Chapter 17 - Keep It Between Us
Min Hyorin had been waiting in the restaurant for twenty minutes. She should've known that Bae Jang Mi was running late. Like she always was. However, she was surprised when Bae Jang Mi did show up. She had her arms hooked with another girl and Min Hyorin shook her head at this.
"What girl did she drag into eating with her now?" She asked herself. "Jang Mi-ah." Min Hyorin waved the two over.
Bae Jang Mi let go of Nabi's arm and Nabi watched as she ran and hugged Min Hyorin. Nabi didn't know who she was but she looked familiar. She had to be famous if she was friends with Bae Jang Mi. She was also really pretty. Nabi sighed as she knew she was surrounded by beautiful famous girls while she would be sitting next to them like a dry squid. Nabi ignored her insecurities and placed a smile on her face. She walked towards the two who were hugging and waited for them to talk to her.
"Unni, buy me food." Bae Jang Mi said in a demanding tone.
Min Hyorin tsked her and flicked her forehead. "Yah~ I'm going to stop eating with you if I keep paying." She said.
Bae Jang Mi placed a hand over her forehead and eyed Min Hyorin down. "Fine."
"Hey! I would be more than willing to pay if you didn't eat so much." Bae Jang Mi just rolled her eyes. "Who's your new friend?" She looked over to Nabi who looked like a deer caught in the headlights. "If Jang Mi forced you into eating with her, against your will and you need help escaping, blink twice and I'll help you escape." She whispered loud enough for Bae Jang Mi to hear.
Bae Jang Mi rolled her eyes. "I didn't force her. She wanted to come. Right?" Bae Jang Mi looked over to Nabi who gave a forced nod. "This is Park Nabi. I told you about her."
"Ah~ the one with the cute cheeks. President Yang's niece. She does have cute cheeks." She smiled while Nabi stood awkwardly before the two. "I'm Min Hyorin." Min Hyorin said sticking her hand out.
"Nice to meet you." Nabi bowed and shook Min Hyorin's hand. "What year were you born?" Nabi asked.
"I'm an 86 liner. What about you?" Min Hyorin said.
Min Hyorin didn't look at all like her age. She looked a lot younger than she actually was. She started feeling more insecure with what age she looked to these guys. Despite Bae Jang Mi being the youngest between the three, Nabi knew that she also looked the youngest. She had a youthful grin and a strong personality.
"I'm an 89 liner." Nabi said.
"That's great. You can call me unni." Min Hyorin said.
"Let's eat before Jiyong oppa yells at me again for taking long during my lunch breaks." Bae Jang Mi said while sitting in the booth.
"Nabi-ah, I'll be dropping formalities if that's alright. I'm sure Jang Mi already dropped them with you." Min Hyorin smiled. "She's weird like that. I don't want to be the only one talking formal. So let's just all be friends"
Bae Jang Mi nodded her head eagerly. "Yeah. Which also means you'll be hanging out with us often." She smiled.
Nabi smiled sincerely. "I appreciate that."
After ordering their food, Nabi was sure she would be left out of the group since Bae Jang Mi and Min Hyorin knew each other for awhile. She knew the two would just end up talking like the old friends they were while she'll eat and look out the window from being the third wheel. That's how most of her friendship making went and she knew this one wasn't any different. But Nabi was wrong.
"Nabi unni, I saw you talking with Jiyong oppa for awhile when you came to the studio, do you two know each other?" Bae Jang Mi asked.
Nabi folded her arms over her chest, preparing to answer the question. "Yeah, we work in the same building. We also bump into each other a lot since I live in the dorms." She said preparing herself for more questions about Kwon Jiyong but they didn't come.
Bae Jang Mi tsked after hearing this. "You know, I wanted to live in those dorms but President Yang told me no. I told you, your uncle always picks on me." She complained.
"No!" Min Hyorin jumped in. "It was because those thugs kept bothering you, so for the safety of other artists under the group, he told you no." She explained.
Bae Jang Mi held a hand over her heart in feigned shock. "Wow! Youngbae oppa must tell you everything after hearing it from my husband!" She said shaking her head. "Wait till I get my hands on Youngbae oppa."
"You're not going to fight him nor do a dance battle for a silent victory again." Min Hyorin rolled her eyes. "Don't mind her. She'll get quieter when the food arrives." She explained to Nabi.
"It's fine." Nabi said. "Did you really have thugs chasing after you?" Nabi asked concerned over her safety.
Bae Jang Mi nodded. "Yeah it's a long story that ends with me getting shot. It was a very stressful situation at the time." She shrugged. "I got better though."
Min Hyorin smiled at Bae Jang Mi. "You did good." She petted Bae Jang Mi's hair. "Look food!"
After that, it was all silent when it came to Bae Jang Mi. Nabi stared at her and was astonished by the way she ate. Bae Jang Mi had one leg crossed over the other under the table, like a lady, as she continued to pile food into her mouth, like a man. Nabi has only ever seen a human eat like this and it was Joo Won. However, she found it interesting that a girl could have this amount of intake on food and still looked as good as she did. Nabi was still shocked and she looked over to Min Hyorin who was eating normally and not minding at all the way Bae Jang Mi eats.
"You have to eat to enjoy the food." Bae Jang Mi says with her mouth filled with food.
Min Hyorin reached to cover her mouth while Bae Jang Mi spoke. "Is the food not to your liking?" She asked since Nabi hadn't touched her food at all.
"No. No. It tastes great." Nabi says digging into her food.
....
Kwon Jiyong stepped out of the recording booth and smiled at the success of recording. It was no thanks to Bae Jang Mi who had ditched him over an hour ago to eat lunch with Nabi. He was wondering about how they were doing. He already knew, right off the bat, that Nabi wasn't good with strangers. Kwon Jiyong knew for a fact that Bae Jang Mi could be a very friendly person (when she wanted to) and wasn't afraid to express her emotions. Any of them. Whether it be sad, happy, lovingly, or angry. Which was what made her personality so strong and her relationship with people stronger. That's why Kwon Jiyong couldn't have picked a better match for Choi Seung-Hyun.
He looked on the couch that was always in the recording studio and shook his head. Dong Youngbae had arrived forty minutes ago and was now annoyed that Min Hyorin hadn't shown up yet. He was supposed to be meeting her in the studio, forty minutes ago. He sat on the end of the couch with his legs up to his chest as he tapped away on his phone. Meanwhile, Choi Seung-Hyun's long body was laying on the other half of the couch, also, waiting for his other half. They were no help to Kwon Jiyong whatsoever. Seungri, he's been on his phone for the past hour doing who knows what. That was until he shot up from the floor and held his phone out for everyone to see, but he was moving too much, nobody saw anything but blurry words on a bright screen.
"I found it!" Seungri said.
"Found what?" Youngbae asked.
"The article about Park Nabi. The one where she was in a group. They were supposed to debut the same day we debuted." He said.
Kwon Jiyong took hold of Seungri's phone and began to read the article aloud. "Girl group, Gem, announced to be disbanding by CJ Entertainment's officials, just after debut. Due to leader and eldest group member Park Nabi, who's held the position as leader, main vocalist and lead dancer in the group. She had failed to show up to the group's debut stage performance on KBS Music Bank, causing the other girls to attend the stage without her. Yoo So Hee, also known by her stage name, Diamond, is the maknae of the group and sang all of the missing parts due to Park Nabi's absence that day. Fans, outraged by Park Nabi's irresponsibility to show up for the debut stage, had claimed to completely leave the fandom all together. Gem TV, the group's variety show on their process go debuting, was cancelled as well, causing another uproar within the fans who had received no answers to Park Nabi's disappearance. Popularity wise, Park Nabi was the most popular amongst the other girls in the group, not just because of her beauty but because fans fell in love with her quirky and sweet personality that was often shown through out the group's show, Gem TV. So fans want to know, why did Park Nabi leave? Where did she go? No answers were given to us by the other members, except for Yoo So hee, Diamond. She had said little words on SNS. Stating, 'Don't misunderstand.' and 'Don't jump to conclusions on situations nobody knows about.'. When asking the other girl members about her posts on SNS, none of the other girls knew what Yoo So Hee had meant by that. Therefore, the mystery of why Gem had gotten disbanded after Park Nabi's no show on their debut stage, will remain a mystery to us." Kwon Jiyong looked to the side of the article where a picture of Nabi was placed along with the article. It was indeed her and he confirmed it with one look. "Wow." He said to himself.
"Who's Park Nabi?" Youngbae asked.
"She's the new vocal coach. I was telling Jiyong Hyung that she looked familiar. Remember during our debut stage when Jiyong Hyung had juice spilt all over his shirt? It was because of Park Nabi." Seungri explained. "What's the relationship between you two anyway?" Seungri asked turning to Kwon Jiyong.
"What are you talking about?" Kwon Jiyong asked.
"I just heard you guys talking. You two seem pretty close." Seungri says.
"Yah~ why are you in other people's business." Kwon Jiyong said flicking Seungri's forehead.
Choi Seung-Hyun smirked while laying down. "I heard it too."
Kwon Jiyong closed his eyes. "There is nothing going on between us."
"Great. Then you wouldn't mind if I ask her out on a date." Seungri said smirking.
"Don't even think about it!" Kwon Jiyong said raising his leg ready to kick Seungri's shin.
Everyone in the room started laughing at Kwon Jiyong, even Teddy. Teddy had a little idea of what was going on between the Nabi and Kwon Jiyong. While Kwon Jiyong kept telling them to shut their mouths while he rolled his eyes, the girls arrived back into the studio, laughing. Both Choi Seung-Hyun and Youngbae stood up when they walked in as if they were in the army and their captain walked in on them sitting around doing nothing. The three girls stood in the doorway eyeing the five men in the room. Everyone in the room stopped laughing when the girls walked in. Kwon Jiyong was staring at Park Nabi who had her hands placed in front of her while looking at the men in the room.
"Why is everyone laughing?" Min Hyorin asked.
"And why did it stop when we walked in?" Bae Jang Mi asked with a raised brow.
"Hello." Seungri said sliding in between Bae Jang Mi and Min Hyorin to speak with Nabi who was between the two but further back. "I'm, Lee Seung-Hyun but you can call me Seungri." He smiled handsomely.
"Hi. I'm Park Nabi." She bowed politely.
"Yah~" Kwon Jiyong scolded while smacking the back of Seungri's head. "Go and sit down."
Youngbae shook his head and wrapped an arm around Seungri's neck. "Yah~" He said shaking his head.
"What did I say wrong?" He asked as Youngbae lead him back to the couch.
"It's the way you looked at her." Youngbae said shaking his head.
"I didn't do anything..." Seungri said to himself.
Kwon Jiyong approached Nabi with a smile. "Sorry about all of that."
Nabi smiled sincerely. "No. Don't worry about it."
"Was lunch with those girls good? They didn't pick on you did they?" Kwon Jiyong asked.
Nabi shook her head. "Of course not. They're very fun." She chuckled. "Jang Mi and Min Hyorin unni is very peculiar."
Kwon Jiyong nodded in agreement. "Wait, you said 'unni'? You guys are close now?"
Nabi sighed and then nodded. "Yeah, Jang Mi insisted." She smiled. "Anyways, I'll see you after work. I have trainees to tend to."
"Alright, see you later." Kwon Jiyong said.
Nabi waved at the two girls and bowed at the rest who were in the studio. Everyone looked at Kwon Jiyong expectantly. They wanted him to explain what the conversation between the two was about. While Kwon Jiyong just went straight to his laptop, ignoring the prying eyes of the other people in the room. They were all too afraid to bother him about the subject.
Meanwhile, Bae Jang Mi... "I didn't know you were friendly with Nabi unni."
Kwon Jiyong turned around and eyed everyone. "Is no one going to help? If not, please get outside."
Bae Jang Mi giggled at his offensive nature. "Everyone should start going." She said kicking people out. "Even you my love." She said addressing her husband.
"Why do I have to go?" Choi Seung-Hyun said annoyed.
Bae Jang Mi rolled her eyes. "I'm helping Jiyong oppa. You guys came to hang out and bother him." She walked over to the door and held it open. Everyone started gathering their things and walking out with a wave. "I'll see you when I get home." She said as her husband who lent down and pecked her lips. As soon as Bae Jang Mi closed the door, she checked Teddy to see him with his ears covered with the headset, listening to the desktop. "Red is about her isn't it?" She said standing by Kwon Jiyong.
"What?" He asked shocked.
"Red. The song. It's about Nabi unni, right?" Bae Jang Mi smirked. "Oppa, you don't have to hide anything from me. I'm not going to say anything." She said smiling. "I promise."
"Yeah right. Everyone in Big Bang knows what goes on between you and Choi Seung-Hyun. What's stopping you from doing the same to my business?" He rolled his eyes.
Bae Jang Mi smacked his arm. "You think of me like that?"
"No, I just..."
"Forget it oppa." She said stopping him from speaking anymore. "Everyone knowing about my business with my husband, isn't like I don't want you guys to know. In all honesty, I don't mind. It's my business so I get to decided who knows about it. However, your business is only meant for my ears, and not for my mouth." Bae Jang Mi smiled. "Oppa, it's okay. I won't tell anyone things that don't have anything to do with me. But if you don't want to talk about it, then I won't ask anything."
Kwon Jiyong tsked. "You really do talk a lot."
Bae Jang Mi rolled her eyes. She kept quiet for a few long seconds before she spoke again. "Do you like her?" She asked suddenly, which was followed by a laugh at how shocked Kwon Jiyong was. "Oppa! Your face!"
"Shut up." Kwon Jiyong said while scooting his chair into the desk. "Let's start working already."
