Chapter 74 - Information Overload
"The second part of the will is ready." Lawyer Ahn says laughing through the phone.
"What?" Nabi asked as she pulled the phone away from her to check the screen and saw an unfamiliar number. "Lawyer Ahn?"
"Yes." Lawyer Ahn sighed.
"But how did you know?" She asked looking around. "How did you know I was crying?"
"You're mom's request. She told me to hire interns to follow you so that I would know when your father would try to approach you. It was brilliant. Interns! I don't have to pay them." She says sighing in content.
"You're making no sense!" Nabi complained. "What are you talking about?"
"At the end of the street, there is a black van. There should be two guys and three girls inside. Get in the van and they'll bring you to me." Lawyer Ahn says.
Nabi shook her head confused. "You're not making any sense. Lawyer Ahn, you had people following me?"
"They're interns. They do what I tell them to do. Anyways, hurry on down. I don't like waiting." With that Lawyer Ahn hung up.
Nabi placed the phone back into her pockets. She looked around the streets and spotted a black van. Slowly, she made her way to the van not sure if Lawyer Ahn was a sane person or not. She reached the black van, and tried her best to see through the tinted glass. However, the moment she leaned close, the door slid open to reveal exactly what Lawyer Ahn said. Two guys and three girls. However, she didn't expect the rubbish that scattered the floor, the large tech equipment or the fact that they were all young looking.
"You guys are the interns that Lawyer Ahn spoke with me about?" Nabi asked shyly as they all nodded.
Before looking up and down the streets, she got into the van, sitting herself next to a guy with glasses. He smiled at her while the girl in the driver's seat started the van up and began driving off to, Nabi's guess, Lawyer Ahn's lawfirm. The van had an odd smell, even the look of the interns were odd to Nabi.
Nabi cleared her throat and asked, "How long have you guys been following me?"
The one who drove spoke up. "Since your mom's funeral."
"What were you guys reporting back to Lawyer Ahn?" She asked.
The guy who sat next to her spoke up. "Everything. Where you went. Who you were with. How long you stayed in one place."
"Well, isn't this kind of illegal?" Nabi asked with a noticeable sigh.
"Eh~" The guy next to her says with a light shrug.
Sighing with frustration, Nabi stopped talking. She began concentrating her thoughts on the will. She wondered why her mom decided to have two wills and make it complicated like this. It made her wonder what the second will was waiting for. If it had a set time for Nabi or was there something that triggered it. She also wondered why did Lawyer Ahn make five people follow her without her knowledge. She was so confused.
..............
"Nabi!" Lawyer Ahn says with a smile.
Nabi bowed politely. "Hello." She says.
"Secretary Oh, cancel my next meeting." She says.
"But Ma'am, that's with the Golden Food Industry. You mustn't cancel." She says.
Sighing and rubbing her temple she nodded. "Fine. Just move it down an hour or two. Make it two."
After going in, Nabi sat in the same chair she sat in when she came for the reading of the first will. Lawyer Ahn excitedly sat across from her. Nabi waited for her to give her the second will but Lawyer Ahn just sat across from her with a knowing smile. She didn't even say anything since sitting down. So Nabi looked around awkwardly.
After a full minute of silence, Nabi looked at Lawyer Ahn. "Where's the second will?" She asked.
"Ah!" She smiled. "Good job at staying sharp. I totally forgot."
Sighing at her odd behavior she waited until Lawyer Ahn handed her a remote. "What is this?" She asked.
Lawyer Ahn scoffed playfully. "Isn't it obvious? It's your mom's will."
"A remote?" Nabi asked.
"No silly. You press play." She says pointing at the television.
"Couldn't you have done that?" Nabi says to herself quietly.
Nabi wasn't sure if Lawyer Ahn was fit to be a lawyer but that wasn't any of her business. So she watched as the black screen lit up and her mom appeared on the screen. It caused Nabi's heart to stop the moment she saw her. She missed her mom so much. However, she smiled at being able to see her face again and being able to hear her voice.
"Is it recording?" Her mom asked. "Oh okay. Nabi-ah, it's me, your mom." Nabi watched as she smiled at her. "I'm sorry I have to do things this way. This video, this second part of my will, is something that I had to do. I couldn't cowardly explain this to you through paper. Because I'm lacking so much, I couldn't fill in the empty spot you needed from a father. You were too young to understand the life style we were in back when I was with your real father. It wasn't safe for you or me. I had to get away from him. I had to get you away from him." She sighed loudly. "Your father is a dangerous man. He's corrupted and blinded by the power he has. I knew after I passed away, he would find you. He would try and control you. Although I would want you to stay away from him because he's dangerous, I need you to do something for me. Something for my parents, your grandparents." Nabi saw tears in her mother's eyes. "I need you to go and take the company back. Just my company. Become the Chairwoman and detach the company away from your father. You'll hold the most shares but your father must not know that you have all my shares. You have 21% of shares which is more than the other eight under the company. This is why your father was searching for us. About five or so years after I divorced him, with him taking my company, he found out he couldn't do anything to the company because he only holds 4% in shares. He's after the 21% that I have given you. You must keep Nara away from him. Also," She paused heavily. "You must stay away from Kwon Jiyong for the time being. He will get hurt. Your father will hurt him. Don't report to the police for him either. They won't be able to protect him." She sighed. "I'm sorry to do this to you. This is my last request. But I love you Nabi. This company is the only thing to our family's name. Take it away from your father. Lawyer Ahn will help you in any legal action needed to take. I love you Nabi. Tell Nara I love her too."
Sighing in frustration, Nabi ran a hand through her hair. Her mom wanted her to break up with Kwon Jiyong as well. You must stay away from Kwon Jiyong for the time being. He will get hurt. Your father will hurt him. Her mother's voice kept repeating in her head. She was so frustrated. She didn't know what to do. She felt like she was slowly dying.
Nabi's phone rang, she picked it up with the habit of not checking to see who it was. "Hello?" She answered like a zombie.
"Nabi-ah, where-"
Upon hearing his voice, Nabi cut him off. "Oppa, I'm sorry but I'm actually really busy right now. I'll talk to you later."
"Are you alright?" Nabi felt a tear slip down her cheek at hearing him ask her that in such a caring way.
Nabi cleared her throat before answering. "Oppa, I'll call you later." With that she hung up.
Nabi sat back down, crying silently. Lawyer Ahn sighed and stood up. She went to Nabi's side and put an arm around her, running her hand up and down Nabi's arm in comfort.
"Ugh." Nabi groaned standing up while running a hand up and down her face in frustration. "How bad is he that I have to break up with Jiyong? That there is no other way of protecting him? That I can't even go to the police?" She asked frustratingly.
Lawyer Ahn sighed and shook her head. "You have no idea how wicked he is."
"Yeah. I'm starting to think the worst of him." She sighed. "I thought he was just a douche bag of a father."
Nodding, Lawyer Ahn stood up. "Your father is corrupted. He's been this way since before you were born. Your mom, at first, hadn't known about his deals he makes with gang leaders to help up, not only his sales, but also the profit he makes off the business. I can't really explain how he had gotten involved with dealing with dirty money, but all I can tell you is, this is your mom's last wish."
"I don't understand. Why do we need the company? Nara and I are fine." Nabi claimed, fighting any argument to not break up with Kwon Jiyong.
"It's your family's company. It has nothing to do with the money." Lawyer Ahn explained.
"What about Jiyong? Why do I have to break up with him? Why can't I tell the police to protect him? Or something. Anything!" Nabi begged.
"We can't do that. It's because there are detectives already investigating your father. Like we said, your father is corrupted. He has police officers on his side. We don't know who or how many. Also, once your father hears about you trying to protect him, he'll pounce." Lawyer Ahn sighed. "Look, if the police find evidence against your father's foul play, they'll give the company under him all to the public. Including your mom's company. Although the detectives are working on solving the case, he also has detectives on his side. Covering up his tracks better than anyone can. I have a friend who is a detective but he's working on another case. He told me the names of the people who are working in a special investigation team for the case against your father. Between six of them on the team, there is one who's undercover. Working for the company. If you do this, I can help you. Although your mom requested this, she told me to give you the option of not doing it if you don't want to. The choice is yours." Lawyer Ahn explains.
Nabi sighed. More confused than ever. She didn't know what she's going to do. This was her mom's last wish. But the question was, could Nabi run a company on her own? Nabi let out a frustrated sigh and looked at Lawyer Ahn who sat patiently for her response.
"What do I have to do?" Nabi asked which received a smile from Lawyer Ahn.
