Chapter 10 - Idols & Commoners

It's been a few days since Su-Bin had last spoken with Seungri. During those few days, she had continued on working with her students. They haven't improved attitude wise but their dancing was getting better. They still looked bad but it wasn't how it was when they first started. It has occurred to Su-Bin that the kids weren't taught the basics about dancing. They weren't taught from the beginning. Which was why they were so bad.

"Chae-Won have you forgotten how to walk?" Su-Bin asks teaching them how to do a simple walk dance to the beat. "Yeah, you're so busy looking down at those phones that you forgot how to walk."

She had already warned them that she wasn't going to take the pranking lightly. From then on, if they pulled another prank, they were going to be the ones to clean it. They thought she was joking. As a lowly dance teacher, they didn't believe she had much authority however even their parents were afraid of her.

"How dare you make my Ji-Ryoon do dances for this long! He's just a child and he's always tired!" His mom sneered.

She had been speaking for three minutes about how her son didn't deserve such treatment. However, Su-Bin ignored the lady and stayed on her phone. She was busy destroying the houses of pigs who dared to steal her eggs.

"Are you even listening?!" She snapped.

"Aish! I missed!" Su-Bin says annoyed while looking at her phone before rubbing her ear. "Some of us want to hear when we get to your age." She says not caring at all. "Listen, I don't care if your son is here or not. My job is to make sure they can dance well to enter a company as trainees. Your son is attending an academy. An. A-ca-de-my. Which means he's the lowest of the low. If he doesn't put in the work that needs to be imputed to become an idol, he has no reason to be here and I have no reason to teach him. You as a parent can withdraw. I don't care."

And Su-Bin said that to each parent who complained. She wasn't trying to sugar coat things for them but it somehow spoke to those kids. They spoke with their parents and now Su-Bin was able to keep them there for as long as she liked. Which was why they were improving. She gave them the option to choose the next song to be taught a choreography for it if they could nail and complete the choreography for Seventeen's Pretty U.

After teaching the basics, she went back in taught them the choreography once again. Unlike before, they didn't take too long to follow her moves. However, nailing the moves for the dance was a different story. It took almost three hours for them to learn it and memorize it before they could do it alone.

"Finally!" She says smiling. "You guy actually looked like idols for a second. Just for a second though. Can you imagine, that was only the first verse." Su-Bin checked her watch for the time and sighed. "11:30 guys. You all worked hard. I expect nothing less tomorrow." Everyone began cleaning, then packed their bags as they began to leave. However Su-Bin's voice stopped them. "Have you guys chosen a song yet?"

Their eyes lit up as they all nodded. They surrounded her with bright smiles.

"I thought we were gonna tell you when we nail the whole dance?" Mari asks shocked at the sudden leanency of Su-Bin.

Su-Bin nodded. "I had no faith that you guys could dance to it, but now I do. Are you gonna tell me or not?" She asks, making Jae Wan step forward and show her the music video from his phone. She watched the music video and smiled. "An American artist? Are you guys even old enough to watch this music video? They're just uploading anything in America, huh?"

Sera rolled her eyes. "Rihanna is a Queen. She is an influential singer and raps as well. Her music is amazing and her charisma is amazing too. If she wants to strip, I would pay to watch."

"It is a bit much compared to Korea, but the song itself is upbeat and gives charismatic charm." Ji-Ryoon added.

Mari nodded agreeing. "Plus, hip hop gets a lot of recognition so if you're able to teach us well, maybe we'll be able to get into a company with recognition."

"Don't get ahead of yourselves. You need to put in the work and effort to get what you want." Su-Bin says before going into deep thought then nodded. "Alright. I'm not gonna make it easy for you guys okay? This is so you guys can get into a company."

They all smiled and nodded before bowing and leaving. Su-Bin waved and went into the middle of the studio and sat there. She took out her phone and listened to Rihanna's Pour It Up twice before finally nodding. She liked it. She could work with it.

Su-Bin started by conducting the first verse. She was making sure to record herself so that she didn't forget the moves. She continued changing it up a bit and then finally felt content with what she got so far in the first verse. Now she had to figure out how she was going to transition the kids all together and how it would look but she would have to do that when she starts teaching them the dance.

Su-Bin was going to start on the chorus when the door to the dance studio opened. Seungri popped his head in and looked around before his eyes landed on Su-Bin. When he saw her, he smiled and entered. The Last few times she saw him he wore a suit. This time he was duped up more casually. He wore a simple white t-shirt, skinny jeans and a hat. A mouth mask hung off on of his ears as he walked towards her. He entered carry a plastic bag which Su-Bin could smell from where she stood. Fried chicken. She bowed slightly as she saw him and turned off the music.

"Mr. Han Man Suk told you were still working." Seungri says as he entered.

Su-Bin was out of breath but she nodded. "Yeah. The kids had just left."

"Are you hungry?" Seungri asks. "I bought some food."

Su-Bin smiled at the mention of food. "Yeah, I guess I could use a break."

Su-Bin helped him set up the food he brought in the middle of the dance studio. She used a blanket to cover it since the kids didn't wipe the floors of the room before they left. They began unloading the foods from the bags and sat across from each other. Seungri was ready to dive in but stopped when he saw Su-Bin praying over her food. He was utterly surprised.

"Amen." She says, ready to dig in. Feeling Seungri's eyes on her she looked up. "What?" She asks.

"Nothing, I just wouldn't have thought of you as the type to believe in god." Seungri says.

Su-Bin shook her head. "Trust me, if I have survived my whole childhood and came out with a clear mind, there has to be a god protecting me. He even sent me Lina. Regardless of my beliefs, it's still hard to convert completely. Obviously I have a lot of bad habits." Su-Bin says rubbing together the chopsticks that were still together before breaking them apart.

"That's cool I guess. I think your bad habits make you unique." Seungri replied honestly, not knowing that his words had a small impact on her.

"Really? People told me it made me a bitch, or some type of whore." She says honestly, no filter needed. "My type wouldn't be seen even a meter near those birds who flock with you."

Seungri waved her off as he began eating. "Eh," He says shrugging while chewing loudly, "I was always wary of those who were kind to me. It's refreshing to have someone who says it like it is."

"Are you just saying that in front of me and then behind my back you're gonna say what a disgrace it is to do dinner with such a lowly human like myself?" Su-Bin says lightly, joining in on the food.

Seungri looked at her oddly. Not understanding what she was talking about. "How high of a pedestal did you place us idols on?" He asks placing his chopsticks down and looking her firmly in the eyes. "It's true that we do get a lot of praises and we have a huge fan base that basically worships the ground we walk on but it was not because we are lethargic. We put our blood, sweat and tears into this career of ours and the fans are the outcome of our hard work. Just like common workers, we starved trying to stride towards success. The only difference is, is idols don't get taken seriously. We put in our two cents anywhere, we're told to shut up and sing. Shut up and dance. Our company, because they know that us idols ride on the money they give us to become who we are today, they get the free card to push us and pull us as they please. Anything that makes us idols happy such as alcohol, hanging out with women, going to night clubs or even smoking are frowned upon because it's not something the public wants us doing and because our career is based off from the public, we spend our entire life walking on eggshells." He sighed after calmly explaining this. "Of course this is what comes with my career choice and I honestly wouldn't change it for the world, but I didn't get here by sitting idly waiting for it to happen." He smiles and stares at her. "Which is why I find you unique. Despite having people put their expectations on you, you tell them to screw themselves and you do it the way you want it to be done." He poured himself a cup of coke and lifted it towards her. "You're admirable."

Su-Bin stared at Seungri with a blank expression. He might think that she was able to escape such expectations, but after hearing his thoughts, she figured that they weren't so different after all. She decided not to reply and eat, content with his explanation and his praises. She guess some idols do have flaws hidden under beautiful hair and nice clothes.
