The moment he saw Hyunjin about to get hit by a car, his body moved on it own as if it had a mind of itself. He cursed, if his mother knew or any of his friends knew what he was doing now...they would definitely tell him that he was insane— out of his mind and crazy.
In the midst of the boisterousness, he made eye contact with Hyunjin. He laughed at himself. He really had went totally nut case, didn't he? How could he smiled and laughed when he saw the terror in Hyunjin's eyes.
The moment his body was hit by full impact and dropped onto the floor, he knew he couldn't keep his promise to Hyunjin.
"Jisung!", It felt nice when Hyunjin called him. It felt nice when Hyunjin held his hand. It hurt, the blood oozing out wasn't fake and the pain he felt was enough to tell him that he was still living but soon he wouldn't be able to keep his eyes open anymore.
Was this what that person meant when she said Jisung had to hurry? Was this the payment he had to give in return of finding happiness? It was just a simple wish wasn't it? To prove that he won't ever be happy if he was to be with Hyunjin. Oh, well. He couldn't prove it.
"I'm sorry", Jisung moved his finger even though he was feeling numb. He couldn't help but cry.
He didn't know how long he survived in that condition but he knew he could still hear Hyunjin's voice when he was carried into the ambulance. "Jisung..."
Jisung moved his fingertip again, he slightly opened his eyes and breathily said, "In the end, I couldn't keep any of the promises I made" I wish...I could be honest with you. He wanted to say more but his energy was dissipating faster than he thought it would.
The corner of his eyes reddened, Hyunjin's tear flowing down at the same time as Jisung did. If Jisung could, he wanted to wipe his tears now because the tears had blurred his vision. He couldn't see Hyunjin's face but maybe it was for the better. He also didn't want to see the pain in Hyunjin's eyes. I couldn't give you the clarity you needed.
"Jisung, you will be fine."
I don't want to be a liar anymore.
"They're bringing you to the hospital"
I hope he won't lie to himself too.
"You have to stay conscious, alright?"
Jisung was incurring ridicule to himself. Wasn't it him who had promised Hyunjin he would not hurt him? What's this then? Hyunjin was crying with him. Wasn't it him who had promised Hyunjin he would tell everything to him? Tell what? He couldn't even lift a finger moreover open his mouth to speak.
If this wasn't incurring ridicule to oneself, what was?
"Promise me...", Jisung swallowed his saliva and hummed. "What?"
"You told me you won't hurt me anymore. I don't need that promise...", He pushed himself up. "Just promise me you won't lost conscious in front of me again", Jisung looked down at his hand before taking Hyunjin's hand into his, linking their pinky fingers together. "Whoever tells lie will sink to the bad places", he said, smiling but not really smiling at Hyunjin.
"Don't make such oath", Jisung shook his head. "I want you to trust me too. I really won't do that again! I promise!"
Jisung bit his lips and shut his eyes. He was a really bad liar. Out of those three promises, which one of it did he at least fulfilled?

Jisung was sent to the emergency room and he was brought into the surgery room. HanMi was brought to the police station along with few other people who was suspected to be involved. Hyunjin brushed his hair back, he didn't know HanMi had an accomplice. It could have been the person who ran into him but he didn't have the right mind to think about it now.
He couldn't help much with the investigation now with his state of mind. So, they just let him went to the hospital with Jisung first.
It was long hours of waiting outside the surgery room. He bit his fingers, a habit he once told Jisung to fix. How could he remain calm?
The doctor in charge finally walked out and Hyunjin had his hopes up only to be let down by the gloomy face of the doctor's. "I'm sorry for your-", Hyunjin felt his whole world had crumbled. He no longer listen to the doctor's voice and ran into the surgery room despite he was told not to rush in.
"Jisung!", He dropped into his knees when he saw Jisung's lifeless body. He wanted to be mad at Jisung. "Did I ask you to save my life?!", He angrily asked. All this time, Jisung kept throwing himself around just for Hyunjin. He was mad that he couldn't protect Jisung.
The nurse and staff didn't dare to approach Hyunjin as he brawled his eyes out. "Please wake up...please"
Soon after when Hyunjin finally calmed down, Felix came and the other friends who had heard about the accident. "Hyunjin...", Felix slowly approached him, tapping him on his back.
"Jisung...", Hyunjin slowly said...he didn't dare to say what he had done. He looked at his feet, shameful. "He...I..."
Chan shook his head. "It's not your fault, Hyunjin", they knew Hyunjin would end up blaming himself if anything happened to Jisung because Jisung was also like that. They were so similar to each other and Chan had to fix that. He knew Jisung wouldn't want Hyunjin to blame himself for this.
The one who crumbled down next was Jeongin. He was just on call with Jisung a few hours ago. So, how did this happened? "Hyung... he's alive, right?" Hyunjin just bowed his head down. The others were yet to see Jisung's body.
Hyunjin grabbed a handful of his hair and sobbed. "He promised he won't even do that again" this time not only he fell in front of Hyunjin, his heart even stopped for him.
The person who had calmed down suddenly bursted out again, wailing in vain. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry."

The funeral was held one day after the burial, everyone was grieving but the one who had it bad was Hyunjin and Jisung's mother.
It was too...sudden.
Hyunjin just kneeled in front of Jisung's photograph and stated onto the picture, not saying anything, the corner of his eyes red but there was no emotion in it. He was tired out by crying.
Someone approached him, kneeling next to him and bowing at Jisung's picture. "Hyung...", He looked at Minho, the older just smiling bitterly at him.
Minho used to be close with Jisung but after he went for military service, the both of them lost contact for a while and when Minho was released, Jisung went for the military service. Minho said nothing and just patted his back and later he accompanied Hyunjin.
"Here", Minho gave him a cup of water. "Water?", Hyunjin frowned and Minho ruffled his hair, Hyunjin's eyes brimming a bit when he remembered Jisung ruffling his hair in return if he patted Jisung's hair. "You shouldn't get to drunk...", Minho observed the people who had come for the funeral. There were some people he didn't know of and there wasn't a lot of them since this was made last minute. Jisung died yesterday and his funeral was held today. Bunch of them were drinking like crazy and some of them was crying badly. This showed how much of a loved person Jisung was.
"It's not fair...", Hyunjin gritted his teeth. "Why must a good person like Jisung...", He choked on his tears. He was overwhelmed. Truly overwhelmed and he was even mad when he saw some of the police officers intruding the funeral to ask him for some words. Couldn't they wait for later? Why must they come and rudely interrupt the funeral?
However, he didn't really have any sort of power to refuse them. He had to obediently answer them because he wanted to uphold justice for Jisung.
All he ever did was just trying to protect people he loved and in return he had to pay with his life. "Do you know the person who had run into your husband?", He nodded. It would be ridiculous not to know such outrageous person.
"She insist your husband run into her with her car.", Hyunjin shook his head this time. "It was a huge accident. I'm sure you have investigated about the accident she mentioned before talking to me", the officer nodded his head. He had indeed looked into it before he approached Hyunjin.
In fact, he clearly knew who was in the wrong. He only needed confirmation to punish her lawfully.
"If there's nothing. Can I go back now?", Hyunjin tiredly said. He had been talking to the officer for a long time and someone needed to help cleaning up the funeral.
When he arrived, many those who CE had already returned. The one who left was some of his friends. Even his in-laws and his family had returned.
Before his family left, they stared at him pitifully and left quietly when they saw there was no way to comfort him. It wasn't only Hyunjin who hadn't believed Jisung left like that. Everyone was devastated. The person who shone brightly suddenly disappeared like that.
They wouldn't know how much pain Hyunjin felt right now. If Jisung was a light, then Hyunjin's life must be completely dark now.
It's true. Hyunjin couldn't see the future this time. He wouldn't know what to do and wouldn't know how he should live his life without Jisung.
In the end, he couldn't hear Jisung's explanation even if he already knew all about it. He knew what Jisung had been up to but what for? He had only wanted to persuade HanMi to stop her harassment but it turned out like this.
He bit his finger again, this time he was alone and nobody was around anymore. There wasn't much to clean anyway, he finsihed it sooner and sat in front of Jisung's photography. He sighed, he felt worthless.
Thinking that Jisung would be sad at seeing his state now, he tried to calm himself again. It's been 3 days and he hadn't got a good sleep. Just yesterday, he didn't sleep at all.
—rumble
Just then there was a loud clap of thunder coming from the sky and rain started pouring. It felt like even the sky was sad for Hyunjin and Jisung. If one wanted to summarise their love story, it would be a tragic romance.
Hyunjin laughed at himself, brushing his hair back that had fallen to his face. It was truly a tragedy.
To be separated by the farthest distance— life and death.
The thunderclap didn't scare Hyunjin, instead it had comforted him more than the condolences he received. He slowly shut his eyes, his body slowly shutting down from all the energy he had used up. Not sleeping for a day was fine but not sleeping for a day then having rough night for two days wasn't alright.
It's only normal for him to finally sleep like a baby but he couldn't be bothered to go home first. What's the use of sleeping at home when he knew Jisung wouldn't be there?
At least, he could be comforted by thinking Jisung's spirit might be around here in the funeral and lied down in front of Jisung's memorial picture. Even until the last moment, he won't ever let Jisung be alone and wondered if death was lonely.
He hummed a song Jisung loved to sing and fell asleep. The sound of thunderclap continuosly shaken the whole city but only Hyunjin remained peaceful and calm in his sleep— like a baby cradled in his mother's arm.
He believed there will be a better day for tomorrow.
-The end-
