Jisung waved at Hyunjin who was standing next to the old man who had a stern face and glaring at them as if he was about to chew them off. He turned his head away, clearing his throat as he waved at Jisung. Jisung laughed when he entered Hyunjin's car. The old man pretended to be mad but he wasn't. He was hiding the fact that he just wanted them to go to the villa since it would be a waste if it was left alone and that his effort to make the house for them was appreciated.
He called Felix, using handsfree earphones but it went right into the voicemail. His tongue rolled inside the wall of his mouth in annoyance. Finding no more room to waste time he called Chan whom he knew would answer quickly. The phone rang about 3 times before Chan finally picked up at the 4th ring. "Hello?", Chan's voice was clear and loud, hearing it after a while not meeting him showered him with a sense of relief.
"Do you know where Felix is?", Jisung found it easier to be more straightforward now that he wasn't restricted to do things behind Hyunjin's back. Before he was worried if he said anything weird to Chan, he will tell Hyunjin about it but now there was no need for that. He wasn't planning to hide everything from Hyunjin but it was better to unveil things slowly. Chan stayed mum for the longest of time, Jisung was getting impatient with this silent treatment. Chan wasn't sure what to say to Jisung. The words seemed to be stuck in his throat as he didn't know whether saying anything to Jisung at all will bring bad result or not since he didn't know what Jisung was planning to do.
Jisung shut his eyes for a solid 1 minute, hitting the joint of his wrist against the stirring before asking a different question. "Nevermind that question. Just be honest with me..."
"Can I trust you?", Jisung had unexpectedly asked. "Are you driving now?", Chan asked instead of answering Jisung when he heard the sound of car honking. Jisung glanced at the rear mirror, turning the wheel to the left when he saw the red light had turned green. He turned the steering again, making sure the car was driving in the right lane. Chan knew that Jisung had an accident recently and he also knew that Hyunjin didn't let Jisung to drive. So, he was perplexed when Jisung was driving again because Hyunjin wouldn't let him do that unless Jisung was fine again. "You're not trembling when you drive again?", trembling? Jisung scoffed. He did tell Chan he was to nervous to drive as a lie. He also lied to Hyunjin about it. He didn't dare to tell them that he saw something illogical in the middle of him driving.
He should consider telling that to Hyunjin now that he had no intention to lie to him. Well...keeping some things hidden from him wasn't lying. Jisung groaned, he only dared to drive this time because he had confirmed his theory with Hyunjin before he went off.
He told Hyunjin to quickly snap him out of it as soon as possible when he started dazing away again. He ignored Chan's question just as Chan did to him previously and continued their aswering question with another question session again. " Answer me. Can I trust you, Hyung ?", This time it sounded more like a plead rather than a question and Chan had to answer despite not knowing of what context Jisung was asking him. "I'm not sure what you mean Jisung but I know you can trust me".
"Then can you be sure that you're not hiding something from me too?", There was a moment of silence that Jisung had despised so much and he knew by then...everyone was trying to keep in the dark. "Just pretend I didn't ask"
"...but if you really want me to believe that I can trust you. Can't you please tell me where Felix is?", This was the last chance he was giving to chance. He gave Chan the benefit of the doubt to him before but this time he won't hold back. It didn't really matter what Chan's answer was because in the end, he would still go find Felix even if nobody told him where he was. He just wanted to test Chan.
He stopped his car by the roadside and ended the phone call after Chan answered him with a weak 'sorry'. Jisung was dissapointed that Chan was a coward. He didn't know why Chan was hiding Felix from him and no matter how much he called the person he deemed as a brother, Felix he won't answer the phone call.
He gripped the steering tightly, his hand clenched around it befoe he took of his shade, taking out his phone out and turning the phone around sos now he was facing the camera lense. He opened his eyes slowly to stare at the flashed light of his phone and his breaath went rigid once again just like when he confirmed his theory but this time, there was no Hyunjin to snap him out of his trance and no Hyunjin to calm him down.
Few memories falshed in his mind and tears were pouring from his eyes. It was too much to take in one go. To face all of these alone was much scarier and difficult than he thought it would be.
"Jisung stay calm. Listen to me... take a deep breath and call the ambulance", The familiar concerned and warm voice of Felix's echoed in Jisung's ears as he trembed in fear, trying to get out from the car as he slowly crawled out. In front of him was a lot and a lot of blood. In his hand there was blood and beside Felix's voice there were echoes of screaming and crying. People calling for help and Jisung gave up on contacting the ambulance. By now someone would definitely have called the hospital. The image of Hyunjin calling out to him flashed in his mind.
Felix's voice had faded away, he also didn't know when he had disconnected the phone call and all he could thin ka bout was Hyunjin. The thought of Hyunjin seeing him in this state and the thought of Hyunjin soothing him...he missed Hyunjin and he was extremly terrified of this situation.
Jisung sucked the air through his teeth as another memory seeped into his mind, flashing in his eyes.
"HanMi, I don't think we could do this anymore...", Jisung kneeled in front of the woman, his head lowered. "I'm sorry..." He said pitifully.
"I really am...I didn't mean to", He sniffled and the lady stared at him"" in confusion. There were times when Jisung would look at her with sad eyes but she alwasy shrugged it off but this time she was really taken aback by Jisung. "What do you mean?", She shook her head. "Is it Hyunjin? He doesn't like you meeting me?"
"Tell me...does he?", Jisung shook his head in denial, sobbing harder and begging HanMi to let him go. "I'm sorry, I sinned"
HanMi sighed, "Felix is coming back in a month. Lets go to the beach with him when he's in Seoul", she said, tapping Jisung's shoulder to stop him from kneeling. "Hyunjin still doesn't know?", he shook her head and HanMi frowned. " I don't understand why you need to hide about me..."
Jisung bit his lips, he was fighting with himself to come back to the reality and who knew inflicting pain on himself would really bring him back to his sense. His shoulder slumped, so, in the end it was true that Felix was hiding it from him...something...maybe the accident.
What accident? He was so afarid when he saw the shard of memory playing like it was happening right in front of him. Blood...screams...him injured and most importanly the blue dress newly covered with the colour of deep red-- the colour of agony.
He didn't know if the lady survived but the fact that she was right in front of his car had created thousands of speculation in his little mind and he had rather not know what happened after that. There was another question-- what was the relation between Felix and this girl named HanMi? Why did she knew about Felix and most importantly she mentioned Hyunjin forbiding them to meet.
It might made sense since Hyunjin let Jisung do anything he liked...even meetiing someone behind his back but it didn't make sense because Hyunjin genuinely didn't know of the existence of HanMi.
So far everyonoe had been hiding something from him. He didn't know which he should believe and which he shouldn't. Jisung went thtough his texts and list of missed calls, there were some from an unkown number and another from a number that seemed like an office number.
He called the office number, his heart thumoing when he heard a foreign voice picking up the phone call. "Hello?".
"Hello...may I ask why this number called me a few times before?", he finally asked and the other line immediately recognized his voice. "ah! Mr.Jisung!", Jisung hummed. He tried to be careful since he didn't know what this whole thing was about. "Patient Juyeong was in critical condition last night. We called you last night because we couldn't contact her guardian." Jisung swallowed his saliva. " Which Hospital are you at again?"
--
Hyunjin had a bad feeling regarding Jisung. He didn't even care his grandfather was yapping at him. As the feeling of restlessness grew he had to beg his grandfather to let him go for the day, also asking him for his car.
Maybe he was being paranoid that he felt he needed to follow Jisung wherever he was but when he remembered Jisung telling him to put his trust on him, he stopped at his track. No matter how much his brain was telling him to move towards the car, his rationality was holding him back and he didn't budge once from his standing because he had put Jisung's words close to his heart. He gripped the car key tightly and turned around while nodding his head at particularly nothing, putting back on the straw hat to cover himself from the sun. "Trust...I need to trust him", He walked back to the farm, slapping the car key into the old man's hand.
"Have you finally lost your will to live?", The old man asked, narrowing his eyes at the car key and then glaring at the young lad whom he had shared his blood with, examining how weird he was acting right now. " You aren't going after Jisung?", Hyunjin plucked out a strawberry. rubbing it a few times before stuffing it into the old man's mouth. "Is it sour?", he asked nonchalantly. The old man slapped his hand away, obviously pissed by his grandson but he bit off the strawberry anyway. "go back to work", he merely said. Ah, what to do? as much as pissed he was at Hyunjin, everyone knew he loved his grandson so much. "this kid is nut...", The old man whispered.
Hyunjin easily agreed with that statement. He was indeed a bit crazy now. If he was sane how would he let Jisung go alone when he had a bad feeling ? When he was almost sure something bad was going to happen ? Well...who was he to say no to Jisung when he said to wait ? If it's Jisung, he was willing to wait for eternity. Against that...there was still a part of him that couldn't hold himself from sending a messege to Jisung. 'You're alright, right ?'
"Hyunjin! There's someone looking for you!", He snapped his head towards his mother's voice. When he arrived at te door step, he halted as he saw the familiar back. He calmly walked towards the figure, approaching him as if it hadn't been years since he last saw this person. "Hey", He said, his friend turning around, displaayinng a bright grin when he saw Hyunjin. "Felix".
