Jisung couldn't believe the password had really been Hyunjin's birth date.
He could only ignore the strange feeling and entered the studio along with the boys who sighed in relief when the door was unlocked.
His eyes were sparkling when he saw the studio, everything was placed exactly as he preferred and the music equipment looked expensive and far more advance than the one he had used and played around with before.
Thank goodness he was just going to discuss the concept the group was going for today and the discussion went smoothly.
When the boys bid to see him next time, he relaxed. He looked at the equipment and tried to check it one by one. An hour passed and he finally got it all. It wasn't that difficult since he knew part of the equipment there.
Now that he got all of that in check, he needed to find something.
The number that he remembered by heart was dialled into his phone, as expected his mother's number showed up when he dialled it.
He clicked on the call button, a few seconds in, a ringing tone started before it was picked up. "Hello?"
"Mom?", There was a long silence on the other end before a sob came with a cracked voice, "you finally call home"
He pulled the phone from him and frowned at it. "Mom, of course, I will call you", he laughed because his mother 10 years later sounded too emotional. Maybe because she was old that she's easily touched?
Thinking that he was actually talking to her mother that was nearing 50 excited him a bit, would his mother this year not scold him as much as she used to? "Have you eaten yet?"
His mother sniffed," not yet... I was going to go out and eat with your uncle ", uncle? Jisung raised an eyebrow and recalled if either his father or mother had a brother. From what he knew, his father was an only son and his mother only had two sisters, one younger and one older than her.
"Hrm...is that so? Mom, do you want to eat out with me?", Jisung ignored the strange feeling he had and invited his mother out to eat.
"What about at Sunnyside's dinner. we used to go there before?", His mother asked, her voice sounding really excited that Jisung asked her out to eat. Jisung had no problem as to where they were eating out. He went out of his studio and found his way out
He ran down the road, grabbing a cab, quickly telling the driver to drive them to Sunnyside.
Outside the restaurant, he saw his mother standing eagerly and waving at him when she saw him. Despite 10 years having passed, she seemed to look childish to him even if she had more wrinkles than before and seemed weaker.
"Mom, why did you wait outside? Don't your leg hurts?", Upon hearing his kind voice, mother Han looked at her son, surprised before her gentle smile adorned her face again.
"Your uncle is inside. He saved us a table. I told him I want to wait for you.", She dragged him inside, to a table where a man in his 50 was looking through the menu. When he looked up, he smiled gently at mother Han and smiled wryly at Jisung.
He didn't recognize who this man was but it could be his mother's new friend he didn't know of. He knew how friendly his mother was with everyone.
The old man asked him questions about his work and he answered them all with 'it's going well.' his mother seemed pleased to see him and the old man talking harmoniously.
When his mother excused herself to the toilet, the old man suddenly said. "I have never seen you talk to me this much", Jisung who was cutting the chicken meat looked up, "really?"
"Yeah, your mother also seems so happy", Jisung hummed. He could notice that his mother was smiling so widely at them. If that was what his mother liked then..." we could talk more you know", he said, cutting his meat and putting it into the old man's bowl.
The old man seemed surprised by how he acted. "you also never acted like this ever since I married your mother" Jisung who was previously scooping some soup to drink, dropped his spoon and looked up. He tilted his head and laughed, "huh?" He thought he heard it wrong.
"It's good that you call your mother. You hadn't contacted her in years", he wasn't listening to the old man at all but what he heard correctly was that his mother married this person.
He found the news shocking but he also thought his mother deserved someone to accompany her. He had been wishing she would find someone...not to replace his father but to be with her and take care of her.
Now that such a person came out of nowhere, he didn't know how to react but from what he heard, he hadn't called his mother for years? And that he had been treating this old man badly?
He wasn't someone narrow-minded, he was more than happy that his mother found someone but why had he been ignoring his mother? Was there a reason why he was angry? He couldn't understand what the 29 years old Jisung was thinking.
Why had he ignored his mother and why had he...married Hyunjin. It was very non-logical. None of these was.
Jisung dropped the topic and just nodded at the old man. "Your mother is here", Jisung smiled at the lady before scooping rice into her bowl. If the 29 years old Jisung had been mistreating this couple, he knew he should treat them better. He should treat his mother better.
After lunch, he unexpectedly received a text from someone saved as 'Dr Woo' and remembered in his schedule there was ' appointment with Dr Woo ' written in it.
'are you coming today?', the text was oddly informal for a doctor to a patient. Jisung concluded that this person was a friend he didn't know he made.
Then he remembered something he had been wanting to find out. Yesterday he tried to search on Google things likes 'leaping through time, time travel, waking up in the future' which in theory was possible but beyond current technology. However, there were some cases online where people woke up a few years in the future but it wasn't time leaping. They said they had amnesia.
Jisung was curious if it was possible for him to be in the same situation.
'I have a question to ask. I'm coming'
He went around the hospital until he found Dr Woo's room. Unlike his expectation, Dr Woo was a good looking man in his 30's not an old man with a round body. "You need to go through further inspection but it looks like your brain is trying to protect you from something"'
"something?"
"just like defence mechanism...something provocative must have triggered your brain. That's why your memory from 2020 and 2030 disappeared"Jisung bit his lips, so, he didn't time travel but lost his memory. It sounded logical but stupid at the same time "then...can I recover?" Dr Woo smiled, nodding his head. "of course, it usually doesn't take a long time but your memories will come back slowly." Jisung nodded.
"can I ask if you would tell this to your husband?"Husband. So, it's true that he married that brat. Jisung rose up from his seat with an angry look. "no, way in the world" He sternly said before excusing himself. He bowed at the doctor and walked out. "I lost my memory? It's just like in drama..." He said as he walked out of the hospital.
There was nothing to do but went to his studio and work on music again. He spent almost half of his day there and when he looked at his phone that had many missed calls from Hyunjin he saw that it was already 11 pm. It felt like only 30 minutes had passed because he was too engrossed in making beats and thinking.
He even played some songs he had already created and listened to them in awe. The songs were well made but for some reason, some of them sounded like it wasn't him who made them but well...he wouldn't know since he didn't remember.
He had amnesia and said it felt like he leapt 10 years ahead but now it just felt like he transmigrated into someone else. The lifestyle was too different.
He packed his stuff and walked home, a few feet away from home, he saw someone waiting for him outside the house gate. Then there was him, how did it happen? Him and Hyunjin? That was the most ridiculous thing that had happened actually.
The person he hated actually became someone he did not only tolerate but married? He even had his birthday as his studio password.
What's funny was that he never even thought that he would marry a guy. He was sure of his sexual orientation before and he was clearly straight. Did something change this past 10 years?
On his way back, he grabbed a bottle of wine that he had in his studio and brought it back. He had never drunk before but since he was a full-fledge adult, there wouldn't be anyone holding him back, not even his mother.
Good thing, one bottle was enough for two people. He was planning to get some info from Hyunjin when he got drunk. Why? He saw this method frequently used in dramas and stories. He figured why not apply it in real life situations? Moreover, this already felt like a movie plot.
With that plan in his mind, he walked towards Hyunjin who ran to him. "Why did you come back so late? Was there a lot of work?", Jisung sniffed, the cold air outside was making him cold, so he pushed Hyunjin aside. "I was too engrossed with work", it was odd to not punch or insult Hyunjin while talking like how he used to do but the Hyunjin now wasn't the old Hyunjin, so, he couldn't just curse him.
Hyunjin followed him in, " Engrossed? That's rare", Jisung frowned, Hyunjin was finally starting to sound irritating. He rolled his eyes," of course, it's a profession I like. Of course, it's normal to be engrossed with it."
"Have you eaten dinner.", Jisung hummed. Before coming he ate a few pieces of chicken, so, he didn't need to eat with Hyunjin.
He went upstairs and put his bag on the table before he went to shower, the wine he brought was in the kitchen.
When he came down, he saw Hyunjin picking up the bottle of wine. "I brought it so we can drink together", he pointed at it and took two glasses, one for him and one for Hyunjin.
Hyunjin agreed easily. So, it must be normal for them to drink from time to time. Jisung just wished Hyunjin had a low capacity of alcohol tolerance.
Jisung took the first sip and looked up from his glass to look at Hyunjin. Hyunjin had really grown up. He didn't look as annoying as before and seemed maturer. "Why are you looking at me like that?", Jisung turned his head away when he was caught. "I'm not"
Hyunjin's laughter rang in his ears, he felt Hyunjin's fingers rubbing his hair and tried to avoid his touches. "Don't do that", he took another sip while Hyunjin was already on his second glass.
"You're weird today", Hyunjin plopped his cheek on his palm as he stared at Jisung who was still avoiding his gaze.
Jisung was trying to calm himself. This adult Hyunjin was more dangerous than the young Hyunjin and as a straight man, he was trying not to fall for the seduction and temptation of this demon. He had no problem with homo people but he had a problem with Hyunjin. In his eyes, he was like a devil wearing an angel mask but this wasn't going the way he wanted it to be.
"I'm not", he glared at Hyunjin. "You look more lively", Jisung narrowed his eyes. How was he acting lively? He was acting like his usual self around Hyunjin, with hatred...so, how was this lively? "Reminds me a lot of when we started dating"
Ah, here it came the thing Jisung wanted to know. "When did we start dating again?", Jisung naturally brought up the question and Hyunjin hummed, looking up as if to recall his memories.
"At the end of high school?", End of high school meant it wasn't far off from the time came from- remembered of.
Just a few months before that they were still fighting and hating each other. How could a few months after, they suddenly dated? What kind of non-logical theory was this?
"Hrm... weren't we fighting before that? How did we even...", Hyunjin shrugged. "It's not important since we're still together in the end, right?", Hyunjin took another sip and nonchalantly pour another glass for himself and Jisung who quietly cursed in his heart. Why isn't this motherfucker drunk yet?
"Ji, why did you drink so much?" He asked and Jisung scoffed after finishing the bottle. If it wasn't for Hyunjin not getting drunk, how could he have drunk all of these? It was all his fault. He thought if he could get the man to drink until the last drop, he would finally get Hyunjin drunk but the one getting drunk was him. "What is that to you?! why should I tell you?!" Jisung blabbered.
Jisung's cheeks were rosy red and his eyes were lazily hanging but not closed. Hyunjin sighed and chuckled at Jisung who seemed to go back in time and looked much livelier, like the time they just started.
Hyunjin placed one hand under his knee and another on his back, lifting him up and carrying him to their room. "I hate you" Jisung spat, biting Hyunjin's shoulder as the taller held in his voice, not to let out a voice from the pain.
He put his husband on the bed and caressed Jisung's forehead. "Why are you acting like a kid again? Well, I'm happy to see you this way" Jisung opened his eyes widely, shocking Hyunjin when Jisung suddenly held his hand. "You jerk...!" Jisung said before closing his eyes again, hugging Hyunjin's arm.
With his other hand free from being held, he covered his lips to hold his laughter. It's been 5 years since Jisung lost his liveliness and now he got to see the same boy who used to fight with him. He didn't know if this was a one time only thing or if Jisung had returned to the way he was but he felt like he was falling for Jisung all over again.
He slept beside Jisung as the squirrel-like boy wouldn't let him go. In the middle of the night, Jisung woke up due to feeling hot. He pushed his blanket off and turned around, only to hold his breath when his face meet Hyunjin's face. He widened his eyes, "what is he doing here?" He thought as he retreated from the bed, crawling out as he went out from the room. He went into the kitchen, took out a bottle of water, and drinking it while he leaned against the kitchen counter.
He walked towards the TV, turning it on not caring it was 3 in the morning as he browsed through Netflix. Everything was there even some avengers movies he hadn't seen before. He went back to the kitchen counter, climbing up before sitting on it. He took out a pack of cereal, eating it without any milk. "Hyunjin would scold me again for doing this..." He said while shoving cereals into his mouth when the realization hit him. "Why would I even care if he scolds me?" Then, he remembered something that wasn't in his memory before...at least not the one in 2020.
"Jisung...take care of your family if you build one one day..." It was his mother. Jisung stopped eating, he completely ignored the show on the TV as he hugged his knees and started crying. It was a memory that he didn't remember before and knowing there was more to it that he didn't remember frustrated him.It had been a since he woke up here. It would have been better if it was him time travelling but he didn't. He was ill. He didn't remember anything. He didn't remember the moment he graduated, the moment he turned 20, the moment he entered university, how he became a song producer and how he ended up marrying Hyunjin. 10 years of his life was stolen from him and it felt bad. It felt bad not knowing himself. He had to live for the thing he didn't remember. "I must live with Hyunjin too..." He muttered when he remembered Felix telling him, "Hyunjin is not that bad..."
Jisung looked up , staring at the room upstairs. It was true, Hwang Hyunjin had been bearable but that was because he hadn't seen him a lot and because the Jisung before he forgot his memories mist had gone through something with Hyunjin but he was no longer that Jisung.
He had been nothing but sweet. He would cook for him, wait for him to come home and even drink with him. It was something the old Hyunjin he knew wouldn't do for him. It was uncomfortable as it was to marry a guy but what's funnier was that he couldn't do anything because in the end..."I married him"
He wondered if he had gone crazy. Just this morning, he was up and high but now he was so down he felt like he could be buried alive.
