Chapter 34 - Unexpected
A few days later
Nabi sat up in her bed, cracking her back and groaning at the pain from doing so. Her eyes were still closed, she was absolutely tired and didn't feel like doing anything. However she made a promise to the members of Warriors and she couldn't break it. It would make bumping into them around the company awkward.
She got out of bed and began her routine in the bathroom which usually started with using it and ended with her face perfectly applied with makeup and her hair not done up in a mess like it was every time she woke up. Nabi made her way to the closet but stopped when she noticed outside her window. Little white ice piled out on the ledge of her window. Snow fell down from the sky, covering the ground in a thin blanket of ice. She smiled as she looked out. She couldn't believe how beautiful it was. It was like every winter, snow would become prettier than it was last year. And this year was no different.
She closed her eyes and made a wish. "Well winning a million won would be nice." She said setting realistic future goals for herself.
As she began to layer her clothes for the settling of the snow, Nabi made her way to her door where she slipped off her house slippers and slipped on her winter boots. She made her way to the parking lot instead of walking. Unlike YG Entertainment, KBS is far from her dorm and walking would be too tedious of a chore to do during winter. Plus, she wanted to stop at a flower shop. She wanted to buy the boys something to congratulate them on their debut. She watched their music video and was not surprised by how well the song came out. She knew they were working hard so she was sure the music video and the song itself was going to be up to YG Entertainment standards.
"How much flowers would you like to buy?" The clerk asked as Nabi walked aimlessly around the shop. "It's winter but the flowers grow especially beautifully during this time of year. They're just much harder to find."
Nabi raised a brow. "Don't you have a green house?" She asks the old lady.
She gives Nabi a deadpan look. "That's not the point." She sighs. "Are you going to buy flowers or not?"
Nabi nodded. "I am. I just don't know what flowers would work best when a group is debuting. My trainees are debuting today. I wanted to get them flowers." She smiles.
The lady gave her a fake smile. "Sure~." She says sarcastically. "Fangirls are crazy." She says to herself.
"Huh?" Nabi asks turning to her.
"Nothing." She smiles at Nabi.
"Alright. Get me some of those pretty flowers and wrap it up like that!" She says pointing to a display on the wall.
The lady nodded and began picking different flowers of different colors. They worked beautifully together and the white wrap she used to wrap the flowers into a bouquet was beautiful. And when the lady handed her the bouquet Nabi smiled at how it turned out. Being random pays off, she thought to herself.
"Alright. Can I get five more like these?" Nabi asked. "Exactly like this." She says pointing to the bouquet.
The lady sighed and began doing the same thing. Grabbing flowers and cutting the leaves and then wrapping it. By the time the lady was done, she was frustrated with Nabi but she didn't show it. Nabi kept directing her like a teacher but she just wanted to make sure the flowers were perfect for the boys. So when the clerk rung up the price, Nabi almost died but smiled as she handed the lady her sleek black company card. Nabi pointed to the basket and shrugged not caring about the price since she wasn't actually paying anymore.
Nabi walked out of the flower shop with a big smile while carrying a basket of flowers. She went to her car and beeped it open, readying her drive towards the KBS building. It shouldn't take long if the traffic is good but during winter the traffic usually gets a little slow. Which is why she rather just walk everywhere but the KBS Building is too far from the dorms for a walking distance. In Nabi's opinion.
....
Nabi made her way down the crowded hall. It was making her anxious at just how crowded it was. She could feel her heart beating fast due to the packed hallway. She finally approached the door that had Warrior written on it and knocked. She waited until she spotted the manager of Warriors open the door for her.
"Hello." She bowed as she entered.
"Teacher!" The boys cheered as she entered.
"Hey guys." She smiled as she waved to them. "I got you guys something." She says lifting the basket filled with bouquets of flowers. "It's a congratulatory present for your debut." She says.
The boys all took one and politely bowed in thanks. They began chatting and whatnot. Nabi could easily tell how nervous they were being. Their leader was the only one who kept a straight face and didn't show any emotion of nervousness. Which of course made him the most nervous out of the group. She helped them warm their vocals and even after that, they still looked nervous.
"Don't worry. This is what you guys trained for. Because of your show you guys have many fans here to support you." Nabi encouraged them.
"Thank you teacher." They said in unison.
"When do you guys go up?" She asks.
"Right after Dal Shabet Sunbaenim." Kang Joon Ki answers.
"Oh that's good. When does Dal Shabet perform?" Nabi questions.
Oh Jin Tae sighs. "They're first."
Nabi began laughing at all their faces. They were worried since they were performing second and it showed in their faces the moment they mentioned that Dal Shabet would be performing first. She missed being like this. It was the best part of being in a group. Going through training years with people who slowly become your family and they become so close to you, you could never imaging living life without your group members. That's why Nabi never sought to be an artist after quiting GEM. She felt like she would get lonely not being with her other sisters.
A man entered the room with a headset and an Ipad in his hand as he swiped his finger across the screen. "Warriors, please come out and wait inside the hall for your turn." He says not looking up and then leaving the room.
Nabi stood up and smiled at them. "You guys got this." She says. "Warriors fighting!" She cheered.
"Thank you teacher." Kang Joon Ki bowed.
"I'll watch you guys perform." She says pointing to the screen.
Nabi watched as all the cameras for their show followed the group out and Nabi was left sitting inside with the other managers. They began conversing with her about the group and whatnot. They were basically teasing the members of Warriors and Nabi couldn't stop laughing. The manager knew quite a lot about each members. He said he had been through weird situations that the boys put him in but it was amazing experience for him nonetheless.
"Oh look they're performing." Nabi says keeping her eyes glued to the television in their room.
The nervous state those boys were in earlier was long gone. They had this look of fierceness and charisma just flowing from their dance moves. Nabi didn't care though, she concentrated on their vocals and made sure they didn't make any mistakes while singing. However, they were doing much better than any practice of theirs that she has been to. Their dance moves, their singing, and their breathing is perfect. They did well and when it ended Nabi stood up and clapped for them even though they couldn't see her. When they returned Nabi stood up and gave them all a hug for their hard work. The nerves had shaken off of them but they had other places to go to. Other music shows to attend to.
"Thank you for coming here and showing support noona." Kang Joon Ki bows politely. While bowing, he looked at the other members to see that they were just standing there smiling at Nabi. "Yah!" He scolded coming out of the bow.
Instantly, the other group members went into a ninety degree bow. "Thank you noona." They said in unison.
"You're all welcome. Now I'm going to go now. Good luck on your other music show appearances. You guys are going to do great." Nabi smiled.
They all waved goodbye to Nabi as she exited their room. She wanted to leave KBS's Music Bank as soon as possible. She made her way down the halls that filled with idol groups ready to perform. She kept dodging people's bodies that were crowding the halls as they moved about.
After secluding herself away from the crowd, Nabi stopped and began controlling her rapid breathing from the crowd. She had her weight leaning against a wall as her hand rubbed over her heart to help stop the fast pace beating that was hitting against her ribcage. She was nowhere near the exit of Music Bank and that's what was getting to her.
"Why am I like this?" She asked herself as soon as her breathing fell under control.
Nabi turned and found a water fountain a few feet away from where she stood. Letting out a sigh of relief, She bent over to drink the water, hoping it would help calm her down somehow. It did. She came up from drinking and felt relief wash over her body and felt much more relaxed. She felt more confident to get herself out of the building.
"Nabi unni?" Nabi turned as she felt a hand touch her shoulder. "It's you right?"
Nabi gasped in shock. "So Hee-yah!" Nabi smiled as she took her into a tight gripped hug.
"Unni! I missed you so much!" She said into the hug. "Where have you been? I heard you were in America with your mom. How are you here?" She asked in a breath the moment they broke apart.
"You're still talkative." Nabi smiled. "I was in America but I came back a few months ago."
"Why haven't you visited me?" So Hee whined. "I've missed you so much."
Nabi sighed and playfully whacked her arm. "How could I? After what I've done."
So Hee clicked her tongue. "What do you mean? Right after the band disbanded, I immediately got picked back up and put into a group. I'm that talanted." She smiles.
"Really?" Nabi asks. "I'm proud of you. I'm glad you were able to get into another entertainment company."
"Yah! So Hee-yah!" Someone shouted from down the hall. "How many times did I tell you about running off like that? Especially when..." She stopped mid-sentence when she approached So Hee and Nabi.
Nabi stood there with wide eyes. "Da-Hye-ah..." Nabi says softly.
"What are you doing here?" Lee Da-Hye asked as she took hold of So Hee's arm and pulled her to hide behind her back.
"Unni-" So Hee complained.
"Be quiet." Lee Da-Hye scolded.
"Da-Hye-" Nabi was cut off when she felt her head forcefully whip to her right and the sting of her left cheek began throbbing from the impact.
"Da-Hye unni!" So Hee gasped with a hand over her mouth in shock at what just happened.
Ignoring So Hee, Lee Da-Hye eyed Nabi down. "You dare show your face here?" She snapped. "Do you even know what we had to go through? We all seperated. Bori went back to her hometown and became the laughing stock because she failed to achieve her dream. Min Jung went to study in China because her family couldn't face her anymore. Me? I had to repeat being a trainee for three years before being able to become an idol again. What about our poor So Hee? She had to do it for four years again. Four! She was almost placed into another group if I hadn't begged the CEO to place her in the same group as me." Lee Da-Hye ranted. "And what? You're back in Korea? Why?"
Nabi sighed with tears brimming her eyes. "Da-Hye-ah. I didn't know. I'm sorry. Everything I've done to you and the other girls. I'm so sorry."
"You're sorry? Why haven't you told us why? If you at least told us why you had left, we would've forgiven you easily." She says with tears brimming her eyes. "All those years I thought you actually cared about us."
"I did care! I cared so much about you guys. That decision I made all those years ago is something I didn't think through." Nabi tried to explain. "I didn't think it would've affected you guys this bad."
"Do you even regret leaving us?" She asks.
Nabi stared at her with a blank face. Just that look on her face already answered the question for her. Nabi didn't even need to say a word for Lee Da-Hye to know that Nabi didn't regret the decision to leave that day. Angered by the answer to her question, she lifted her hand ready to slap her again but mid-swing her wrist was gripped and stopped an inch away from Nabi's face.
"Who do you think you're laying your hands on?" Kwon Jiyong snapped with his eyes glowering down at Lee Da-Hye in anger.
