Chapter 63 - Be Our Guests
Kwon Jiyong sat in his car looking down at his phone. Currently the second day of the funeral, and already news about Nabi's mother had gotten around. Not only in the entertainment world but also in the business world. Kwon Jiyong was currently reading articles on different websites about Nabi. It was double the popularity of both Nabi's career and the death of her mom.
"Breaking News: Former Chairwoman of Classical Designs: Women Wear has now passed away. Recently, our sources have found out more details about the Chairwoman and her whereabouts after not being in the business scene for over five years which also lead to her stepping down from the position as Chairwoman. It was later found that her disappearance from media attention and business duties were due to her illness which is also the cause of death. We confirmed that the Chairwoman is also the elder sister of Yang Hyun Suk, better known as the founder of YG Entertainment. The blood line doesn't stop there, the Chairwoman also confirmed to be the mother of Park Nabi, who had been in the media heat due to the relationship between her and the leader of BigBang, Kwon Jiyong better known by stage name, G-Dragon. Due to Park Nabi's reappearance into the media spotlight, her past about being a former member of disbanded girl group GEM resurfaces, raising even more questions as to why she had disappeared right before GEM could perform together for their debut back in 2006. Sources say that the Chairwoman's illness is related to Park Nabi's disappearance. Although Park Nabi received a lot of heat because she failed to take action after abandoning leadership duties, former fans have shared their thoughts and apologies to Park Nabi through SNS for writing negative comments about her during the time of hardship. Despite all the news we have of Park Nabi, We at BeMostLike's Magazine will like to give our condolences to the family and friends of Yang Hyun-Ae."
Kwon Jiyong sighed and sat back in his seat after reading the long article. He began nibbling on his finger as he tried to figure out who was behind telling the media about not only the death of Nabi's mother but also the reason for Nabi's disappearance. There weren't many who knew about the situation and as far as Kwon Jiyong knew, Nabi had no intention of saying anything about it to reporters. He let out a breath of frustration as no name came into his mind as to who could be responsible for the published article. That was until he was ready to step out of his car.
Accross the parking lot walked four girls in a group, arms hooked with one another. Out of the four, he only recognized two. All four dressed in black with their hair done neatly, dressed properly for a funeral. Angered by who he saw, he rushed out of his car and walked over to the girls that were about to head up the steps and into the traditional housing where the funeral was being held.
Shocked by his sudden appearance, they flinched back into each other. "Why are you guys here? Did you guys come to cause more trouble for Nabi?"
So-Hee (GEM's Maknae) shook her head with her hands held out. "Sunbaenim," She started, "that's not why we're here."
"Then why?" He asked.
"I don't know if she told you or if you heard from her but none of us knew why she left like that." Da Hye (The one who slapped Nabi) snapped. "She obviously doesn't tell anyone much."
"We're here to pay our respects. None of us knew about Nabi's mom being sick. It's the only thing we can do after not being in contact for so long." One of the unidentified girls said.
"No, Bori is right Sunbaenim. None of us knew. None of us, except for So-Hee." Another unidentified girl says.
"I overheard the conversation she had on the phone when she found out. A few days later she called me to tell me not to say anything to the other members. I don't know what her reason was but I had to respect my eonni's favor." So-Hee explained.
"So why did you tell the other girls now after so long?" Kwon Jiyong asks.
"Because Nabi is our friend." Bori (The member who was sent back to her hometown after GEM disbanded) spoke up. "Although our relationship brought us to the ending of our career, Nabi is still our friend."
Min Jung (The member who was banished to China) nodded in agreement. "Although Bori was shamed in her hometown and I had to leave for China, I never viewed Nabi as anything else. I was mad at her, yes, how could anyone not be, but at the end of the day, we're all still sisters. We went through the long never ending trials of trainees together and all of that had to mean something. Nabi eonni wouldn't just do it for fun."
The three girls looked at Da Hye while So Hee bumped her shoulder for her to say something. After sighing and rolling her eyes, she did. "I forgive her too." She said crossing her arms across her chest. "Now can we be let inside, Nabi's bodygaurd?" She asked sarcastically.
Kwon Jiyong shook his head. "One more question." He said. "Who spoke with a reporter about Nabi's situation?"
Everyone looked at Da Hye while she shrugged. "It was the least I could do after being such a jerk. Now let us through."
Kwon Jiyong sighed and watched as the four girls walked hand in hand into the housing. The article about Nabi was something he wasn't sure if it was a bad thing or a good thing. He couldn't ponder too much on the thought. He needed to go in to see Nabi.
He hadn't spoken to her since the hospital. Nabi insisted on taking Nara home to take care of her and console her. So he hasn't heard anything from her since.
He made his way up the steps and entered the large courtyard. Businessmen and women stood around on the outside of the housing, smoking while they talked amongst themselves. People were going in and out of the house as people went in to pay respect. Kwon Jiyong made his way, passing people he has never seen or heard of. However, they held their nose high. It was definitely on a different level of ranks from idols. He never felt this inferior to anyone before. But he has never been surrounded by large businessmen and women before.
Ignoring all the curious glances, he made his way to the room where Nabi was at. When he walked in, the smell of inscent filled his nostrils. Across the room, sat a large photo of Park Nabi's mother. The photo was framed with a golden frame while a black ribbon drooped down from the top corners. Surrounding the picture was a large amount of flowers decorated beautifully. Two candles were lit on each side of the tables while a small bowl of sand filled with already lit inscent sticks sat in the middle. Standing on the side of the room was President Yang, Nabi and Nara. President Yang wore a traditional hat as well as a band around his arm, as he represented the head of the house of the family. (Not exactly what it means) Nabi and Nara stood next to each other both wearing black hanboks with a special ribbon in their hair. Both their hair were tied up and neatly out of their bare faces.
Nara continued to silently cry while holding onto Nabi's hand. Her eyes were bloodshot read with light shades of black under them. Her cheeks and nose lightly shaded pink from all her crying as the obvious evidence dripped down her face and jaw.
Meanwhile, Nabi stood next to Nara with an emotionless face. There were little black droops under her eyes that made her look extremely tired. However, she looked like she was holding herself up just fine.
Kwon Jiyong stood in front of the picture of Nabi's mother. He reached out for the pile of unlit inscent sticks and took one. He held it out to a candle so it could get lit before sticking the end into the sand and watched it smoke up. Kwon Jiyong took a few steps back and presented a formal bow to Nabi's mom. The three who stood to the side watched as he got up and did the same to them. President Yang bowed deeply while Nabi and Nara stood unmoving.
Kwon Jiyong looked at Nabi. Nabi gave a small smile before he made an exit for others to pay respect. Bae Jang Mi and Choi Seung-Hyun soon arrived, paying respect as well. Soon the other members but Daesung came to pay respect. Daesung was busy with filming for his variety show and couldn't get time off for it. He sent a letter of apologies through Seungri to Park Nabi as well as a white envelope filled with money.
After awhile, Nabi took Nara to a large room where guests that attended were being fed. As they walked in, loud chatter and loud laughter were heard. Green bottles of soju and small glass cups were scattered across every table in the room. Nabi walked Nara over to where Joo Won was sitting and placed her there. She then left the table to grab food from where the food was being served to take it to Nara so that she may eat after not eating for a few days already.
Kwon Jiyong watched her every move as she moved throughout the hall. She began talking to guests, thanking them for coming to her mother's funeral. From what Kwon Jiyong was witnessing, Nabi knew them all pretty well. From the way she interacted with them showed how much they knew each other. She would take a tray and pile the tray up with empty soju bottles before returning back with more bottles for the guests to drink. They all clapped and cheered as she bowed before moving onto the next table almost doing the exact same thing. When she reached the table where Kwon Jiyong and the other members of BigBang sat, she smiled at all of them.
"Thank you all for coming." Nabi said as she stared down at their sitting positions.
"Don't even stress it Nabi eonni." Bae Jang Mi says with a sadden smile. "Do you need help with anything?" She asks.
Nabi shook her head. "I'm fine. Thank you." She smiles. "Do you guys need anything for the table? Do you guys need more rice?" She asked.
Kwon Jiyong spoke up before anyone else could. "We're fine." He said with a small smile.
"Alright. Just tell me or the other staff members if you need anything. I'm going to go talk to other people." Nabi smiled before walking off.
Kwon Jiyong watched as she approached the table where the other girls who were in GEM sat at. In an instant, they all stood up and took Nabi into a tight hug. The girl that Kwon Jiyong knew as Da Hye, the one who slapped Nabi, was whacking Nabi's arm while crying in apologies to her. Women were a weird species to Kwon Jiyong for he understood nothing of the interactions between that group of girls. However, they sat and talked for a while before Nabi stood back up. She walked over to the table where Nara and Joo Won sat at. It was near his table so he was in earshot of listening in on their conversation.
"Nabi," Joo Won says seriously, "There's something I need to show you." Joo Won said pulling out his phone and showing it to Nabi.
As Nabi read, she looked at Joo Won with wide eyes. "Is your secretary certain of this?" She asked and received a nod. She sighed a frustrated sigh before looking at Kwon Jiyong, then to Nara and then back to Joo Won. "I need you to keep them away for now while I deal with the situation."
Joo Won nodded and was about to reply when his secretary came running in and whispered into his ear. Joo Won looked up as his secretary and grunted out in annoyance.
"Are you sure? Right now?" Joo Won asked his secretary before receiving a tight nod. Joo Won then turned to Nabi and sighed. "He's here."
