Hunted

Deep into the thicket jungle of an African Rainforest, Natalie was venturing through the shrubs, still all by herself. She was still directing herself South, hoping to find safety. However, this part o the island was rather remote, which concerned Natalie, as this was dinosaur infested sanctuary and the lack of species only meant one thing, this had to be an apex predator territory. Natalie focused on leaving as soon as possible, but signs of invisible fences were not clear, only causing her to worry more. The fog surrounding the thrill to the already exciting tension, the sounds of crickets, tree frogs, and the rest are completely silent.

Natalie chopped down plants on her way, while also fanning the fog to better her vision. While still unclear, she noticed some plants did not resemble any of the African flora, they did resemble prehistoric specimens. She plucked one exemplary from the roots, analyzing it on her way. She truly recognized that piece of flora, she identified it as a genus of the late seed flower Ginkgo, a species from the very late Permian period. She theorized they wouldn't serve any herbivores, only perhaps for beauty and decorations.

The peace and calm that lasted for only a brief amount of time, was coming to an end. While continuing further into the track, Natalie didn't realize she was truly being stalked by the very creature she was speculating to encounter. She bowed down, planting the de-extinct flower back into the soil. She claps her hands together to wipe the dirt off, but as she is about to stand up, she hears movement coming from a tall fern nearby.

Avoiding eye contact with whatever was planning to attack Natalie, she slowly motions herself to safety, behind a thick tree. She covered her mouth, paying attention to the silent sounds around her. The creature emitted a low growl, almost resembling one of a big feline. As she was in Africa, she could only expect it to be an African Lion, but the biomes didn't match up. As the creature circled the area, it snapped twigs, its footsteps seemed to be heavier than a usual lion, while also taking note that its growl was fairly different as well, with a deeper intonation and a rasp.

Natalie was only waiting for the rest of the pride to join the individual, however, she took note that it was absolutely by itself, with no other member or a pack. Natalie took a small peek into a creature, finally identifying the specimen, it was a lion, but not an African Lion, Panthera Atrox, mostly known as the extent North American Lion, a creature belonging to the late Pleistocene Period.

It was then that she realized she was in grave peril, one bite of his creature could kill her in the blink of an eye. She had to take action soon, as staying there would not keep her alive. Natalie crouched down, keeping herself out of the lion's eyesight. She knew the creature wasn't laying its head down as it didn't spot her yet. The specimen didn't include a mane, implying that it was a female. The creature was colored like a Cougar, with white streaks and dark brown spots, its fangs were sharp, and it also had a missing tooth, possibly lost in a fight.

The unrelieved woman crawled further away from the carnivore until she reached a swamp-like pond. She figured that if she made her way all across the water it would take too much time, so she slowly dives into the pond avoiding making many attention-seeking sounds, however, as soon as she dips inside, it makes a sound of water splattering. The Lion had enhanced hearing as many felines do, the creature lurked toward the pond, taking a sip from the water.

The swamp was separated into tiny sections by a thin portion of ground placed in the middle of the water, Natalie slowly swam to this potential hiding spot, bypassing the feline. The felines' ears perk up spotting Natalie near the skinny island. The human wanders into the other side, with the creature clumsily landing on the portion of land.

Hidden, for now, Natalie looked around the area, searching for escape routes. Until finally she spots the perfect path leading into what seemed to be the perimeter fence. Following her professional training against animals, she presumed that it would be very likely that it would work on this big cat as well. The lion continued lurking across the swamp, using a fallen tree log as a bridge to go to the other side.

Natalie slowly comes out of the water, facing the lion directly. The Lion stared into her eyes fearlessly, with Natalie showing it respect as if she was trying to show it no sign of fear nor concern. She was slowly retreating coming closer to the exit than she expected, while she walked backward she accidentally snaps a twig by stepping on it. The sound triggers the feline, it sprints right towards Natalie. Luckily she manages to get to the other side of the fence before getting mauled by the feline, as it tried to jump on her, the invisible fence zaps it with unharming electricity, only drawing it away from her. Natalie relieved, stands upward and continues her journey across the jungle.
