"You look like a stupid squirrel"
-"in my defense squirrels are cute and you look like a dumb fucker" Jisung spat to the taller guy as he walked out from principal room for causing a food fight in the cafeteria by throwing a tray of food at Hyunjin. "Well, at least I'm not the one failing chemistry" Hyunjin fought back, fixing his schoolbag over his shoulder before marching to the school exit while Jisung stomped his feet, cursing Hyunjin when someone tapped his shoulder. He turned around spotting an all smiley Felix who was giving him a pair of thumbs up. "Good job for the food fight by the way! It was so fu-" Jisung rolled his eyes, walking away from Felix as the Australian followed him, laughing at his best friend. "It's all that dumb fucker's fault"
Felix rolled his eyes, taking out the end of his tucked-in-shirt. It had always been Hwang Hyunjin's fault, when was it ever Jisung's fault? "Why do you even hate him? He seems fine to me" jisung let out a loud groan, pulling his hair for his friend not understanding him. He pointed at the gate where Hyunjin had walked out from," that guy? Seems fine? To you but not to me. " He scoffed as he listed out the reasons he hated Hyunjin.
"In 7th grade, he stole my seat because I came late to school. Do you remember he was absent the first week of school cause he was down with a stupid fever and when he return to school, he just stole my fucking seat and I had to sit at the back with some kid who kept picking his nose!" Jisung flailed his hand around, explaining just how frustrated he was. He stopped walking, pointing at Felix while widening his eyes. " and do you remember the letter? " Felix tilted his head, letter? "What letter?"
"How could you not remember? He read my lyric book and everyone thought it was a love letter for him!" Felix clapped his hand as a hysterical laughter came out from his mouth. He nodded his head, caressing his tears from his eyes. "Oh my god, that was literally gold! Everyone thought you like his for like a whole 2 years until you punched him in the face"
"Just thinking about him makes every cell in my body boil in anger", Jisung hissed as Felix threw his hand over Jisung's shoulder, chuckling. " all right, I get it. Hwang Hyunjin makes you angry so... Why don't we go hangout at Chan's place tonight? He just got his driving license, and that's a thing to celebrate!" Felix cheered, pulling his low-spirited friend to his house.
"Hi, Mrs.Han" Felix smiled, waving at Jisung's mother. "Can we stay at Chan's place tonight?" Felix asked, not bothering he had got no approval from Jisung. "Oh, sure, Darling. Just no drinking" She replied, getting back to writing reviews on a book she just bought. She worked as a book critic and it was a perfect job for her book worm self. Felix beamed brightly, dragging Jisung's upstairs to grab his thing before going to Chan's house.
By the time they arrived, two people was already there, one was Minho while one was being the annoying Hwang Hyunjin."why is he here?" He whispered to Felix who had reminded him Hyunjin was also in their circle of friends. Jisung walked in, smiling at Chan but completely ignoring Hyunjin's presence. It was for the best, he knew he would end up fighting with Hyunjin if he open his mouth. "When the others come why don't we play spin the bottle?" Felix suggested, sitting down on the piles of pillows after nonchalantly taking a bottle of coke from Chan's fridge like it was his house. Jisung shrugged his shoulder while Hyunjin shook his head. "Nah, can't we just watch some movies or dramas ?" Felix rubbed his nape, thinking since he had also wanted to watch some cartoons. On the other hand, Jisung was rolling his eyes so hard that they almost stuck at the back of his head. "What? you chicken? It's just some truth or dare game"
Hyunjin balled his fist, gritting his teeth as he glared at Jisung. However, before he could fight back, a voice interrupted them "Chicken? who said chicken? I brought some chicken and pizzas!" Minho said as he entered the living room, Chan raising his eyebrow to how the younger knew his house pass code. Minho winked at Chan "It's my birthday, how sweet of you" Minho said as he sat down next to Chan with the others joining them, flocking around Chan's small coffee table. It wasn't a secret that Chan and Minho was a thing. The both of them had come out a long time ago and started dating for about a month. "So, want to eat while we play?" Felix asked as Jisung scoffed. "How? this light pole here is too chickened out to play" Hyunjin raised his eyebrow, "Who said I'm scared. Let's play if you want to play." Jisung shrugged, looking as bored as he can be. It wasn't his lost. The others just shook their heads at the both of them.
The game started with Felix spinning the bottle since he was the one who had suggested the game and the mouth of the bottle end up pointing at Chan who easily chose dare. Felix had a stupid grin on his face as he pointed at Minho "Hold Minho hyung's hand until the end of the game " Chan rolled his eyes, followed by some disappointed boos from his friends. "Isn't that way too easy, Lix?" Minho asked, taking Chan's hand in his. Felix pouted at the boos. "It's only the beginning! a warm up you know!?" He said, offended by his friends' reaction when Chan spun the bottle and it ended up at Jeongin, the innocent-looking boy. "Truth" He said, taking a huge bite from the drumstick. Chan rubbed is chin before an idea popped out " Do you love your hyungs?" It was yet another harmless question. Jeongin immediately answer "I love you guys when you don't act dumb" Hyunjin gasped. "but we always act dumb" Jeongin bobbed his head.
The game slowly became heated when it landed on Changbin. His dare was to kiss a person in the room. It wasn't specify where, so, he kneeled down in front of Felix who was panicking and planted a peck on his cheek which turned the younger as red as he can be. It was funny with Seungmin telling them he had once entered the girl's bathroom when he was 7 and nobody suspected him as a boy and thought he was just a boyish girl. There was even Jisung knocking Chan's neighbour door and started singing the nation anthem when the neighbour opened the door. Yes, it was all fun and game until Minho spun the bottle and it landed on Jisung. "Truth since I chose dare just now"
Minho grinned slyly. "Would you marry Hyunjin if you push aside the fact that he read you lyric book aloud?" Jisung's expression was hilarious and so was Hyunjin's. The both of them almost chocked on air. Jisung pointed at Hyunjin and the back at himself. Minho nodded. "OVER MY DEAD BODY" He screeched, looking at Hyunjin in disgust. Suddenly, the game wasn't the focus anymore. "Why? Hyunjin is not a bad person and him reading it out loud was a mistake. You left it in the radio room and even forgot to turn off the mic. So, it was your fault." Seungmin stated.
Jisung shook his head. "like I said...no! He's a guy plus he is just hateful! can't you see the demon he is? He is faking his kindness!" Hyunjin balled his fist, standing up to grab Jisung's collar but was stopped by Chan. "see! he is trying to hit me! Even if he is the last specimen on earth, I would never touch him!" Jisung yelled, Chan slamming his hands on the table. "The both of you sit down!" Jisung frowned, picking his things as he marched towards the door. "I'm not hanging out with you if he is here!"
--- Slam!
He slammed the door close and Minho sent an apologetic look to everyone for ruining the party. All of them shook their head as Hyunjin drowned himself with drinking glasses and glasses of coke. "I will sleep first..." Hyunjin said weakly, going into one of Chan's guest room.
Jisung was kicking some stones on the way back home while mumbling to himself. "Why would I ever get married to him? Liking him is already hard for me" He said when he ran into an old lady who was carrying a bundle of stuff. He apologized and started picking her bundle up. The old lady smiled, patting his head for his kindness. He bowed, ready to walk away when the old lady stopped him. "You have bad energy surrounding you..." Jisung had a bad feeling of this. He had heard stories from Jeongin and heard a bit from Hyunjin of how they were almost kidnapped into a cult.
"You had a fight with your friends?" Jisung blinked in confusion. If this really was a scam, she wouldn't' know that much. "something about marriage...?" She asked and Jisung immediately took a few steps back. "why is marriage making you angry?" She asked. "i'm not angry about marriage. I just think it's ridiculous that my friend asked me if I would marry someone I don't like." The old lady nodded her head while Jisung was wondering why he had told the old lady everything. "you're confused, I see..." Jisung shook his head. Why would he be confused? "here, to cheer you up " The old lady said, handing him a piece of candy before walking away.
Jisung stared at the candy in his hand and shrugged before unwrapping it. It wasn't suspicious since he had always eaten this candy. He covered his head when it started raining heavily. When he arrived home, his mother was sleeping in the living room, sitting as she lied her head on the table with her laptop. He sighed and went up to change into a dry outfit before carrying her to her room.. She tucked her into her bed and kissed her forehead once he pulled the cover up. His mother was the only thing he had ever have and he could not risk losing her after his father's death.
"Sleep tight, mom" He said, closing the door, walking to his room and tucking himself into the bed. The rain didn't stop. It worsen overnight but weirdly, Jisung slept well. He dreamt of his family, back when his father was still alive. He was smiling until the lightning struck and his father suddenly disappeared from the frame. He started whimpering in his sleep, calling his father's name when he felt a pair of warm hands hugging him and he fell back to sleep. "shh...sungie. I'm here"
*
Jisung snapped his eyes opened, grimacing as he held his head. " what in the world happened?" He said as pressed his palm on his forehead, trying to get rid of his headache. The pain didn't go away but he ignored it.
When he walked downstairs, his mother gave him a knowing glance. "You have a fever?" She asked, Jisung frowned. He didn't think he was sick. He was just fine the night before. "I'm not. Just because I ran in the rain doesn't mean I will suddenly catch a dumb fever, mom"
"Language, Ji. I'm just worried...it seems like you're hurting" his mother voiced. Jisung groaned, rolling his eyes before grabbing a pack of biscuit. "I'm not eating breakfast today. I'm running late" he said and hugged his mother before running out to get his bicycle.
His mother shook her head, she knew her instinct. Jisung wouldn't just wake up with huge eyebags and a snappy attitude. Jisung was always a bright and cheerful kid. If Jisung wasn't sick, then it must had been something else.
Jisung wished he could answer his mother but he also didn't know what was wrong with him. His head was aching in pain, it felt like someone was trying to rip his head apart.
"Ji? Jisung? Hello? Earth to Jisung" jisung snapped from his daydream and looked at Felix who was giving him a concerned look. He tapped Jisung's shoulder. "You alright?" But Jisung couldn't quite hear him, it sounded like he was underwater.
He waved the weird feeling away and smiled weakly at Felix before walking into he building. He didn't greet the students nor teachers like he usually did which sent him a few concerned look. Jisung might be one of the school troublemaker but people loved him. He was naturally good natured. Just that, Hyunjin failed to see that in him of course because he was acting like a total bitch around Hyunjin almost 24/7.
"Hey, are you sure you're alright?" Jisung rolled his eyes, "I'm fine!" He snapped at Felix and walked to his class, slamming the door open and went to sit on his seat. He buried his head on his folded hand, the whole class looking at him, confused.
Soon, Felix came in, an uncomfortableness expression on his face as he walked to Jisung but failed to approach him when a teacher came in. "Jisung, talk later, alright?" He whispered.
Jisung didn't wait for Felix like his best friend thought he would. Jisung just ran out as soon as lunch bell rang. "Why does my head hurt so fucking much?" Jisung hissed, whispering to himself when he entered the restroom. He straightened his back, glaring at the newfound enemy inside the secluded room. "Hwang Hyunjin" he hissed the name under his breath as if it was a curse word.
"I'm not talking to you or whatever" Hyunjin said, walking out and purposely bumping his shoulder against Jisung's. Jisung huffed, he opened a door and sat on the toilet seat. He covered his face and shut his eyes close. Why out of all day he decided to have a headache on that day when he was already moody in the first place? It's like when girls had a break up and the very next day their period came.
"What the fuck is a Hwang even?" He spat. Everybody said he was hating Hyunjin for no reason but Hyunjin was just the same. The only difference was, he knew how to hide it from their friends! Hyunjin treated him just as much as he did.
And it wasn't Jisung who started this stupid rivalry. It wasn't him that wanted to show who was the best out of the best in the first place. It was Hyunjin! But no! His friends just had to side with Hyunjin all the fucking time!
Jisung wanted to be friends with Hyunjin but it was Hyunjin who had coldly brushed him aside. He didn't see just where was this 'kind and good natured' guy his friends convinced him to be.
-Knock! Knock!
"Excuse me...I know this is rude but are you done yet? I'm having a bit difficulty here" Jisung lifted his head and flushed the toilet although he didn't use it. "Ah, sorry." Jisung said as he went out, smiling at who he realized as one of the juniors.
Jisung walked out from the restroom. He didn't know why he went there in the first place. The toilet was nasty and stinky. It was obvious that it wouldn't help him nor his headache.
