Sisters

On the same day, back at the isolated manor, a young little girl skipped through the wide hallways of the house. The child was merely a teenager, wandered to the library as she whistled a catchy song from a movie she watched recently. She walked around the extensive shelves of multiple book choices, when she picked one and directed herself to a table, she placed a triceratops plushie on the table. The girl began to read the book, but as soon as she opened the first page it said.

Dedicated to the Jurassic Park Incident Victims.

The girl decided to ignore it, she wasn't even born when that happened why would she care about that. She continued to read but in the first few pages right under the sign that read Chapter 1, a drawing of a Pteradonodon was printed there. The child gasped having memories of the incident where she wasn't only born when it happened, but she witnessed it. She closed the book and put it back where she found it. The girl ran out of the room leaving her plush toy behind, she sprinted past her father's office, going into her sister's room, without knocking.

"MISSY." The girl cried, sitting on the bed with her heart nearly jumping out.

"Alice." Missy criticized her sister, giving her an annoyed look, "What did I tell you about knocking."

"Right, I'm sorry." Alice apologized, eyeing her sister as she shifted back to her wheelchair.

"So, are you gonna tell me why you came rushing to my room?" Missy questioned as she wheeled herself to the other side of the bed.

"Uhm." Alice stammered, sighing, "It was something related to-"

"Dinosaurs." Missy replied, knowing what her sister was saying, "Alice, we both know it's impossible to avoid them."

"I know." Alice replied, looking down.

Missy wheeled herself in front of her sister, "These creatures are no longer contained in an island anymore, they're free and others no going back, our dad is doing everything to protect us from the outside, by making us live in electric fences, there's affecting more than helping, am I right?"

Alice nodded her head, agreeing with her sister's statement, "Yes."

"But we also have no choice, because the world outside is dangerous." Missy said, rolling to the window, "How could a paraplegic woman and a young girl survive out there without the help of an adult man." She said sarcastically.

"No idea." Alice replied, assuming her sister was serious.

"We're not toddlers anymore, we don't need to be protected." Missy said proudly, "We survived that day for a reason, and that reason isn't this."

Alice then spoke, looking into Missy's eyes, "I miss interacting with others."

"So do I." Missy continued, "The only people I interact with are therapists or doctors, or dad's business buddies."

Alice fixed her position, nodding her head, "I can see."

"It's not our world anymore." Missy wheeled herself to her wardrobe, "It's theirs, we're just living in it."

"I understand." Alice smiled at her sister as she watched her put a cardigan on, "It's hard to let that sink in."

"Not if you were born four years ago." Missy then motioned to the door, "If you think about it, neither of us got the chance to live in a world without these creatures, and now children literally live with them."

"There are several people like us out there, right?" Alice questioned, following Missy through the door.

"Yes, probably." Missy stated, wheeling herself across the hallway, "All we gotta do is stick together, that's how we survive."

Alice nodded her head as if she understood the message, "You know the thing I miss the most about school?"

"What." Missy asked, giving her sister a genuine curious look.

"The food." Alice joked, letting out a healthy and lovable chuckle.

Her sister, wondered by it, gave her a big smile.

Alice knew its been a while since her sibling smiled like that, she was actually proud of her. As they motioned themselves to the elevator, Alice sighed.

Before the doors closed entirely, Missy gave a last glare at a photograph of her father. The doors opened now on the first floor. The sisters gathered around the kitchen, grabbing snacks and drinks.

"Girls!"

A voice called from afar. Startled by it, Alice dropped a bag of chips, "Father."

Missy did not respond.

"I have wonderful news." He clapped his hands together, with a suspicious grin.

"You're smiling?" Alica scoffed, "That's rare."

"Exactly, Alice." He then drummed on the counter, "We're going on a trip!" He exclaimed.

The two girls looked at each other, shrugging.

"Really?" A little bit excited by the news, the younger child asked, "Where?"

The father replied in an excited tone, something was obviously off, "Our brand new penthouse in San Diego!"

"San Diego?" Missy questioned, "On winter?"

"Yes, I know it sounds weird." He approached the girls, shoving them closer to him, "But, I just feel like we barely get to spend time with each other anymore, and I want to get our spark back."

"We never even had one." Missy replied under her breath.

"What was that, dear?" The man asked.

Missy lied, giving him a fake smile, "Oh, that was nothing."

"Girls, I promise it will be fun." He said patting Alice's shoulder, "It has a pool, a casino, even an entertainment complex, pack your bags, we're leaving tonight." He picked up his phone and walked to his room.
