Chapter 64 - Between Relationships

Nabi slid the door shut as she stepped out into the open square courtyard. She sighed as she looked around. The houses surrounded the large courtyard in a square. The houses were facing each other with one side facing the gates that led outside of the premises. She made her way to the steps to get down into the courtyard, where a lot of businessmen were loitering around with cigarettes in their mouth or in their hands. However, their attention was on something going on across the courtyard where a bunch of yelling took place. A voice she knew to be her uncle's voice.

"How dare you show your face here! You evil bastard!" President Yang shouted at him.

Nabi lifted the skirt of her hanbok and quickly made her way over to her uncle before he did something regrettable. Just as Joo Won had told her, he was definitely here. Standing there with his head held high like he feared nothing. Unlike the last time she has seen him, wrinkles and white hair was now evident to his persona. He also gotten a little chubbier but it wasn't to an extent where it was dramatically noticeable. He wore a business attire, professionally designed with a red tie over his chest and down his stomach.

Nabi made her way to where her uncle stood and placed a hand over his chest to stop him from his rage. "Uncle, not right now. I'll take care of it."

"But-"

"I'll take care of it." She said cutting her uncle off. "Secretary Yoo." She said looking at Secretary Yoo.

"Yes ma'am." Secretary Yoo bowed before taking an angry President Yang away.

Nabi turned to the three who stood before her and bowed politely. "It's been awhile dad." She started then looked to her brother, Tae Gyeong. "Oppa, you look well." He just smiled down at her. She looked to her father's mistress and greeted her as well. "Ajumma, you still look the same."

She scoffed. "You still call me Ajumma?"

Ignoring her, Nabi turned to her father. "Why are you here?" She asked calmly.

He smirked. "Why else would I be here? Your mother finally passed!" He says with a cheerful glint.

"Dad!" Tae Geyong says in a warning tone.

"Shut up!" He snapped to Tae Gyeong who sighed and stood silently in his spot. "Nabi-ah, your mother and I had never gotten along. You should've known that."

Nabi raised a brow and crossed her arms across her chest. "So you're trying to place your sins onto my mom? Does that even make sense?" She scoffed.

"Who do you think you are to talk back to your own father?" The Mistress says.

Nabi raised a brow. "Father?" She scoffed again. "Ajumma the only reason I call him father is because calling him sperm donor is rude just like calling you a mistress is-" Nabi's sentence was cute short as The Mistress swung her hand and laid a good slap on Nabi's cheek. Nabi cupped her stinging red cheek in shock of her actually hitting her.

"Mom!" Tae Geyong shouted in shock.

"Don't you dare speak to me in this matter! Do you understand? I demand respect from the likes of someone like you!" She snapped.

Her father held a hand stopping The Mistress from moving any forward as she argued. "Enough." He says softly.

Nabi looked at him with utmost hate she felt for him. "I don't have a father! So if you want to pay respect towards a dead person who hated you more than there are stars in the sky, then I suggest you two leave or you'll do it in the inside of a jail house for intruding on a family's funeral. A family that has nothing to do with the two of you." Nabi threatened. "Tae Geyong oppa can stay, but sperm donor and mistress must leave."

"Nabi." Tae Gyeong says softly.

"No. We can all just be real about the real reason I was brought into this world. I was only here to make grandma satisfied. Grandma is dead. My mom is dead. None of us have ties to each other. Which is why my question remains. Why are you here and why did you bring her?" She asked.

"Yah!" The Mistress shouted. "Yo....You think your mom is better than me?! You think she's better than all of this?!" Nabi's father waved a hand, causing two guys who ran from behind him to start dragging the mistress away while she shouted. "I easily took her husband! She died while I'm still here! Who is better?!"

Nabi scoffed out in disbelief. "This is a funeral! At least have some class." She snapped at her father. "Leave! Leave, or I'm calling the police."

"Nabi-ah, this won't be the last of me. You hear?" He said walking away with a smirk while men followed behind him.

"This isn't some movie." She says in shock. "Why is he saying such weird phrases?" She asked herself.

Tae Geyong looked at Nabi and sighed. He frowned but took Nabi into a tight and overdue hug. He was happy seeing her after not being able to for so long. At a young age, they gotten along well. He treated her like a real brother would the moment The Mistress and Tae Geyong moved into their large house. Despite the disbute between their birth moms, they never saw each other as anything less as a sibling would.

"I'm sorry Nabi. About all of this." Tae Gyeong says. "How about we go sit and catch up?" He suggested.

Nabi nodded with a small smile. "That sounds good."

They went to the far end of the courtyard and sat at the edge of the walking area near the houses. Nabi's feet dangled while Tae Gyeong just leaned back against it without the need for his feet to leave the ground. As soon as they started talking, it was like they haven't been away from each other in over ten years. Tae Gyeong couldn't believe how mature she had gotten. However, he could tell that her immature attitude haven't been changed completely as a little glint showed while she teased him like she used to when they were young.

....

After successfully breaking away from Joo Won who was purposely keeping him hostage for Nabi's sake, Kwon Jiyong exited the room and out into the open. His eyes scanned the courtyard, looking for his beautiful butterfly who easily escaped. He made his way down the short steps and out into the open courtyard where it was mostly filled with other businessmen who attended the funeral.

When he finally spotted Nabi, his heart stopped. She sat smiling next to another man. The man was handsome as well. They were talking and smiling like they knew each other for ages. He hasn't seen Nabi smile since finding out her mom was sick. To have this random person that he didn't know talking to her and making her smile, which was something he couldn't do, it caused his heart to break a little. What was it that he lacked? What was it that she needed that she couldn't find in him? These questions rolled over in his head with more rolling in.

"Oppa," Bae Jang Mi stood next to Kwon Jiyong, "Don't start jumping to conclusions."

"Why do you always have an opinion? You always have something to say?" Kwon Jiyong snapped.

Bae Jang Mi wide eyed him and nodded in agreement. "I'm sorry, I guess I overstepped my boundries as a friend." She said formally. "Sunbaenim." She added.

"Jiyong-ah I'm-" Choi Seung-Hyun started before Kwon Jiyong cut his sentence short.

"Just go." Kwon Jiyong says. "Follow your nosy wife."
