Part Ten - Meet the Rescuers

Hail shot up into a sitting position, screaming. Her voice was cut off by her own dizziness from sitting up too fast. Vision, blurry, her shoulders were grabbed onto harshly, a loud sound in her ears. Hail snapped out of it, being faced with two very tall men with abnormally large black eyes, and a purple mark under their left eye, her hearing felt like she was underwater her hearing faded and far away.

"Ahhh...?" Hail trailed off trying to make sense as to what she saw and what was around her now. She inspected the room quickly, recognizing it as a small hospital room. Hail sat on a cot with wires attached to her in various places.

Her hearing and senses came back in full force as she registered the man's voice holding her shoulders, "it was just a dream, calm down!"

Hail stared blankly at the man with long blonde hair in a fishtail braid, then to the other equally tall man with grey hair that was in a complicated bun on the top of his head. The man looked old, hunched over a clipboard and writing with a strange looking pen.

Hail quickly looked at her state, realizing that she wasn't feeling any pain at all. She looked at her arms and almost melted in relief seeing the black and purple horror that had engulfed the entirety of her arms has gone.

"Who..?" Hail was cut off by a heavy, airy voice from the grey haired oldish man, "Welcome back to the living my dear. Would you like something to eat?"

Deciding on the fact they didn't kill her yet, she responded, "er...yes please..." Hail was wary around these people -- not intimidated, just suspicious.

"Reed," the older man inquired, not looking up from what he was writing.

"Got it," the younger one replied, Hail assuming the one who answered was this 'Reed'. The fishbraided Reed left quickly and smoothly. The automatic door made a hissing sound as it closed, leaving the two strangers in silence.

Hail focused on the older man's face. The dark green mark under his left eye standing out under tired and scrunched up eyes, his high cheekbones and sunken face giving him an ancient but friendly look.

The man looked up to meet Hail's stare, holding it calmly, saying, "do you know where you are?"

Hail shook her head, a quizzical look on her face.

"I've not seen your race before...who might you be?"

"We are the Freal. My name is Dr. Halo, the head of what you humans call the 'medic' of this ship. You were lucky, young lady. If we had not seen your disaster, or of you, you would've been dead by the time another found you." His tone was lighthearted but had an underlying hint of seriousness. Hail tensed a bit.

"What exactly happened? My disaster?" Hail slowly asked, not sure if she wanted to actually hear the answer. She had mixed feelings about the Freal. Sure, they helped her, saved her life, but she had no idea what their background was or anything about them. This predicament made Hail feel on edge.

"We were making our usual round to get supplies from the Ghrid. Crystal fuel, Jorphine, meteor energy, the likes," Dr. Halo started to explain, "and we passed the Zara Headquarters."

"How long ago was this?" Hail quickly put in between the medics sentences.

"Three days before we found you."
Hail's eye turned wide. Three days before she got to the HQ, she saw the papers in the cavern research facility she found of her own people. Her hands gripped the white sheets tightly.

"Anyways," Dr. Halo continued in his deep airy voice, "we passed the Zara Headquarters, and there was a huge explosion near the top of the building, and multiple small ones along the rest. The initial explosion ripped the top 10 stories to pieces, clouds of smoke barley giving us any insight on what happened. From what we could infer, the explosions came from the inside of the building."

A knock interrupted Dr. Halo, Reed coming in with a small plate with very strange looking food. Hail took the plate with a small "thank you", and looked at what resembled a type of purple sandwich and what looked like a cross between green yellow casserole and mushroom soup. Reed was sent away again to let 'the others' know that Hail had risen.

Dr. Halo quickly gave Hail a rundown on what happened after. After the inital safety sweep from the ship, Dr. Halo himself and a medic crew of 12 trained Freal went in to look for survivers, carefully leaving out anything that could upset the female human.

They found her on the last floor sweep, in a very crucial state of unrest and agony. They brought her up into the ship and retrieved what was left of the evidence Hail carried. The ship of Freal became informed on what had happened, and deduced that she was the last to live, but she was dying. She needed a cure, and fast. Dr. Halo had noted the wrist band to be of interest, quickly found out there was another, the two bracelets together were the cure, and demanded the crew to find the other.

Hail looked at her left wrist, noticing the two identical bracelets for the first time. The Anti-Fallen Bracelets were high tech and well crafted, made to last for a very long time.
