Chapter 78 - Hired

Nabi had a cup of coffee in her hand as she made an exit from her house. Just as she was making her way down the steps, Jung Lina entered through her front gates. Unlike the other times Nabi had seen her, her hair was now straight and went down past her mid back. She smiled kindly as she gave a light bow to Nabi. Nabi gave her an odd look, wondering if she was here to deliver milk or give an answer to what Nabi briefly spoke with her about.

"Lina-ssi, are you here to deliver milk?" Nabi asked as she went down the stairs.

Jung Lina shook her head. "No," she says using a hand to rub her opposite shoulder out of nervousness, "I came here about the job offer."

Nabi smiled. "So are you going to do it?" She asks.

Jung Lina nodded her head. "I have no choice."

"Why'd you make it up so suddenly?" Nabi asked curiously.

Jung Lina sighed. "You see, my dad gotten really hurt this one time and ended up in the hospital. My dad was a construction worker while my mom cooks in a small fast food joint. My father's company refused to cover any medical expenses. They said he wasn't hurt on the job so we saw no way of us getting any help from them, financially of course. And since my mom only ran a small fast food joint, she too had no health insurance. Now, my siblings and I have-"

Nabi cut her off. "You don't have to explain that to me."

"No. It's not like it's a secret or something." Jung Lina says truthfully. "My father was hurt badly. I work three part time jobs just to pay off the hospital bill."

Nabi smiled. "Alright." She says placing an arm on her hip. "I hope you're not busy today." Nabi smiled as Jung Lina shook her head. "Good. Can you start work today?"

"Yeah." She says. "Probably after I get some work clothes on."

Nabi smiled. "Just dress professionally. The employees will know the difference."

Not knowing by what Nabi meant, she just followed Nabi out into the streets where Min Sang Hyuk stood, leaning coolly against the hood of Nabi's company car. He wore a suit professionally and looked like he was modeling for a fashion magazine. He even looked amazing while sipping on an iced coffee through a red and white striped straw.

"Who is she?" He asked with an unsettling tone.

"This is my assistant." Nabi says.

Looking at Nabi confused, he raised a brow. "I thought I was your assistant."

"You're my secretary. You're supposed to open the car door when you come to pick me up." Nabi says pointing at the back door of the the car.

"You're more than capable of opening the car door yourself. You know with your own two working arms." He says walking around the front of the car to get to the driver's seat. "Hurry. We'll be late." He shouted out before shutting the door.

Sighing with annoyance, Nabi turned to Jung Lina and smiled apologetically. "Don't mind him. He probably has something up his butt." Nabi shrugged while Jung Lina smiled understandably. "Do you need a ride home?" Nabi asked.

Jung Lina shook her head. "No! Go ahead and I'll meet you at your work place."

Nabi nodded and began digging through her wallet before handing out a business card. "Call this number when you arrive to the building. They'll escort you to my office."

Jung Lina nodded and bowed a thank you. She waited for Nabi to climb into her car before bowing again as the car sped off. Nabi kept silent as she looked at the passing windows. Without fail, her mind wandered off into unmarked territories that consisted the memories of her and Kwon Jiyong. She wondered what was going to happen when she receives information on his activities as she was away from him. She felt like it was wrong, but couldn't help herself. Nothing made sense to her and she had no idea what she was doing.

"We're here." Min Sang Hyuk says.

Nabi snapped back to reality and looked around. "The parking garage? You're supposed to drop me up at the front and then come park the car."

"Why would I do that when I can do it this way?" He says getting out of the car. "It's killing two birds with one stone."

Sighing she got out and followed him to the elevators. Nabi got in as soon as the elevators opened and pressed the lobby of the building. The two stood in silence as the elevators lifted them up to the lobby. They exited where employees bowed randomly since she didn't enter through the front like she normally did. Her Secretary followed her as she made her way to the next set of elevators, to take her up to her office.

As soon as she arrived on her destined floor, she walked out of the elevators, passing by employees who bowed the moment they saw her. Nabi walked into the area where her secretary and assistant had their own desks outside the front of her office door, she noticed the familiar figure standing out in front of her office.

Joo Won stood with an unimpressed expression, most likely from her new appearance. "Why didn't you tell me?" Joo Won asked with an angry frown and furrowed eyebrows.

Nabi sighed. "Let's talk about it in my office."

Nabi led the way through the doors and made her way to her living room set in the middle of her office. She sat down on a sofa and pointed to the sofa across from her for Joo Won to sit at. Joo Won let his body flop against the sofa as his eyes roamed Nabi's surprisingly large office. He was sure that her office was much bigger than his own.

"President Park," Nabi looked up to see Min Sang Hyuk enter, "I found all the bugs in your office, so you don't need to worry."

Nabi felt relieved to hear that. "Thank you." She smiled at him kindly because she didn't ask him to do that.

"Okay, now explain to me what happend." Joo Won demanded.

Nabi sighed. "My dad basically threatened Jiyong's life if I didn't come and work for him. But I'm not here because of my dad, I'm here to get my mother's company back. The second part of my mother's will was of her asking to seperate her company from my father's dirty company." She explained.

"What do you mean dirty?" Joo Won asks.

"My dad has been slushing money and using gangs to make his pockets bigger. His authority here is only 4% so he can't do much to ruin this company with that illegal crap. My secretary is an undercover detective. We need to find proof that my father has been breaking laws so that he can get arrested." Nabi says.

"He's a cop?" Joo Won says in shock.

Nabi snapped her finger in front of Joo Won's face. "That is not the point!" She scolded. "I need to get my hands on something to get my dad thrown away."

"So what about Kwon Jiyong?" He asked.

This question caused Nabi to sigh. "I had to break up with him. My dad was threatening him. The only way to keep him safe was for me to stay away from him."

"Dang, that's harsh." He sighed.

Nabi nodded. "So what about you with your whole marriage."

"Well, that's why I came here. I got married yesterday and you weren't there." Joo Won says with annoyance. "Does it make sense that my bestfriend wasn't at my wedding?"

Nabi felt her heart ache at just hearing how hurt his voice was. "I'm so sorry." She says with tears brimming her eyes.

"I waited for you to come. I did. But you never came." He sighed. "I understand it might not seem like a real wedding because it was arranged and that your parents were brought together the same way but, I still wanted you to be there."

"I'm sorry." Nabi repeated. "I would love to meet her even though I don't see her as a real bride. I'll meet her for you."

"You don't mind?" Joo Won asked.

Nabi shook her head. "Of course I don't mind." Nabi then spoke back up. "I hope you didn't tell my uncle anything."

"Your uncle has been calling me about you, but I had no idea about your whereabouts until your dad mentioned something about you working for him to my father." Joo Won explained. "Which is also how I found you. A lot of businessmen have claimed their loyalty to your father which is probably why you're off the radar and which is probably why your uncle is having a hard time trying to find you."

"I didn't know he was looking for me." Nabi says with a sigh.

"I only know because he's asked my father about you a couple of times already." Joo Won ran a hand through his hair. "I think you should tell him."

"Not until my father is in jail. Then I would feel safe telling my uncle. Other than that, I need to do this on my own." Nabi sighed. "Please don't tell him."

Joo Won sighed frustratingly. "Fine. I wont." He inhaled deeply. "Just promise me you will meet my wife as soon as you get the chance."

Nabi nodded. "Of course."

"Well, I have to get going. I have a meeting in an hour." Joo Won says as he stood up.

Nabi nodded, following him to her office door. "Alright."

As Joo Won walked out he turned around, "Nabi,"

"Huh?" Nabi says looking at him.

"It's good to finally see you after so long." Joo Won smiled.

Nabi felt her heart ache even deeper at the pain she caused her best friend. "It's nice to see you too oppa." She smiled with tears brimming her eyes. "Just call me whenever."

Nabi waved to Joo Won before heading into her office. She began working on the different sales and location of her mom's stores that were stationed all over Korea, a few in Japan, a couple in LA and one in Hawaii. She knew some of the sales for some of the stores were low so she had to make a decision on whether she should move the stores to a different location or not. She needed to work, to get her mind off of things.

"Nabi-ssi." Nabi looked up from her desk and spotted Jung Lina entering in now formal attire.

"Oh you're here." Nabi says pointing to the living area of her office. "Please take a seat." Nabi stood up and made her way to sit across from Jung Lina.

"You didn't tell me you were the President." Jung Lina says surprised.

Nabi chuckled. "Being the President is nothing. I don't get to control anything."

"I'm sure you have a say in a lot though." She smiled. "I can't really afford anything that this brand sells."

Nabi sighed. "Yeah. I have to fix that."

"No! You shouldn't do it because I was complaining about it." Jung Lina says shaking her head.

Nabi chuckled. "Don't worry. My grandmother created this company. She wanted clothes for women to be fashionable yet affordable." She smiled. "I have been trying to fix that with the higher ups but they're refusing because the profit will lower."

Sighing out of relief, Jung Lina nodded. "That's quite amazing of your grandmother."

"Thank you." Nabi intertwined her hands and placed her hands over her lap. "Before you begin your work as an assistant, I need to know a few things about you."

Jung Lina nodded understandably. "Well for starters, I have no experience with assisting let alone anything to do with fashion. My whole name is Jung Catalina. But people just call me Lina because I have too much syllables in my name." She smiled.

"So you're not full Korean?" Nabi asked. "Sorry Lina-ssi, I'm just curious."

She shook her head. "Don't worry and you can just call me Lina." Nabi smiled and nodded. "Well, my dad is Korean but my mom is Hispanic."

Interested in her story Nabi asked, "How did your parents meet?"

"My dad went to the United States with his company. He was only twenty at the time he met my mom but they instantly fell in love." Lina explained.

"But how could they understand each other if the didn't speak the same language?" Nabi asked.

"My dad spoke Spanish very well. He took up the course through out his four years in high school and learned the language fluently which was why he was an important aspect of the company during the time. He was the only one who spoke and understand their native tongue. When he met my mom, my mom was surprised he could speak Spanish so well since she wasn't really good at speaking English." Lina smiled warmly. "My dad was there for two months and boom my eldest brother was born."

Nabi chuckled. "That's amazing. Your parents must of been so in love."

"They still are." Lina smiles. "My dad doesn't show it much, because he's Korean, but he loves my mom."

Nabi nodded in agreement. "Anything else I should know about you?" She asks.

Hesitantly, Lina nodded. "I'm addicted to Kdramas."

Nabi raised a brow. "Kdramas?"

"Yes." Lina nodded. "It's really bad."

"How addicted?" Nabi asked.

Lina bit her lip as she began thinking. "Probably really bad. I do the milk delivering just to support my addiction. Besides the milk delivering, I have three different part time jobs. I don't count milk delivery as a job." She says.

Nabi tilted her head and smiled. "It can't be that bad." She says in disbelief.

"I hope I'm not interrupting anything." Nabi looked over to the door of her office and saw Min Sang Hyuk standing in the door the way. "Your father is here." He says.
