Chapter 30 - Cuddle Buddy
Jang Mi felt her energy level sink below the ground. Just hours after leaving the house that belonged to Choi Seung-Hyun's mother, Jang Mi currently sat on the floor of Choi Seung-Hyun's living room. Choi Seung-Hyun was behind her, with his legs on either side of her and his arms wrapped around her frame. His chin propped perfectly on Jang Mi's shoulder as he paid attention to the movie that played. He subconsciously drew small patterns on her arm that often distracted Jang Mi from the thoughts that ran around her mind.
During the dinner at Choi Seung-Hyun's house, she witnessed a few things. Like the way Choi Seung-Hyun's mom showed love and affection towards her kids. She would often kiss Choi Seung-Hyun's forehead when she passed by or she would pat Choi Hye-yoon's arm when she needed support. She continued to watch the exchange between a mother and her children and she felt sadden by it.
"Jang Mi, what do your parents do?" Choi Seung-Hyun's mom asked Jang Mi.
She stiffened but answered her. "My mom is a music teacher in America and my dad was a cop." Jang Mi smiled sadly.
"Was? Did your dad quit his job?" She continued to dig into Jang Mi's past.
"Ah...no, he passed away about four years ago." Jang Mi's smile grew bigger, helping her reassure herself.
Choi Seung-Hyun's mom gasped. "I'm so sorry. Aigoo." She said pounding her small fist against her chest. "You must've been so alone." Choi Seung-Hyun's mom took Jang Mi's hands into hers and rubbed it, in an effort to comfort her. "And you were in a foreign country with no knowledge. Aigoo, you poor thing." She sighed.
(I know it sounds sarcastic but it's not. Elders often talk like this.)
Jang Mi enjoyed the feeling of her hands being held by a mother figure. She liked the feeling of having someone like Choi Seung-Hyun's mom worry about her. It made her heart warm just thinking about it.
"It's fine. I was well taken care of by my oppa." Jang Mi reassured them.
"Your oppa?" Choi Hye-yoon asked with her ears more in the conversation.
"Yeah, he took good care of me."
Hye-yoon nodded. "What does he do?" She asked eyeing me.
"You're not trying to get a date through my girlfriend right?" Choi Seung-Hyun asked his sister.
It caused Hye-yoon to blush and everyone in the room to laugh. She flicked Choi Seung-Hyun's forehead hard causing him to groan in pain. Everyone continued to laugh, even now as Choi Seung-Hyun held Jang Mi, she chuckled a small chuckle.
"What are you laughing about?" He asked.
Jang Mi turned and flushed red by the closeness of their faces. "I really like your family." She smiled.
Choi Seung-Hyun's eyes left hers and focused onto her pink lips. Ever so slowly, he claimed her lips with his, kissing her passionately like he did the last time. His hand cupped her cheek as she leaned more back into him. The smell of vanilla engulfed him and the taste of strawberries filled his mouth from their earlier snack. Choi Seung-Hyun is an actor, so kissing came naturally to him because he's done it on many occasions. However, the feeling Jang Mi gave him as she let him lead the kiss with utmost emotion, knocked every girl he has ever kissed out.
Choi Seung-Hyun pulled away and placed a few small kisses along her neck down to her shoulder. "I think they like you too."
Jang Mi smiled happily. She was content about the way things were. Jang Mi would have never guessed that she would date the all charismatic king, Choi Seung-Hyun. She barely had friends but a boyfriend? She never would have guessed that in four months time, she would end up dating Choi Seung-Hyun. She found it crazy.
"What's your favorite color?" Choi Seung-Hyun suddenly asked.
Jang Mi leaned her back into him as he hugged her as close as possible. "My favorite color would probably be, the sun set. Those bright colors of purple, orange, pink and yellow, all combined just by the sun setting." Jang Mi smiled. "What's your favorite color?"
"I think I have a new favorite color." He chuckled as Jang Mi joined him.
Jang Mi felt it rumble through her as he did so. "What's your favorite food?"
"Hmm, anything with red bean paste is the best." He signed. "What's yours?"
(Red bean paste sounds gross but it's actually really sweet. I love it. The texture is what makes it taste weird to most westerners in Korea but it's really good.)
"I like to eat everything." Jang Mi sighed. "You need to eat to live."
"I noticed." Choi Seung-Hyun chuckled as Jang Mi lightly elbowed his stomache. "Who's your best friend from school?" Choi Seung-Hyun asked after containing himself.
Jang Mi sighed. "I didn't have any. I was home schooled my whole life."
"Your whole life? That sounds painfully boring."
Jang Mi smiled. "It was. Until I moved to Korea." Jang Mi sighed contentedly. "Even though I was home schooled in Korea as well, I still had fun because of my brother. I love it here. The people are so amazing."
"In Seoul?" Choi Seung-Hyun raised an eyebrow.
"I've met a handful of bad ones. The ones who were seriously rude to Korean-Americans like me. However, I can't base all of Seoul on people like that. I met a lot of nice people here as well."
Choi Seung-Hyun was amazed by her positive attitude. He knew the outcome of someone moving into Seoul. Especially someone like Jang Mi who used to live in America. If he just moved to Seoul, and he met a handful of rude people, he would have claimed Seoul to be a place where rude people gather and annoy all the nice people in the world. She didn't see it like that. She saw the positive over negative. Choi Seung-Hyun couldn't help himself but admire Jang Mi and her way of thinking.
Choi Seung-Hyun remembered what Jang Mi said about her dad, so he had to ask. "What happened to your dad?" Choi Seung-Hyun asked. "If you don't mind me asking." He quickly added.
Jang Mi was silent for awhile before she finally spoke. "He used to be a cop." She started. "He was out potrolling the streets like he usually dif. There was a guy who these detectives were after for a couple of years already. He was just a common thief. However, my dad stumbled across him that night trying to break into a clothing store. The guy panicked and he stabbed my dad. He then ran away. Left my dad to bleed to death on the side of the street."
Choi Seung-Hyun sat there shocked by her story. It was almost like a story out of a drama. Choi Seung-Hyun lifted her up -with all his strength and might- and made her straddle him. He saw her watered eyes as they looked back at him. She smiled at him nonetheless. The smile itself took his breath away. This person in front of him smiled while her heart broke. He couldn't help it as it broke his heart seeing her like this.
"What can I do to help you feel better?" Choi Seung-Hyun asked as he placed her fallen hair behind her ears.
Jang Mi smiled brightly at him with tears welling up in her eyes. "Just hug me and every time your heart aches, I'll hug you."
Choi Seung-Hyun didn't need to be asked to hug her. He embraced her in his arms and took in everything of her. He wanted to take away her heartache but she was easily ridding him of any. Jang Mi was someone who held his heart and she didn't know it. The thing that Choi Seung-Hyun worried the most about was the fact that he let her have it.
"I'll hug you every time your heart aches." He whispered with a smile.
