Part One - Caverns
Steady footsteps. The sounds of hard breathing linger along the cave walls, echoing, giving the intense air an ominous feel.
Hail never expected to be lost down here, in the never ending caverns and halls that seemed to be naturally carved out of stone by water. Moss covered the crevasses and dripped of water in the stuffy moist air.
She splashed through puddles and stumbled along semi-dark passageways. Hail never dared to look back at what was chasing her, until she realized that she almost ran headfirst into moss covered wall of a dead end that appeared around one of the many corners she turned.
Hail turned back only to see the deformed monster already followed her into the hall, blocking her only means of escape. Her mind only barley registered the weapon in her left hand, a small floating ball of poison. It was one of the most toxic she could conjure, a small sample of what she could create.
In any story, the one in this position would be frightened out of commision, fainting only to be eaten or die trying to kill it. But as time wore on, on the job, Hail had seen worse as they say.
What is "it" you ask? A mass of skin-like gell sloppily glued together to form a blob on skinny long legs, and bony arms with large hands that scraped the ground. It didn't have a face, only and eye on where she could vaguely pinpoint was it's shoulder.
It made this awful putrid smell, and a ear splitting screech as she whipped the poison at it's eye. With the aid of the distraction, she ran on the left wall in an arc, over and past the monster that had blocked her way. It wasn't Hail's forte to kill. Only to stop or at least slow down.
Hail ran again, her forehead and golden hair slick with sweat and grime. She was practically caked in dirt. Her dark grey spandex suit didn't look in good shape either after the good two hours in the many sections of stone halls. Her leather bag pounded freely on her back as she sprinted down the caves once more.
After making sure it wasn't going to follow her, she stumbled to a stop, taking a well needed breather. It's been about three hours now. Hail wiped the sweat from her forehead with the back of her hand, and continued. She felt a change in the air, it became thinner, less stuffy, and there was light ahead. Eager to finish the mission and get out of the cave passages, she stepped into a huge cave. It was dome like, the lights source from cracks in the top of the fifty foot high ceiling. The structure looked unnatural. Built.
'Somethings wrong here...'
A deep rumble sounded behind Hail. She whipped around her head to see a smooth stone wall sliding down from the entrances top to bottom. It crashed down, making the ground shake and dust erupt into an angry cloud. Hail coughed, backing up to escape the dust.
The cloud cleared after a moment, sealing Hail inside the huge dome-like room.
'Terrific. I'm closed in. I smell a trap.'
Hail set her eyes to the ground after stepping on something soft.
She let out a yelp.
'A body!'
