A fight— indeed, a fight was not something everyone can avoid and Hyunjin was now arguing with his parents. He had not say anything about the scholarship but it still somehow reached them.
This was why he didn't want to join the competition. He loved his parents and he knew they loved him too— because of that he didn't want to fight.
He knew how they were worried about his future. They were never one to control his life but once they knew he wanted to be a dancer, they were a bit worried for him. Maybe a bit worried wasn't enough as a word because they became this pair of couple Hyunjin barely recognize.
"Can we not talk about this now?", He finally snapped. Just two days ago, everything was peaceful but today his day was ruined because the news arrived to his parents.
"Hyunjin-", he didn't listen to anymore words from his parents and dashed out from the house. He should be going to school but he instead his legs lead him to the nearest bus stop. He went in a bus that brought them to the city.
Some times alone was what he needed to calm himself down. This was the first time he ever got angry at his parents and it was the first time he ever escaped from school.
What now? Will his parents be angry? Will his teachers be questioning him later? Will his friends be worried?
There was no use on asking those questions to himself when he already ran away from his problem.
So, he ended up sitting in a mall. He wasn't buying anything, he just stayed there staring at people walking around. Some were couples, some were friends and some were families.
Everybody had lives of their own so what made him any different from them? Why can't all human just be happy all the time? That was a wishful question. It's impossible to be happy all the time.
This wasn't exactly the time to be craving so cakes and breads but skipping his breakfast this morning, it did a tons to Hyunjin's stomach, don't you think so?
.
No matter how angry he was, he shouldn't have left without eating. Now with the little money he had in his pocket, he could only buy one slice of cake.
He finally moved from the bench and walked out from the mall. The nearest bakery according to his phone was a few walks away.
Then his feet brought him to a bakery called Hyoja Bakery. He stood there, thinking if he ever went here since it was so familiar.
He pushed the thought away and pushed the door open. His stomach was calling for some cake and he didn't have the time to reminisce if he ever went here or not. A bakery was a bakery, there shouldn't be anything weird about knowing a bakery or two unless you're a sad human who didn't know about the blessing of eating bread, cakes and baked goods.
For no particular reason, the first thing he saw was the cheesecake displayed in the middle of the bakery. In normal days, he wouldn't buy that, he would rather have some red velvet cake but like he said...for no apparent reason, he wanted to have some cheesecake.
Bringing the cake in his hand, he sat in one of the table inside the bakery and ate in silence. The cashier was looking at him quite a few times. Maybe because he was wearing a school uniform and that he wasn't at school even when he was wearing it. Hyunjin just hoped no adult with hero complex would come and lecture him to go back to school for his future.
Too bad for him, he actually saw a couple of people trying to approach him in the bakery, so, he ran off again.
The more he thought about it, the more he regretted it. He really shouldn't have dashed off this morning. He should have grabbed an outfit before he went out.
Now, he had to always run from those adults who were judging him.
"Out of all place, I can't believe you actually went here", he was caught by surprise, the least person he thought he would see was standing next to him.
"What are you doing here?", Jisung raised an eyebrow at him. "Well, I...not important. Let's just say I was craving for some cheesecake but now I'm not"
Hyunjin didn't know what Jisung was doing here but the fact that he was also here also meant, "you ditched school?"
That was a dumb question. "Yeah?".
"If you can ditch school, why can't I, hotshot?", That was supposed to be offensive and Hyunjin wasn't quite happy hearing that. He pushed Jisung away. "If you're done then just leave me. Go get your stupid cheesecake"
And that was supposed to be offensive to Jisung because all Hyunjin knew, Jisung loved cheesecake. There wasn't a day he wouldn't scream about his craving for some cheesecakes.
"I come save your grace and you're really telling that to me?", Jisung didn't listen to Hyunjin's protest even as he dragged Hyunjin away. They walked back to the mall and Hyunjin had his suspicion. What did Jisung exactly mean by saving his grace?
The men toilet were empty, there were only two of them and the taller was a bit afraid Jisung may punched him in the face for saying that cheesecake was stupid but the pain didn't come.
Instead, Jisung shoved him into one of the cubicle and threw an article of shirt to him. "Wear it. I'm going to change too"
He had no choice but to wear it. He couldn't complain since he still wanted to walk around the city.
Still, the question he had was...why was Jisung here? Why did Jisung knew he was there?
The exact answer to that was today Jisung escaped from the school because he found out Jisung didn't come to school. The second answer was that, Jisung didn't know he was here. He just went around all over the places searching for him and he didn't want to be cliché but it may be fate that he suddenly had a craving for some cheesecakes.
"Where are we going?", Hyunjin asked when he went out. Since Jisung gave him the shirt, he wouldn't listen to Jisung once.
On the other hand, Jisung who was leaning against the wall outside the toilet raised his eyebrow and shrugged. "anywhere you want to go?"
Then he heard Hyunjin's grumbling stomach. The shorter boy pushed himself up from the wall. "I guess we could to eat? I'm quite hungry. The food court is on the second floor."
"Come on", with a sincere smile and soft gaze, Jisung grabbed Hyunjin's hand. It wasn't the first time this week Jisung did this and Hyunjin hadn't felt like he wanted to throw Jisung's hand yet. Hence, he just let it be. Better stay silence than mentioning it at all.
"Anyway, you're not going to tell me whatever is making you sad, right?", Jisung asked once their order arrived at the table.
"How do you know?", The question made Jisung looked up from his food, his head tilted. "Me being sad I mean"
Jisung laughed, shrugging his shoulder before pointing at his head. "Maybe I'm a psychic"
Seeing how Jisung wasn't taking him seriously, the taller rolled his eyes and slowly picking up his spoon and chopsticks. "You won't tell me what's making you sad so, naturally I won't tell you how I know", even if Jisung told him, Hyunjin wouldn't believe him.
Actually he had known Hyunjin was upset ever since the night he tried to climb out the window at his house. For Hyunjin to be out at that hour could only meant two things. First, he was hungry so, he went to the convenience store. Second, he was feeling down and had a lot of thoughts. Hyunjin didn't bring anything from the convenience store, so, it could only meant he was upset.
Jisung was pretty glad he almost fell down and died again that day because he ended up coming back home with Hyunjin. Hence, he distracted Hyunjin a bit from what he had in mind.
After they finished eating, Jisung dragged Hyunjin out of the mall. "Where are we going?", Hyunjin asked like a lost puppy when he saw Jisung pulling him towards a car. "This is..."
"My mom's car!", Jisung said rather proudly before taking out something from his pocket, shoving it to Hyunjin's face. "I got a licence!", Hyunjin pushed the card away from his face, all he knew Jisung just wanted to show off to him but he didn't really mind it.
He didn't question it either if his mother minded him bringing her car around like this. Especially when he was ditching school. He narrowed his eyes at Jisung, wondering if he stole the car from his mother before coming here out of all place.
"Where do you want to go next?", Jisung asked once he sat in the driver's seat.
"Aren't you the one who's busy dragging me around? You should know where to go when you pulled me with you", in a logical sense, Jisung wouldn't be pulling him around if he didn't know what to do or if he didn't have any plan but it seemed like Jisung was really just spontaneously improvising this whole hangouts.
Jisung rubbed his head. "Well, maybe we should go back to the mall. I don't really know what to do outside other than...going to the mall", Hyunjin was looking at Jisung, "for real?", He asked when he saw Jisung turning off the car engine and unbuckling his seat belt.
"Yeah I'm serious! You could just take it as I'm showing off at you about my car license. Hurry!", He motioned Hyunjin to take off the seatbelt. Hyunjin didn't know why he obeyed Jisung's words but he didn't really feel like fighting right now.
"You know there's something I had really wanted to do! A VR room! A VR room!", Jisung jumped excitedly, once again pulling Hyunjin by his wrist and the older letting him to do so.
"I think you're going to cry if we go to the VR room though", Hyunjin whispered since he had been into one here. It was fun but that was it.
Just like he had expected, Jisung was screaming a lot once they went there. Unlike the first time he went there, Hyunjin actually had a lot of fun.
Of course, he wouldn't admit easily that he had a lot of fun with Jisung today. Not when he had something to say to Jisung. "Hey..."
Hyunjin was finally ready to talk once they settled down in the middle of the mall, the exact place he was sitting when he first came here.
"Why did you ask Yeji to put me in the show?", Jisung was taken aback, he started laughing awkwardly. He somehow knew where this was going. It was going to the bad path. "I- I thought it would be a good chance if you got a scholarship and-"
"Why?", Once again, Jisung was taken aback when Hyunjin looked at him with a dark face.
"So, you can get rid of me?", Even Hyunjin didn't know where that one came from but he was just too emotional and too angry at the same time. "No...God,no! I would never do that Hyunjin!"
Jisung started to panic, he didn't want Hyunjin to misunderstand him in anyway. If it was him who had made Hyunjin this upset, he didn't know what to but to apologize. "Then what?"
"Isn't it your dream? You want to be a dancer right? I thought it would be nice if you get recognized!", Somehow, this words didn't make it any better.
"Have you ever ask if I wanted to be though?", he already said it once that he didn't want to do it but Jisung still managed to get him in the show.
"I thought you would be happy....", The shorter looked down, staring at his feet.
"Should I be happy about it?", There was nothing to be happy about when he knew what his future will be like. He probably wouldn't be able to achieve his dream because his family wouldn't be allowing him to.
"You aren't?", Jisung didn't believe what Hyunjin had told him because...he saw it before. How radiant, how happy Hyunjin was whenever he danced and whenever he came back from work even though he was always tired. Whenever he saw Hyunjin in that state he would always ask, aren't you tired of your work... isn't difficult? He would always tell Jisung which job in this world is not difficult? Just because it's tiring doesn't mean it's not fun. I'm happy, Jisung.
"What does me being happy or not got to do with this?", Jisung didn't dare to look up. What happened to the moments they had a few minutes ago where they were just having fun? Were Hyunjin just holding himself back?
"You aren't... you're angry", he realized Hyunjin wasn't happy, he wasn't lying.
"Like I said what does it matter to you what I feel? Whether I'm happy or mad what does that matter to you?"
".... you're right. It doesn't"
Hyunjin walked away, Jisung was still hanging his head down. He did wonder if he went to harsh on Jisung since he didn't think he should be that angry but something just steer inside him and he ended up throwing his anger on Jisung. "It doesn't but it's my business!"
"Whether you're happy or not...it doesn't matter but it's my business to care about it or not. So, what does it matter to you that I care about it or not?!"
"Since it's my business! I would leave you alone like you want me too but I will do whatever I want to do!"
He didn't care if he was yelling in the middle of the mall or acting like he was in some melodrama scene because Jisung had finally lost his reasonings.
