. "Friendship and love are two different relationships."
Jungkook knew that he was being unreasonable but he still couldn't stop the words spilling from his mouth. "Yeah, but the line seems to be getting blurred once in a while."
One of the advantages of being with someone for so many years is that you learn to read between the lines when it comes to them. It wasn't that hard for Taehyung to know that Jungkook wasn't talking about the drama anymore. Before he could ask the other what he meant, they heard Yoongi's voice, calling them for the next shoot.
And once again, it was a scene of MinHyuk and HanSang fighting. It was the scene where MinHyuk admits to HanSang that he also has feelings for Aerum. The confident and unapologetic look in Jungkook's eyes, pissed off Taehyung so badly that Yoongi had to call for a small break.
It was not unusual for actors to over portray their characters but it's not something that had ever happened to Taehyung.
"I'm sorry guys, give me ten minutes." Taehyung apologized, before he stormed over to his trailer.
After a few seconds of contemplating, Jungkook followed him too. They have a friendship established now so no one found it strange.
Taehyung snapped his head towards the door at the sound of it opening. He wanted to ask whoever it was to leave, but the words died in his throat when he saw Jungkook standing there.
Jungkook waited for a few seconds for Taehyung's permission to come into his trailer but the other just turned his head back. Jungkook sighed and went in, closing the door behind him.
"What's wrong?" Jungkook asked as he plopped onto the armchair. "What happened to you back there?"
"Nothing." Taehyung's voice had a strange edge, something that Jungkook was not familiar with.
"Well, it's obviously something, if you had to take a break."
"Things like this happen while shooting. We can't always keep our emotions in control. It's perfectly normal."
Jungkook scoffed at that. "Yeah, what do I know about acting, right?"
Now it was Taehyung's turn to sigh. "You know I didn't mean it like that, Jungkook."
"Then how did you mean it, Taehyung?"
That made Taehyung finally turn to look at the other. Both stared at each other but it lacked the usual warmth. After a few seconds, Jungkook broke eye contact and got up from the chair.
"Whatever! Just hurry up."
He was almost at the door, one hand over the handle to open it, when a body pressed his back. Taehyung tangled his fingers over Jungkook's and gently pulled the other's hand away from the door handle. Jungkook let himself relax and be pressed up against the door. His entire body was sandwiched between the door and Taehyung's body.
"Don't fucking piss me off." Taehyung growled into Jungkook's ear, making a shiver go through the latter's spine.
"Wasn't doing anything." Jungkook answered in a barely audible voice.
"Still." Taehyung leaned his head on Jungkook's shoulder, breathing in that familiar scene of his boyfriend. "Still you make me mad."
"I'm sorry." And Jungkook really was sorry. For this situation, and for allowing them to drift away like this.
They stayed like that for about a minute, before Taehyung pulled back to give the other some space. Jungkook turned around to look at Taehyung, and his heart felt a little lighter by seeing the familiar affection in it.
He gave a small nod and opened the door. Jungkook had only taken a few steps when he heard Taehyung calling his name.
"Jungkook!"
The idol turned to look at Taehyung walking fast toward him, and stopping in front of him. "Yeah?"
Taehyung leaned a bit forward so that only Jungkook could hear what he's saying but at the same time, maintaining a reasonable distance since they were out in the open right now.
"My loyalty is to you, baby. Always have been. And always will be."
And the relief that filled Jungkook's heart was what alerted him that he had already begun to doubt it.
