Chapter 5 - A Vanilla Spell
Lina stood behind the counter of the coffee shop, yawning. Since leaving Park Nabi's company as a Secretary, she went back to all her normal jobs. Meaning, after bartending through the late night, she was up early delivering milk to houses. Now she was at the coffee shop, attending her shift. It was in the middle of the week, so it wasn't excessively crowded like it was during the weekends.
"Lina!" Lina looked over to the entrance of the coffee shop.
"Bori eonni!" Lina smiled happily. "What are you doing here?" She asked looking down at her wrist to check the time on her watch. "Your shift doesn't start till later."
Bori nodded. "Yeah, Ri Na called saying she wouldn't be able to relieve you on time since she's busy." She rolled her eyes. "Same old excuses."
Lina shrugged. "Maybe she really is busy."
Bori shook her head. "The only thing that girl is busy doing is trying to look good so she can seduce a young chaebeol and get married off into a rich family." She scoffed. "Anyways, since I'm here early, you can leave if you want."
Lina's eyes grew wide as a soft gasp of appreciation sounded from her mouth. "Really?" She questioned, slightly tilting her head.
"Yeah, you can leave early. I'll work the rest of your hour or thirty minute shift." Bori says slipping her bag off her shoulders and placing it on the counter. "It's no big deal, really."
"Thank you so much!" Catalina bowed deeply.
"You don't need to bow like that." Bori said looking around embarrassingly.
Lina took her apron off and hung it where it usually hung. She took her bag from under the counter and waved an excited wave to Bori. She just smiled and shook her head as she watched Lina leave.
Lina was excited to have free time. Her mind roamed straight to a PC Bang that had a 711 near it. She ran, crossing the street in the process. She had a free two hour to hit up the PC Bang and get in her time for dramas. However, she needed snacks which was why she needed to stop by the 711 near the PC Bang. She was about to get her dramas and snacks on.
Lina entered 711 with the ring of the door bell. She smiled happily as her feet took her exactly where she wanted. Chips. She began picking a couple of chips off the shelf and then headed to her next target; chocolate. After picking a few chocolate bars, she went to the fridge and took a couple of drinks out. She carried them all with both hands and dropped all her snacks on the counter for the cashier to scan them. He bagged them and handed them to Lina after she paid for her things by using her phone. She was too excited.
Lina excitedly made her way next door to the PC Bang. She entered and paid for her seat. She started out her free time by laying out her snacks and hooked up the large ear phones to the computer and then finally searched up the websites she uses to watch her dramas. And upon her piles of currently watching dramas, she quickly picked one and sat there with her eyes glued to the screen while digging into the bought snacks.
..............
"Stay tuned next week for the latest episode of House of Love." The screen played as Lina looked at it.
"That's it? I have to wait until next week?" She snapped hitting the screen. "How can she marry him?! They're not meant for each other! I hate dramas."
"Ma'am, you're no allowed to hit the computer." One of the staff members says coming up to her.
Lina embarrassingly smiled. "Sorry. I must of lost it for a second." She bowed. Lina sighed and looked down at the computer and saw the time. "Oh my god! I'm going to be late!"
Lina began shoving all her things into her bag and logging out of the computer. She rushed out of the PC Bang and began panicking as she noticed the sun was soon setting. She ran down the street, heading straight for the bus. As soon as she stopped, a bus pulled up and she took it. The bus however, could only take her so far since it wasn't the exact bus she usually road in. It didn't take her as close to her job as she would have wanted it to.
Lina soon began running down the street as the sun had began to sink below the horizon. She made it onto a street where stores lined up on each side. There were no roads just a large walk area for people to walk freely from shop to shop. However, as Lina made her way onto this street, there was a large crowd stopping her from even seeing the opening to her job.
"Why is there a large crowd blocking my way? I'm going to be late." She whined. "No I can do this. Just push your way through Catalina. Fighting."
Lina began running, and pushed her way through the crowd who eyed her annoyed at her pushy hands. She suddenly broke through the crowd and tripped, instantly falling onto someone.
The host for the show panicked for a second as he watched a girl tackle Daesung to the ground. He straightened out his poster as he looked into the camera, trying to recover what had just happened. He let out an awkward chuckle as he stared at the girl straddling Daesung with her long curly hair all over the place.
"The fans here are very eager to see Kang Daesung." He says into the mic.
Lina instantly jumped off, flipping her hair out of her face as she stared at the man she had just knocked over. He laid out on the floor in confusion and pain from hitting his back against the concrete. Lina instantly panicked as it registered in her mind who it was. She groaned at her clumsiness as she took hold of his arm to help him up.
"I'm so sorry." Lina says with a bow.
Kang Daesung rubbed his back and groaned out. "It's okay. I'm sure you're just eager to meet me." He smiles.
Lina smiled, catching on to the meaning. "I'm actually late for my job." She says. "Your fans are blocking the street that I take to get to my job."
"Fan what's your name?" The emcee says walking up to Lina who instantly covered her face.
"I guess that's my fault." Daesung says.
"Well...." Lina dragged off. "I have to go. Bye!"
Before Daesung could stop her and ask for her name, she ran off, zooming past the staff crew as she did so. Daesung felt like he was knocked over by an angel. He felt like he had fallen in love right on the spot. It felt dramatic to him, but he felt that her smile was the best thing he has ever seen. Even the way she smelled. She smelled like vanilla extract and when she knocked him over, he was blinded by her smell that engulfed his body and blinded his senses completely. It didn't take long before the emcee broke the spell and he continued on with the show, never really forgetting about the girl who smelt like vanilla.
