Chapter 33 - Surprise
It's been a couple of days since Jang Mi went out to get a cup of coffee with Choi Seung-Hyun's mom. Lately, Jang Mi has been on the edge. It was because of the lack of communication between Jang Mi and her mother. Having a cup of coffee with someone else's mother reminded her that she too has a mom to worry about. This was the longest she hadn't contacted Jang Mi. Jang Mi had no idea what her mom was up to but she knew it wasn't good. She feared that this was the quiet before the storm. The thing that worried her the most was her mom would stoop so low and hurt Choi Seung-Hyun who had no involvement in Jang Mi's business.
However, Jang Mi couldn't ponder too much about it because of Choi Seung-Hyun. She couldn't deny how happy she was just by the thought of her boyfriend. Jang Mi felt a small smile pull up at the corner of her lips. Boyfriend? Jang Mi thought to herself. It's a word she wasn't quite used to. He's been the best boyfriend anyone could ask for. They were hardly separated unless Choi Seung-Hyun or Jang Mi had a schedule. They were less careful about where they went together in public. They held hands in public and hugged each other in public. The entertainment world noticed it too. People were wondering why YG Entertainment hadn't confirmed their relationship status when Choi Seung-Hyun and Jang Mi were often caught kissing in public on many occasions.
Jang Mi was going to meet Choi Seung-Hyun at a restaurant where customers received their own private room. They both wanted to be together away from the eyes of the media. Since Choi Seung-Hyun had a busy schedule, they were arriving separately. Jang Mi didn't mind a bit, she was just happy it's nice and warm inside. Jang Mi was dressed for the cold weather too. She wore a black coat that stopped mid thigh and a white dress under it. She wore white stocking and boots to help her walk through the streets of Seoul that were covered with snow. Her hair fell effortlessly around her and it blew with the wind.
Jang Mi entered the room and took her coat off. She sat in the chair and waited. Lately, Jang Mi couldn't help but constantly wear makeup in front of Choi Seung-Hyun. She felt like the least she could do as Choi Seung-Hyun's girlfriend was to look good or at least better than any girl in the room. She wanted this relationship with Choi Seung-Hyun to go as smoothly as a relationship could go. Although Choi Seung-Hyun picked on her every now and then, Jang Mi had a hard time staying mad at him. She knew he made her angry on purpose she just didn't know why.
Jang Mi's thoights stopped when she heard the door open. Jang Mi stood up, patting down the non-existent creases on the dress. She was so preoccupied with her dress having creases, she never looked up.
"You're finally here. I was starting to get worried." Jang Mi chuckled and then looked at the door. To Jang Mi's surprise, it was not Choi Seung-Hyun. "What the hell are you doing here?" Jang Mi snapped.
Jang Mi's head snapped to her right side as her hand went to nurse her redden cheek. "That's no way to speak to your mother." Jang Mi glared at her mom who held her head high. "I've been following you and your brother for quite some time now."
Jang Mi couldn't move due to the shock of seeing her mom after so long. "You leave oppa alone. You're business with oppa is over the day dad passed away."
Completely ignoring Jang Mi, she continued with her speech. "What? You're an actress now? You can act? With who's permission? You could've been a good star in America if you just stayed with me. And I hear you're dating a rapper! His real name is Choi Seung-Hyun but stage name is T.O.P. Cute. If you like those type of things." She scoffed.
Jang Mi didn't want Choi Seung-Hyun to be involved in her problems, especially if they involved her mom. She couldn't even handle her own mother speaking about him as if she knew him. She had to make sure her mom knew that Jang Mi had no feelings for him whatsoever. She had to make her believe that anyway. If her mother found out how much Jang Mi actually cared for Choi Seung-Hyun, she'd use him to threaten her. She's done it once so she never put it pass her to do it again. And if he got hurt because of her Jang Mi wasn't sure what she'd do. She didn't even want to imagine Choi Seung-Hyun in any pain, it would break her heart.
"What rapper? Choi Seung-Hyun?" Jang Mi laughed as her acting skills kicked in. "You think I care about someone like Choi Seung-Hyun? Don't kid yourself. I'm still your daughter." Jang Mi's heart cracked a little as those words escaped her mouth. "I'm with him to kill time. Plus, he's my sunbae so he easily gives me more fame than I could get by myself."
Jang Mi eyed her mom weirdly as she gave out a loud laugh. "You really love him!" She scoffed. "Your acting may fool anyone but I can tell how much you're in love with that rapper." Her mom teased.
Jang Mi scoffed. "Why would I love Choi Seung-Hyun? Our whole relationship started out fake. I don't easily fall like that." Jang Mi smelt a smell she was too familiar with but she held her ground and continued with her argument. "I don't care what you have to say. I don't have a mom so don't appear in front of me or in front of oppa." Jang Mi turned and grabbed all her belongings.
"I carried you for nine months! I carried both of you. I changed every diaper. I'm the one who decides when you're my daughter and when you're not my daughter. The same goes for your brother." Jang Mi eyed her shocked by her threats before finally leaving.
Jang Mi ran out of the restaurant and she jumped onto the first bus she saw at the bus stop. She didn't know where it was going just that it would take her away from her mom. Tears had finally made their way to the surface, and regardless of the people staring at Jang Mi on the bus, she cried. Tears of her past started to flow forward and she couldn't understand why her mom would act in such a way. Jang Mi couldn't understand why a mom would act that way towards her child.
Jang Mi's thoughts went over to Choi Seung-Hyun. Choi Seung-Hyun. She repeated it to herself. The thought of just leaving the restaurant behind came to her thoughts. She'd leave him behind. She didn't want him to worry, so she texted him.
