Chapter 67 - Missing In Action
Nabi laid next to Kwon Jiyong, wearing his shirt, which honestly didn't cover much. It literally stopped below her butt. Even lifting her arms would cause the shirt to climb up her body. She smiled remembering the events of the night before. Kwon Jiyong made her feel loved. He made her feel wanted. Especially in a way she has never experienced before.
Nabi looked at him sleeping on his back as his bare chest flaunted all his tattoos. She was never a tattoo kind of girl but it suited him well. Her fingertips ran over his skin, tracing the ink of his tattoo. She smiled hearing him lightly snore while his chest rumbled under her finger. Before she could do anything her phone beeped, indicating she had a text message. She wondered if it was Nara.
Slowly, Nabi slipped out of Kwon Jiyong's bed as quiet as possible and went over to her jeans that were in his living area of Kwon Jiyong's room and dug through the pockets for her phone. When she fished it out of her jeans, she began reading the message. Her eyes instantly grew big. She looked at Kwon Jiyong, watching his figure continue to sleep. She sighed and began putting her clothes on.
........
Kwon Jiyong began to stir as the sun shined into his room from the open window. He opened one eye as he stared at the alarm clock at his bedside, reading that it was half past ten. Turning his body around, he was expecting to find Nabi, only to find the other half of his bed to be empty. Sitting up he began looking around his room to see if she was sitting in his living room. It was just as empty as Nabi's side of the bed. He looked back to the other half of his bed where he'd thought Nabi would be laying down to find a note laying on her pillow.
Kwon Jiyong smiled brightly looking at the note. He lifted his hands up in victory of finally getting Nabi to say those words to him. It wasn't in person but he would have to take it for now. He will later on make her say it to him. To his face.
He stood up and made his way to his bathroom to get ready for work. He didn't want to take too long since he was already going to be late for producing Lee Hi's title track for her new album. After he finished showering, he stepped into his very large closet with a towel wrapped around his waist. He began searching through his loads of clothes hanging neatly on hangers, looking for something to wear. He wanted to dress nicely for the day. He wanted Nabi to be satisfied with the way he looked. He knew she wouldn't care, but he felt like he should try.
Kwon Jiyong got dressed, placing a watch over his wrist. He walked over to his messy bed and sat on it. He pulled his phone off the charger and held down his number two on his dial pad. Instantly calling Nabi's number. He started playing with his hands nervously waiting for her to pick up. He didn't know why, but he was excited to hear her voice.
"Hello?" Nabi's voice rang on the other end.
"Nabi-ah, where-"
"Oppa, I'm sorry but I'm actually really busy right now. I'll talk to you later." Nabi's voice said.
The way she spoke on the phone made him nervous for some reason. Her voice was shaky and a little higher than it usually was. Kwon Jiyong wondered why she sounded so odd while talking to him.
"Are you alright?" Kwon Jiyong asked.
Nabi cleared her throat before answering. "Oppa, I'll call you later."
With that the phone call ended between the two. Confused by what just happened, he ran a hand through his hair as he stared at his phone. He opened the Kakao app and sent her a message. Asking if everything was okay. He could instantly tell that she read it but gotten no reply. He thought she was probably really busy, which was why she couldn't reply. Sighing, he decided it was time for him to get going for work.
..............
"Try to sing that part a little lower and we'll layer the chorus over it." Kwon Jiyong said into the mic while Lee Hi stood in the recording booth.
"Oppa, you said to sing lower than the note I'm singing." She said through the mic.
"Yeah." He nodded.
"But it'll sound too breathy if I sing below an E3. How is it going to be heard if you're already layering the chorus part over it?" She asked.
Kwon Jiyong smiled. "Just trust this oppa."
Lee Hi sighed and tried her best to make her voice heard. It was too low of a key, so her voice would come out short and breathy, only making it hard to hear. Kwon Jiyong began playing with the keys on the sound board to help make it sound more clean. When she was done, Kwon Jiyong called her out to take a break.
He rolled his chair over to the computer and began playing around with it while Lee Hi stood behind him drinking warm tea. She watched him play around with the clip she just recorded and when he was done, he looked at her expectantly as she continued to sip her tea.
"Are you ready to listen?" Kwon Jiyong asked.
Lee Hi nodded. "Yeah. I want to hear oppa's magic."
Kwon Jiyong shook his head at her sarcastic tone and he began playing the track. Just like Lee Hi predicted, she couldn't really hear her voice pitch in such a low key. Kwon Jiyong sat, satisfied from the recording and looked over at Lee Hi who gave him a shrug, not hearing anything or any difference. Kwon Jiyong smirked and handed her the large headphones and plugged it into the computer. She placed it over her ears waiting for Kwon Jiyong to play it and once it did play, she could instantly hear her breathy tone once it hit the chorus part. It sounded amazing but it could only be heard through headphones.
"It can only be heard if listened by earphones. And trust me, it makes a big difference." Kwon Jiyong says.
"That does make a big difference." Lee Hi smiles and nodded.
Before Kwon Jiyong could reply to Lee Hi, the door for the studio opened and President Yang walked in. He looked a little confused and lost. He looked at Kwon Jiyong and sighed.
"I need to talk to you." He says.
Kwon Jiyong stood up and looked at Lee Hi. "Take a break."
"Yes." She smiled and bowed to President Yang before leaving.
"What's going on?" Kwon Jiyong asked.
"When was the last time you seen Nabi?" President Yang asked expressionless.
"Last night. Why? Is she okay?" Kwon Jiyong asked with his heart beating fast. "She said she was going to call me back but it's already into the night."
"I don't know," President Yang started, "my wife called me a few hours ago. Saying Nabi came and took Nara with her. Nara was supposed to stay for a few weeks while Nabi sorts out a few things."
"Why would she take Nara then?" Kwon Jiyong asks.
"I don't know." He sighed. "But, Nabi left this voice mail on my phone. I just received it a couple of minutes ago. I felt like I needed to share it with you." He says taking out his phone and tapping the screen.
"Uncle," Nabi's voice said softly. "I'm going to go away for awhile. I took Nara with me. I don't know how long I'm going to be gone but don't come looking for us. You'll regret it if you do." There was a long pause on the other end before they heard a sniff, probably from Nabi's crying. "Tell Jiyong I'm sorry."
"What the hell does this mean?" Kwon Jiyong asked confused and shocked.
...........
