Chapter 61 - Kwon Jiyong & Park Nabi
Kwon Jiyong waited in the elevator for the YG Idol's dorms to take him up to the last floor. After three days of not hearing from Nabi, he finally received a call from her to meet with him. She said she'd be waiting for him on the roof of the YG Dormitory. He wasn't staying at the dorm since he didn't have a schedule for his idol duties. Not a lot anyways. So he had to travel from his house to the building which took awhile.
When the elevator finally slide open, Kwon Jiyong ran out and up the few steps it took to get onto the roof level. When he opened the door, he saw Nabi standing on the far end of the rooftop, looking out over the city.
Kwon Jiyong silently walked over to her and wrapped an arm around her waist while placing his chin on her shoulder. Nabi lightly flinched from his surprise back hug but let her body lean into him with a deep sigh after feeling the warmth from him wrap around her own body. Kwon Jiyong placed a light kiss on her shoulder before closing his eyes and pulling her tightly into him. He missed her and was worried after not hearing from her for so long.
"My mom lied to me." Nabi said causing Kwon Jiyong to open his eyes. "I'm sure you put two and two together about why I hadn't become an idol."
Kwon Jiyong losen his hold around her waist and straightened out his posture. Nabi turned around, breaking his hold on her. She smiled at Kwon Jiyong and leaned her back on the railing of the roof, with her elbows propped up on each side of her. After inhaling and exhaling she looked at Kwon Jiyong to help calm her beating heart.
"Whenever you're ready to tell me, I'll listen." Kwon Jiyong says.
Nabi smiled and began explaining her story. "Joo Won and my mom were together in Seoul where we lived at the time. They were ready to watch GEM's live debut performance when I received that call through my manager's phone. My mom fainted and was currently in the hospital. I immediately ran out without even thinking."
"So that's when you were running down the halls and spilt juice on me." Kwon Jiyong says.
"I don't know. I don't remember. It was so long ago and my mind was so blurry with worry, I can't remember things clearly." Nabi explained. "But I do remember when I arrived to the hospital and spoke with the doctors, they said that it is cancer." After a long pause she continued, "It's a rare cancer called Inflanomous Cancer."
(A/N: That is a totally made up cancer name for, I am not a doctor or skilled at researching these information. However, I am very skilled at B.Sing things.)
"Inflanomous Cancer? What is that?" Kwon Jiyong asked.
Nabi nodded and reached out for Kwon Jiyong's hand. She began making her way to the bench swing, dragging Kwon Jiyong with her. As she sat, she pulled Kwon Jiyong's hand with her, forcing him to sit down next to her. She placed his hands over her lap as she kept them intertwined.
"The cancer causes tumors to grow randomly throughout the body. It's easily removed and dealt with, but no doctor or scientists could figure out what causes these tumors to constantly reappear even after continuous treatment. Doctors in Korea had no way of knowing because the case was so rare at the time. We were sent to a cancer treatment facility in America where I stayed by my mother's side for over ten years as she battled it out with cancer. This one tumor appeared on the back of her brain. It was small and doctors kept monitoring it to see if it grew because that would be dangerous. They couldn't operate on it either because of where it decided to plant itself. Surprisingly though, for over five months it stayed the same size. But it sat on this part on the brain where, when the brainwaves move, it would hit the tumor, causing my mom to faint and lose consciousness. She fainted quite often. It was a normal thing to me." Nabi sighed while looking at him. "Then one day, probably about three months before coming back to Korea, the doctors came and told us that no tumors have been appearing lately. They wanted to keep us for another few months or so to continue monitoring it to see if it changes. But it didn't. They came and told us we could go home. My mom just needs to take pills for her constant fainting she always endured."
"That's crazy." Kwon Jiyong sighed. "You and your mom had to endure all of that on your own?"
Nabi nodded. "There were times I couldn't handle seeing my mom in so much pain, I had to keep making up excuses to leave. I gained about 8 kg because most of my excuses were that I was hungry and I needed to go to the cafeteria to buy me food. Just for a short break to breath." Nabi sighed. "My mom always wanted me to eat by her side so I couldn't fake it." She said with shaking head.
"So now what? How is your mom doing now?" Kwon Jiyong asks.
"They performed surgery for head trauma that she received when she fainted. She must have hit the corner of something but I'm not to sure. They only operated on my mom because she is my mom. My mom and even my uncle is well known in the business world. So people there knew her. If it was anyone else with the same case, nobody would have performed the surgery." Nabi explained. "The doctors said that since it's been so long since she had gotten treatment, some areas in her body are impossible to remove which caused the tumors to grow to an unhealthy size." She sighed looking down at her and Kwon Jiyong's intertwined hands and ran the thumb of her free hand over his knuckles. "Joo Won called the cancer facility in America and talked with the doctor who took care of my mom."
"And what did the doctor say?" Kwon Jiyong asked.
"The doctor said that when I wasn't there, my mom begged the doctor to fake the documents of having cancer. She wanted to give up her battle. She was done fighting. She told the doctor that if she were to die, she wants to die on Korean soil. She wouldn't allow herself to die in America and away from her roots. My mom begged the doctor to lie to me. She begged them to fake her cure so that she could go back home." Nabi explained.
Kwon Jiyong didn't know what to say. His mind was running a mile per minute and his heart was even faster. It ached at Nabi's sadden words and with every ache he felt, he would lightly squeeze her hand. Someone he loved more than life himself is hurting and he couldn't do anything to help her. If he could heal her mom, then he would. He would heal her without even a second thought about it.
After a while of not speaking, Nabi breathed out a shaky breath before chuckling humorlessly. "She's going to die." She said with a scoff. "My mom is going to die. She's going to leave Nara and I behind."
Kwon Jiyong pulled Nabi into his side. He wrapped an arm warmly around her as his heart broke. Before he knew it, Nabi's loud sobs filled the air and it caused Kwon Jiyong himself to cry because his heart was aching at the site of Nabi. She was crying out words into Kwon Jiyong's chest as she soaked his shirt with her tears. Kwon Jiyong continued to pet her hair and kiss her head as he hugged her tightly as possible.
"What am I going to do?" She cried over and over into his chest.
Kwon Jiyong pulled her away from him and stood up off the bench. He stood in front of her and crouched down so they were at a closer eye level. Kwon Jiyong cupped Nabi's face into his hands and wiped her continuously falling tears with his thumb.
"Nabi listen to me!" Kwon Jiyong says loudly to stop her from crying. "Nabi!" He said again. "You can get through this. You can. You're not going to be alone. I love you and I'm not going to leave your side." Kwon Jiyong says softly. "I'm not going to leave your side."
