"We could talk about the other details over a hot meal," Darcy paused and eyed Zoe from head to toe. His expression was passive, but she knew he was criticizing her sense of fashion--big time. "And it would be best if you change into something... not so bright."

"I know," she said, shifting in her position. "But just to let you know, I'm only changing clothes to avoid attention, but pink is not a horrible fashion!" She crossed her arms and turned to the vast sea of clouds while listening to Darcy's satisfied chuckle.

"If you say so. I guess we could go inside--"

"Wait!" she shouted and the four teenagers were taken aback. She turned to Darcy and for once, her face crawled with concern. "We need to talk."

The young bodyguard nodded at the three. They exchanged glances and looked from Zoe to Darcy and came up with a decision. Nox was the first one to leave, disappearing inside the wooden door.

Krista put back her hood and began following him, an irritated whisper escaped her lips, "I need to wear a gas mask."

"Are you sick?" Ty asked, chewing his bow as he walked behind her.

"Idiot! Can't you smell the love in the air?"

The sharp shooter's laugh echoed within the halls, slowly fading with every tick of the clock.

The wooden door was left ajar and after moments of peeking, Zoe was convinced that no one was listening. She faced Darcy and asked, "We're still on Earth, right?"

She knew the answer, yet she needed to reassure herself.

"You're smarter than that." He circled the main mast, running his fingers on the rough rope embracing it, the hem of his black suit beat with every whip of the wind.

Zoe sat on the small barrel, engulfing the pleasant and refreshing night breeze. "I just want to hear it. I just need--"

"We are in Mamoria."

Her heart hammered, as though his every word hit her like a boxer. She was right, yet it didn't scare her. A broad grin broke into her lips and a flutter of butterflies filled her inside. The adventure she had been waiting was finally here. She wanted to go wild and celebrate, however, a thought pulled her to reality.

"But I need to go back, for now, it's Catalina's birthday."

Zoe watched him lean on the mast and toyed the dangling rope as his foot lay flat on the wooden pole. Their eyes wouldn't meet for his was wandering at the distance, a pair of gold faintly glowing with pride, courage, and hesitance.

"You can't go back."

"Excuse me?!" she shot on her feet.

Before Zoe could ask another question a loud sound thundered from below decks, causing them to drop on the ground. The ship tilted to the side as a huge creature emerged from the clouds behind her. The ship groaned together with the deep wail of the humongous being.

Darcy was able to grab on the mast, but Zoe slid towards the other side, shrieking at the top of her lungs. She hit the rails with a bang and a sharp pain coursed through her shoulder and hip.

She looked to where she came from and gasped at the sight of the heavy barrel ready to squash her. In split seconds, she rolled out of the rails, taking a hold as she moved away from the path of the barrel. Her eyes followed it bounce off and disappeared beneath the pool of clouds.

The ship kept turning until the whole vessel was upside down, bringing her feet to dangle in the air.

"Zoe!"

She turned at the sound of Darcy's voice and saw the young man free fall in her direction. His hand flashed a golden light and a huge summoning ring encircled his wrist. It moved to his fingers and a black surfing board appeared on his hand. He shoved it beneath his feet and stepped on the accelerator, red flames burst on its rear.

Her arms shook from the effort of pulling her weight, never had she thought that she was this heavy. Still, she reached with her right hand, feeling the cold sweat behind her neck.

Her grip gave in.

And the distance between them grew faster than the wind.
