Chapter 29 - A Day Off

Lina was home on her couch, lounging around. She was sitting helplessly bored on her phone. She didn't know that she was slowly getting popular amongst the Korean Male population. Most of them were intrigued by Lina's Korean looks that was manifested with a mix of Hispanic flair. Magazines with photos of her in them were being bought because she was featured in them. People -men specifically- were curious about her and her personality. She was getting a lot of praise for her curvaceous figure yet being fit and healthy as well. Men were starting to say that her body was their ideal type.

All things weren't that positive. A lot of comments online were very fault finding. The comments were aimed towards the photographer as well as photos of Lina herself. They commented on how they should have lightened her skin more or to make her thighs fit the standard of beauty in Korea. A lot of the comments section insisted on the editor to have hidden Lina's cellulite (which was basically non-existent) better. These were the comments that caught Lina's eyes. They were all negative and she didn't know how she was feeling about it.

"Here, coffee. Just the way you like it." Daesung says placing a cup on the coffee table in front of her.

Daesung didn't have a schedule until later so he didn't mind spending his day with Lina. It was nice for a change since they were always spending time together during the night time. He didn't mind at all. Spending time with Lina was becoming more and more of a choice rather than an obligation to President Yang's request. It was becoming more natural for them to just hang out with each other.

"More sugar than coffee?" Lina asked looking up at him through her thick lashes.

Daesung chuckled and nodded. "Yes." He sat next to her and casually placed an arm around the back of the sofa. She didn't seem to be bothered by it. "What are you doing?"

"I was looking at this photo that this clothing company posted up on their website. The comments were a bunch of mixed signals." Lina explained as she handed him her phone to see for himself.

Daesung looked at it, scrolling through the comments. He didn't like that men were commenting about how sexy Lina was without even knowing who she was. As an idol himself, reading comments like these from fans were commonly known to him. Even the negative ones. However, he didn't like the way they spoke about Lina in such a negative light either. How they nitpick at her image as if something was wrong with it.

He turned his head, looking at Lina to see if she was alright. Knowing he was looking at her, she turned her head as well. Because they were so close, their noses brushed against one another. For a good long minute, they stayed like that, staring deeply into each other's eyes. Her eyes were beautiful, blinking curiously back into his own. Her lashes were unbelievably long. He was so close to her. Leaning even just a little would plant his lips over hers but instead he moved back. Putting a bit of space between them before things got carried away. He cleared his throat as he did so.

"Ignore these comments." Daesung started. "Becoming a celebrity means this. They'll comment stuff like this because they think they're more worthy of being in your spot. It's because they're comparing themselves to you but soon finding that you're without flaw. So, they have to bash on you because of their own insecurities."

Lina looked at him, tears brimming her eyes. She wasn't going to lie to herself and act as if she wasn't bothered by the comments. She was always bothered by them. Back in high school, Su Bin and Hong Bin would be there to defend her much kinder hearted personality. Now as an adult, they were doing their own things and couldn't come to Lina's rescue like they always did when they were younger. She learned to keep her head up and look past it but for some reason, it hurt more online. The fact that these people -who didn't know her- judged her based on her appearance. They didn't know her personality nor did they know anything about her for that matter, so it hurt knowing that they could judge her so easily.

"Thank you." Lina whispered.

Daesung turned to her once again and noticed the tears that were brimming her eyes were now sliding down her cheeks. He shook his head, not liking the teary looks of Lina's usually bright eyes. Daesung cupped her cheeks and wiped her tears away with his thumb.

"Shh, don't cry." Daesung says pulling her into his arms.

"Thank you." She repeated.

Lina leaned over and wrapped her arms around Daesung's torso. He pulled her into his chest as she cried. Her ears were up against his chest, hearing his fast beating heart. In a way it was calming her down. Soothing her aches. She did feel better by what he said. It usually didn't bother her but she guessed the factor of it being online, had to do with the whole thing.

...............

Later that day, Lina was left alone. Daesung had left to his schedule while she was left to watch television by herself. She was caught up on mostly all her dramas, which she guiltily spent most of the day tending to do so. She made herself dinner. A very lonely dinner. It was because she was eating healthy things. She hated it at first but she found recipes online and found great ones that were both healthy and tasty. She didn't want to break diet. Even though she was tempted to.

While she was curled up on the television watching a movie, her doorbell rang. She got up to see who it was on the monitor, only to see her manager. She welcomed him in with a bright smile.

"Have you eaten already?" She asked as they both entered Lina's home.

"Thanks, but I did. I came because I got you a cellphone." He says sitting on her couch.

Lina raised a brow. "Uhm, thanks." She says skeptically. "I have a phone though."

"You need another one for celebrity reasons. I already set up separate accounts on different SNS for you to connect to fans. You need to gain a little more attentions. Try posting pictures daily on Instagram and on Twitter. You'll soon get your official blue checkmark after awhile but you need to do this daily." He explained.

"Oh, okay. I can do that." She smiled. "Was that all?"

He shook his head. "Director Kang wants you to start learning English so I found a few English tutors for you. You'll get to pick which one you want."

Lina looked at him questioningly. She was never good at studying. She actually took a course on English during her college years but found it really hard. It was hard pronouncing English words and spelling them too. Learning to place certain words in the correct order in a different language was hard. English wasn't for her so she was kind of worried about this topic.

"Why do I need to learn English so suddenly?" She asked sitting across from him.

"Director Kang said you're starting to get a lot of attention overseas within the fashion community. He wants you to be prepared because he thinks you're going to be opening doors for YGK Plus and bringing in good renevu. The end result is, he wants you to work alongside other models overseas. So he wants you to be prepared." He explained.

"I don't know, I wasn't very good in English. I can speak Spanish though. Does that help?" Lina says hopefully.

"I don't know. I'll ask Director Kang but because America's second language is Spanish, I think that would be enough for you overseas." He informed, causing her to smile. "Anyways, I gotta go. My wife is going to be mad if she hears I'm working late again. I'll call you tomorrow."

Lina walked her manager out, wishing him a safe trip home. A smile broke out over her face. Since she was young she wanted to travel overseas. The farthest she got was to her cousin's home in Texas but she wasn't allowed to go out without her parents tagging along. It was to the point she rather stay indoors than to explore. Now, this was an opportunity for her to travel and see the world. It made her bubble with excitement as well as motivation to keep on going.

She looked at the new box, with a brand new cellphone inside it and sighed. The box sat on the coffee table, looking at her expectantly. Sitting on the sofa with her knees to her chest, she took the box in her hand and opened it. Pulling out the phone, it had a sticky note with a smiley face on it. It also had a message from Lina's manager, letting her know they had set it up.

When she turned on the phone, she almost had a heart attack from the home screen. Both her manager and road manager stared back at her smiling. She rolled her eyes knowing that the photo was taken just a few minutes ago.

Her attention soon went onto SNS pages. She started out with her Kakao Story. She took about five photos before finally choosing one she liked. She posted up with the caption ㅎㅇ which is a texting slang for Hi. She felt like it was a perfect opening to an SNS profile. She then took the same photo she posted on Kakao story and posted it on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter all with the same caption. She then began to perfect her profile information. Letting everyone know she is a model under YGK Plus.

Her phone dinged. Showing a notification from Instagram. She seemed to have gotten a new follower, a like on her photo and a comment. It was from Daesung from what she could tell in his photos and his many, many followers. So Pretty. He wrote. Two words and it caused Lina's cheeks to redden and her heart to skip a beat.

Daesung was a very simple man. Lina wondered why even with the simplest gesture, made her heart flutter and her cheeks warm.
