After dropping Nabi off at the dorms, where she said she will be taking her younger sister to the airport, Kwon Jiyong went straight to YG Entertainment to talk about the photos that were posted on SNS. He paid no attention to the looks of employees and other idols in the building that stared at him as he made his way to President Yang's office.
He knocked twice before entering. "President Yang." He bowed.
"Ah! If it isn't the kissing machine that's causing my phone lines to blow up." President Yang says as he looked up from his computer and to the door.
Kwon Jiyong sighs. "Isn't this what you wanted?"
"Yes. But I didn't expect it to be this bad. It's much more worst than when Jang Mi and Seung-Hyun gotten together." President Yang sighs. "Anyway, why are you here?"
Kwon Jiyong went to sit down in a chair facing President Yang's desk. "I want to know if anyone knows who it is. Do they know it's Nabi?"
"Nope. They know it's you." President Yang says leaning back in his office chair and folding his arms across his chest. "Was that all you're worried about?" He asked.
Kwon Jiyong shook his head. "I'm worried about Nabi. Being, not only an ex-member of GEM, but also being the reason for the group's breakup, I don't want her past to be brought up by dating me." Kwon Jiyong says.
President Yang's facial expression didn't change but he did straighten out his posture while sitting in his chair and propped his elbows on his desk. He began rubbing at his chin as he went into deep thinking. He never thought that Nabi's past would be involved in this scandal he had asked the two to be involved in. He hadn't thought that far. President Yang knew how brutal the media could be on an idol so he was mad at himself for not thinking about this. A hand ran up his face, hoping to rid the stress only for it to fail him.
"Alright. I didn't think this far ahead with the matter but for now I'll think of something." President Yang says.
"I already gotten her a new phone with a new number. It'll be harder for reporters to get a hold of her number for awhile. I made sure only a few people have her number." Kwon Jiyong says seriously.
"What about her Kakao? Or her Line? Did you make sure she stayed off of that?" President Yang asks.
Kwon Jiyong sighed. "Luckily I still have her old phone with her old phone number so she had to renew her Kakao for that phone." He smiles happily. "And she doesn't own a Line."
"You did well." President Yang nodded. "I didn't know you cared this much about my niece."
Kwon Jiyong looked away guiltily. "I do care for her. I don't want her past to be brought up and displayed on SNS or anything. The moment they find out who she is and that she's an ex-member of GEM, these sharks are going to attack."
"I understand. If that happens, I will do everything in my power to stop it." President Yang smiles. "For now, u will try and work on something. Now go rest for your comeback. I'll try and figure everything out."
Kwon Jiyong nodded his head and stood up ready to leave, bowing as he did so. He went to the dorms to shower and spend the rest of his time indoors. Nabi had informed him on her stay at her mother's house over the weekend. Again, he made sure she would text him when she arrives there. It would be awhile since she had to drop off Nara to the airport.
When Kwon Jiyong arrived to the dorm, he began his trip to the bathroom to shower. Showering in hot water is always the best way to relax, especially during winter. He let the hot water run down his body as he relaxed into the shower.
After his shower, he went to his room and sat on his bed. He wore nothing but his boxers as he continuously ran a towel through his hair to help dry it. His free hand reached over for his phone that sat aimlessly on the bed. After sliding the code for the phone to unlock, he saw he had a couple of messages here and there which were pretty normal. However, one read Nabi's new phone and he instantly pressed it so he could read the message.
One thing you have to promise to do during your busy schedule is at least text me. I don't expect one everyday. I will text you during your busy schedule as much as I want but it needs to be even. You need to try. Send me an explanation point if you're excited but you're too busy to reply. Text me a sad face when you're sad or a happy face when you're happy. You don't even have to send words. Just send something and I will be content.
A smile broke out as he read it. He promised himself he will try to at least text her whenever he had free time. Usually his free time was used up to sleep. However, Nabi was making it easier for him since all he had to do was send an emoji. Kakao has so many emojis that could explain his emotions further more than regular emojis on the phone. He was definitely going to do it.
Alright. I'll try to send at least an emoji. Through Kakao of course. Please don't give your number to anyone for the time being.
I won't. Joo Won oppa, my uncle, my mom and my younger sister are the only ones who know my new number. And of course you. Thank you for going this far to protect my identity.
Of course. You shouldn't worry about anything. If reporters or any fans attack you in any way, make sure to tell me.
That doesn't make me feel reassured. Are fans going to attack me?
I don't know. I spoke with President Yang earlier and he had informed me that this situation is much more worst than when Jang Mi and Seung-Hyun Hyung had gotten together. All Jang Mi got were threats through messages and SNS. I don't know what's going to happen.
Alright. I'll be fine. Don't worry and do well on your comeback in a few days. I'm going to sleep. Good night.
Good night Dwaeji.
Kwon Jiyong sighed and stared at Nabi's name on his screen. He decided to open the Internet on his phone and began his research. He wanted to see something and wasn't sure if it was still available. It's been so long. He was sure the Internet had everything, regardless what it was that people were looking for.
When he finally came upon a video, he clicked on it. A little tune played at the beginning of the video with the words GEM TV going across the screen. It also stated how it was the first episode of the show. The quality was nowhere like how it was now. The video looked fuzzy rather than clear like how videos are nowadays. Technology came a far way in Korea, he thought to himself.
"Hello! I'm leader of GEM, Park Nabi." Nabi's voice came from the screen. "This is the first time on camera like this so I'm a little uncomfortable." She giggled.
Nabi's hair was much longer and she had front bangs instead of her side split. It was obvious how much younger she looked. She looked like Nara but he could obviously tell the difference. Nara is immature. In this video, Nabi carried herself maturely. The way she talked and even the way she sat.
"Unni!" A girl with short hair appeared on camera. "Don't hog the camera."
"Alright introduce yourself then." Nabi says as she looked over to the girl.
"I'm Yoo So Hee but my stage name is Diamond. Since our group name is GEM, I'm Diamond." She says cutely.
Nabi chuckled. "The maknae speaks the truth."
"My turn!" The camera turned away from Nabi and Diamond, to another girl with long hair.
Kwon Jiyong watched as each member introduced themselves. They then proceeded to show their training process from dancing down to vocals. When the choreographer scolded the girls, Kwon Jiyong noticed that Nabi was the first to apologize. Then she would turn around and scold the person who messed up. Some parts have them separated and speaking individually, almost like a confession time. Nabi was sitting in the bathroom. She sat on the toilet, with the seat cover down, and her legs folded as she spoke to the camera.
"We're working really hard for our debut. We really hope our fans, if we have any, support us." She smiled into the camera.
After watching a few more episodes, he played the next one. They were sitting around on the dance floor, stretching out their bodies. He guessed it was for their dance practice. Someone entered the room and it caused the girls to stand up and bow. It finally accrued to Kwon Jiyong that it was the CEO.
"Show me what you guys got so far." The CEO says in an intimidating voice.
Without any words the girls stood in formation, waiting for the music to start. Once the music started, they began dancing in sync with one another. They began moving their arms and stepping across the floor. They moved their bodies with ease. It surprised Kwon Jiyong how well Nabi danced but her facial expression had a fierceness to it and it caused a small shudder to erupt down his own spine. He's never seen this side of Nabi before.
"Again." The CEO says as the song ended.
The girls didn't complain but they quickly returned to their first formation for the dance. Like before, they began to show their moves through the dance flawlessly. Flowing through the floor with each beat. Each step was on point. It was obvious the girls were out of breath by the time the song ended. They were breathing hard while posing the end of the song.
"Again!" The CEO shouts.
Kwon Jiyong sighed in exhaustion from watching them dance. He knew the feeling of doing the same dance in front of the CEO a couple of times. However, the CEO repeated 'again' three more times before the youngest member of GEM ran to the trash to puke. Nabi, stopped dancing as well as she ran across the dance studio to check on the maknae.
"Nabi-ah." The CEO scolded.
"Yes CEO-nim." Nabi says by the maknae's side.
"How are you keeping your group healthy like this? If you guys can't perform five songs straight, how do you guys think you're all able to debut? You guys think you guys can debut while the maknae is throwing up in the corner?" The CEO scolded.
"I'm sorry." Nabi bowed. "I'll try my hardest to get the members in order."
"What's the point?" He asked. "It was only five dances and you guys weren't even singing. If this is how the results of all your training is going to look like, don't bother."
Nabi nodded. "I'm sorry." She says bowing again.
As soon as the CEO left the room, Nabi turned to the other members. The maknae had tears going down her face from being scolded like that. The other girls were getting discouraged as well. Even through the screen Kwon Jiyong could easily see how torn up the girls were getting.
Nabi sighed. "Don't act like this. We were amazing." She smiled and went to hug the maknae.
"Because of me-" She cried into Nabi's chest.
"Shh." Nabi says. "Come." She waves as the other girls joined Nabi's warm group hug. She smiled as she patted their backs as they cried.
As soon as Nabi broke apart from the girls, she smiled at them. Kwon Jiyong couldn't believe how brutal that was. He couldn't believe Nabi wasn't crying.
"I'll be back." Nabi smiles. "Drink water and try again."
Nabi left the dance studio with the camera following her. It followed her up some stairs and onto the roof. She looked at the camera and politely asked the camera man not to follow her out onto the roof. The camera slightly nodded up and down.
The camera man kept the camera on her. She was still noticeably visibal through the glass doors. For a second, Nabi stood still on the roof before bending down and hugging her knees to her chest. She still wore the mic on her so her loud sobs were heard. It broke Kwon Jiyong's heart seeing her cry like that. She had to comfort her members before separating herself to cry alone. It just broke his heart. Her shoulders shook violently as she cried.
He had to stop watching. Kwon Jiyong had tears brimming his eyes. It was hurting him seeing Nabi going through that. Even through his trainee years, President Yang would tell the members of Big Bang that their dancing sucks or that their vocals aren't good, but President Yang had never said that they weren't good enough to debut. He didn't know how that felt so he couldn't blame Nabi for crying alone on the roof of the building.
.....
