Chapter 79 - Fixer Upper

"I heard you fired your assistant and secretary." Her father says crossing his arms.

Nabi eyed him sitting in the living area of her office. Sitting on her sofa in comfort. He didn't even mind that he was getting himself comfortable in her office. She didn't like seeing him so she couldn't sit down comfortably in front of him. Nabi paced the floors, wondering if security would kick him out or not. She was confused over the status. Because he's chairman, she wasn't sure they would kick him out. But he was in her company and office, so they should. But then again, he's the chairman of her company's brother. She was very confused.

"Why aren't you answering me?" He asked annoyed.

Nabi rolled her eyes, something she found herself doing quite often in front of her dad. "I was trying to ignore your annoying unwelcoming presence in my office." She says truthfully.

"I understand you don't like me but we do have to get along." He says smugly.

"Like I said, I'd rather die." Nabi says. "What do you want?"

"You fired your assistant and your secretary. Why?" He asked.

"Their faces annoyed me. They look like my elementary classmates." She lied.

"You need a real reason to fire your employees." He cleared his throat. "How do you think I feel when they come up to me and complain about losing their jobs?"

Nabi folded her arms across her chest and inhaled deeply to shut down his argument. "My employees who get fired shouldn't concern themselves with the chairman of our brother company." She says with annoyance dripping from her words. "Now if you're done, I'd actually like to get some work done." Nabi walked over to her desk and held down the red button on her phone. "Assistant Jung, please come and escort Chairman Nam out."

With that, Nabi took a seat in her office chair not caring if her father got up or not. She began working on fixing the locations for the stores with the lowest sells. She wanted to move them into areas to help better the sells. She also needed a new designer because the one they currently had was absolute crap and didn't do the company justice. She had been looking into some of the designs of the workers who always got their work shut down from the head designer. Nabi was interested in one person for the design but she needed to get rid of the current head designer.

Nabi stood up and left her office. Her secretary and assistant followed her without saying a word. Nabi made her way over to the elevators and waited for the metal doors to open up. As she and the other two got in, the ride to the floor of designers took awhile. However, Nabi could hear a Korean drama being played from someone's ear phones. Nabi turned around in her place but didn't see any ear phones hanging from Lina or Sang Hyuk's ears. Turning back around after not seeing anything suspicious, she made an exit as the doors finally opened onto the busy factory floor of designers.

Large desks with a basket of fabrics placed to the side of each designer's desks. Designers and interns ran around the floor holding large boxes in their hands. The head designer's desk stood at the far end of the floor, the head designer was sipping tea out of a large white mug. The moment he noticed Nabi entering, he stood up and began holding fabric up to the light. This made Nabi angry as she approached him. Once Nabi stood in front of the head designer's desk, he dropped the fabric and bowed to Nabi. She stood there unimpressed by his fake attitude to work.

"I came looking for Goo Dae Hyun." Nabi says.

"The intern?" The head designer asked.

"No, the new head designer." Nabi says.

"What?" The head designer asked in shock. "You're trying to replace me?" He scoffed.

"I need a designer who can take this job seriously. You approved too much of the crap you call designs and it was placed into stores. Sales dropped at least thirty percent because of the stuff you let hit the shelves. Now I come down here, watching interns run around like crazy while you're on your ass drinking out of a cup of tea like you have no worries. I'm here to do business and this crappy designs that you signed off on is why this business is in debt. I wont be having this company taken advantage by some wanna be designer who can't even handle a position like head designer." Nabi snapped. She inhaled and exhaled slowly before asking, "Now, where is this Goo Dae Hyun?" She asks.

All the heads in the room turned simultaneously to one side where there stood a man in a plain white t-shirt and long skinny jeans. He had long black silky hair that stopped below his shoulders. His face held a very confused expression as everyone stared at him. To the eye, he didn't look like much. However, Nabi looked over his work and the only question she had was, why he wasn't head designer anytime soon. He had been an intern in the company for almost a full year and his work that she has seen amazed her. So now that she wanted him as head designer, he'd have access to all authority over designs and his talent will be able to show brightly through the sells.

"Dae Hyun-ssi," Nabi greeted with a kind smile, "Would you like to take up the head designer position? It's open and available for you."

Goo Dae Hyun bowed deeply but before he could say anything the other workers who stood looking at him spoke up. "Do it."

"Yeah. Take it!"

"Please don't be your usual coward self. That's why you're still an intern. Take the job."

"Just say yes."

"So what's it going to be?" Nabi asks. "It looks like I'm not the only one who wants you as head designer." She smiled brightly.

After hesitating, he nodded. "Yes. I'll take over the position." With that everyone cheered and ran up to him hugging him while the old head designer pouted in annoyance.

"I expect only the best designs to be put through. I have to approve of each of them with each material. I want to make sure that you're not just abusing your position like the former head designer. I want you to be designing and creating clothes for women. I will not go easy on you just because you're designs are good. This is a serious position and if you can't take the position seriously, I can find another talented designer." Nabi smiled. "I'd hate to have to do that."

"I promise only the best." He bowed deeply. "Thank you so much!"

Nabi dug through her clutch she carried around with her and handed him a black card. "Take it. You can celebrate tonight because tomorrow, you're going to be really busy upping the sales." She smiled. "Drinks are on me."

After he took the card and cheered along with other designers, Nabi turned around and made her way back to the elevators. Sang Hyuk and Lina just followed her silently. Lina had smile on her face. She was surprised to see such a cool side to Nabi. When she had met her the second time, Lina didn't think she was able to speak in authority the way she did. Made her realize just how strong of a women Nabi is and just how large her heart was. From what Sang Hyuk explained to her, this company was her mother's company. Now Nabi is fixing the mess her father created and she was showing quite the backbone. To Lina, it's very admirable.

"Once the time comes for work to end, you two may leave. I'll stay in late to work out these things." Nabi says as she entered her office.

Nabi closed her door and walked over to her desk. She began working on the computer and writing things down. She felt like she was starting the company from scratch so she had a lot of work to do. While her mind and hands were busy, Nabi barely noticed how time had flown. She was so invested into her work, she hadn't noticed how dark the sky had soon gotten. Yet, she continued to work. Taking care of financial matters and making sure everything was in order when the next meeting with shareholders happen. Because when the next time she gets in front of the shareholders, she needs to be prepared to confront them on their lack of support for this company. None of them knew she carried the twenty one percent that was missing, and nobody knew of how much power she actually held. It was too soon to reveal it. Once she finds out who is loyal to her dad and who is not, she will soon have to buy out shareholders. She'll use her twenty one percent to buy them out. Currently, none of the shareholders knew about how much power Nabi had over them. However, she needed to prove them wrong. She needed to prove them all wrong.

Sang Hyuk waited for as long as he could. He left awhile ago to report to his lead detectives of the status but he came back to make sure Nabi had left. He was starting to think she wasn't all what she seemed. From the background check he had to run, Nabi was nowhere in her father's past. Not even on records. He was confused why. She only showed up under her mother's daughter and her grandparent's granddaughter but not as Chairman Nam's daughter. He found it strange. At first he thought she was just another chaebol, trying to impress her father, but it was clear on Nabi's face just how much she disliked him when he would enter into her office without a notice. Sang Hyuk was starting to see Nabi's true intentions with the company and what she was saying about only wanting her mother's company back seems to be true. The value of her mother's company is nowhere near as valuable as her father's company. If Nabi was after money, she would also go after her father's company.

San Hyuk entered Nabi's office after seeing a light in her office was still on. He knocked lightly before welcoming himself into the room. He didn't see anyone sitting behind her desk. However, as he went deeper into her office, he saw Nabi sitting on the sofa. Her head was tilted back and her eyes were closed. In her lap laid a bunch of papers and books while the coffee table in front of her had a lap top, a tablet and even more papers and folders. Even four empty foam cups that obviously use to hold coffee inside it. Sang Hyuk sighed as he stared at her sleeping figure. From the photos that he had searched up while looking at the background of Chairman Nam's family, Nabi looked a little chubbier, mostly in her cheek area. In the current state she was in, Sang Hyuk noticed Nabi's extreme weight loss. She was already thin to begin with but her cheeks had gone down making her look mean rather than cute. Now that he had been working with her, he doesn't remember ever seeing her eat. He wondered if it had anything to do with the rapper.

Sighing, Sang Hyuk leaned down and gently shook Nabi's shoulders. It was a big mistake. Since she was sleeping somewhere that was not her home, Nabi's mind was still awake even though she was sleeping. The moment she felt something shake her awake, Nabi's had instinctively swung, hitting Sang Hyuk in the nose. She instantly stood up in shock at seeing Sang Hyuk bent over while he covered his nose. From under his nose dripped blood causing Nabi to panic.

"Oh gosh I'm so sorry." She says rushing to her desk where a box of tissue sat. "Here." She said removing his hand away from his face to cover his nose.

"Why does a women hit people while she sleeps?" Sang Hyuk asks.

Nabi sighed grabbing his hands and placing it by his nose for him to hold the tissue. "My dad runs along with gangs. I can feel my body sleeping somewhere I shouldn't. I feel alert all the time."

"Even in your home?" He asked muffled by his hand.

Nabi nodded while she began packing her work. "There is a car parked outside of my house. This car follows me on a daily basis. When I go home to sleep, the car is there. When I wake up, the car is there. It's why I'm very worried when I sleep."

"You're stressed about this aren't you?" Sang Hyuk asks as he helped passing papers to her.

Sighing while putting a strand of hair behind her ear, she smiled slightly. "You think I'm worried about myself?" She questioned. "Well I'm not. I'm worried about my sister who lives with me. I'm glad this car follows me everywhere I go. It means they're not following my younger sister. It means I know she's safe. I'm not alert when I sleep because I'm scared of them, I'm alert when I sleep because I fear they'll use that perfect time to bring harm to my sister. I don't care if I'm hurt, so long as nobody touches my sister." She explained.

"That sounds horrific." He says. "I don't know much about you but, I know you're not a bad person."

Nabi smiled. "Thank you. I know you're grouchy all the time but I also know you're not a bad person."

"I'll take you home. You're eyes are about to roll out of your skull at this point." He says taking a hold of Nabi's belonging as she followed him.

"Thank you."
